I remember when Dez Bryant was in the draft and Jeff Ireland interviewed Dez Bryant and asked if his mom was a hooker. Jeff Ireland saw Dez Bryant as trouble and stayed clear from drafting him. Despite how talented Bryant maybe is he really worth the trouble? The guy has been in and out of trouble many times since joining the Cowboys with the latest being assaulting his own mother. How do you feel, I think Ireland came through for us on this one.

Police arrested Bryant on July 16, two days after his mother, Angela Bryant, called 911 to complain her son was assaulting her. Authorities said they found her with a swollen wrist and thumb and bruising on her upper arms. Angela Bryant allegedly told authorities Dez Bryant hit her in the face with his ball cap and tore her shirt.
On a 911 tape released by authorities, Angela Bryant is heard saying that she wanted to ''put an end to it.''
''I can't keep letting him do this,'' she said on the tape.
Angela Bryant has since submitted an affidavit asking prosecutors not to pursue the case. Family violence is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Yeah I think we lost interest in drafting a receiver that high once we brought in Marshall.

Having a correct opinion on a player eval is different than having no class or tact in how you deal with people.
He may have made the right assessment but his handling of it was an embarrassment to the franchise and fans. This new news doesn't justify his boorishness.
That said, some people vilified him for even supposing the thought. If people accused Jeff of being wrong to even consider De' possible off-field problems then they were too hard on Jeff in that specific regard and in that regard only.
Jeff got what he deserved for his approach though. Treat people rudely and you'll receive the same.Boik14 and Larry Little like this. -
Only the most staunch bias can find fault for Ireland's "whore question". How many actual positions does a pimp employ? Was she CFO? Also, he can't pretend to be offended when someone ASKED if his mom was a hooker if he also beats on her.Da 'Fins, LandShark13, Bumrush and 4 others like this. -
"What did your father do for a living?"
"He was a pimp."
"What about your mother?"
"She worked for my dad."
"So your mother was a prostitute?"
But if you want to take Bryant's story as 100% factual, go ahead... we know how big of a winner he is as a person.unifiedtheory, Da 'Fins, Bumrush and 6 others like this. -

I'm not saying they were all right. And I'm not saying they were all wrong. But the notion that this PLURALITY of people who don't wear aqua and orange on Sunday would all be guilty of having "the most staunch bias" is insane.
Guys, get over it. Yes, a lot of people that follow the Dolphins think the question was justified. The overwhelming majority of people that don't follow the Dolphins, don't. Take from that what you will.ssmiami, PhinsRock, Larry Little and 2 others like this. -
I guess it's eye of the beholder but I wouldn't dismiss it as speculation. I'd listen to an SI report with two sources "close to the situation" over Dez Bryant's story. -

Wasn't this a topic of discussion among teams at the combine?
Either way, I think it was prudent question. I would think such a thing would increase the odds of someone being violent toward women. -
He may be right about Dez, but he has no excuse for passing on Earl Thomas.

People take every stupid opportunity to call for someone else' head and make it a lot bigger than it is. You think anyone, certainly not NFL players or coaches) would have the balls to agree with what Ireland asked? Not in public!! -
Ireland is never right!!1!!11

Dez Bryant and Marshal should start a " I be a _____ club " people can fill in the blanks. Kid is a punk, always was a punk, always will be a punk. Don't care what the Mom was I applaud here for calling the cops when he smacked her with a hat, which I doubt, it was more likely his hand.
Anyone on this planet that strikes his Mom should have his dikkk cut off immedieately. I guess this goes really against abuse of women as our president and several high profile coaches and athletes have been saying on the airwaves. I would suspend his punk azzz for 6 games. If not, the whole thing being pushed on the airwaves about abusing women is a joke. ONE IS TOO MANY. -

Wait, if the Dad was the pimp, but Dez is smacking her, that mean she's working for him now?
What??? Just asking. -

Ireland was pretty clearly correct to question Bryant's relationship with his family and overall character. Extra points if he moved Bryant down or even off his draft board. People got their panties in a bunch over his question, but Bryant's reaction to a provocative or insulting question is something Ireland had reason to know.

Teacher to student "Would it help if we went over that together again?"
Teacher to student "Are you really so stupid you need me to explain it *again*??"
Not equal.
We don't know how Jeff said it. -

Still, you can't take your argument too far... If you do then democracy doesn't work.
Nor does the idea of multiple eyewitnesses seeing the same thing count in a court of law. -

I own a large buy here pay here car lot. I deal with the worst of the bunch all the time. I deal with employees that could easily steal from me. My customers are even more interesting. I'm armed at all times. Five grand in cash passes hand on any given day. On Fridays, twenty grand in cash on hand is not unheard of. If I interviewed someone who smarted off to me and said that their dad was a pimp, I wouldn't have even gotten to the whore comment. I would have told him to get the F out of my office. I treat my people very well and with a lot of respect. With that being said, if you can't take an interview seriously, you deserve everything you get. The little gang banger asked for it and Jeff gave it to him. We are in the big boy world now. Good for Ireland.

I don't give a rats *** what a bunch of overpaid, biased douchebags at ESPN or PFT say about the Dolphins. They have employed the same media tactics against this team for years now, before this entire Dez Bryant debacle.
Fact is, Dez Bryant, was, and still is, an immature brat who is headed down the TO route rapidly. Except he doesn't have the career or stats to back it up. Ireland was 100% correct to ask, and to insinuate after Dez admitted that his father was a pimp and that his mother worked for him.
The fact that he went to the media, rather than taking a moment of self reflection and acceptance of a past that he had no part in, is exactly why Ireland was smart not to draft him. Another Brandon Marshall if you ask me.
Dez will go through life blaming the messenger when the solution to the problem exists every single time he looks in the mirror. -

Although I do not condone what Ireland asked, and I think it defines him in a certain sense and not in a good way. But I wonder what exactly was Ireland's reasoning behind the decision to ask the question. If it was clearly out there that she indeed is/was a prostitute, then why ask the question? That is where I think, though I feel he did it in a classless manner, Ireland was looking for certain reaction(s) that would be indicative of what potential personality problems might be inherited should the team draft Dez. And it certainly seems now that in retrospect Ireland got the right info and made the right decision.
I don't want a player on our proud franchise that beats his mother! I mean that so strongly I would feel no different if the guy caught 40 touchdowns in a season for us. There has to be a point or line over which a franchise must not cross lest they lose all respect from EVERY NFL fan that is not a Dolfan. Frankly by putting players on their team such as PacMan Jones and Dez Bryant, I think the once proud franchise that was the Dallas Cowboys (and I was a lifetime fan until moving to West Palm Beach in 2001), has shown America that all they are about is winning at any cost. Cowboys long time HOF HC Tom Landry would not have had Dez Bryant on his squad, no way, no how.
And honestly if you look around the league, if the Cowboys are still "America's Team" then the entire NFL fan base has taken their support to an entirely new low. I also think NFL fans today would be more likely to name the Steelers, Patriots, Giants or Packers as "America's Team" than the Cowboys. I know I do not any longer see them as America's Team, and don't see that turning around as long as Jerry Jones is the owner.
I am disgusted by the way Ireland handled the issue, but I give him credit for making certain we didn't draft a motherbeater and character that I suspect fits right in the Pacman Jones mold.Bpk likes this. -
