Thats why Dan was the best pure passer this game had ever seen until Peyton came along....
Call me a homer but I have ONE game to win I take Manning/Marino no question.Bpk, HULKFish and Crappy Tipper like this. -

the velocity he had on that ball he threw...jeez.
-
man, just wow. thats all i can say

Ahh...the memories. I could watch clips of Marino all day. He could do things with a football is his hand that few mere mortals could. Both of those throws in the OP's clip were perfectly thrown balls. The first one with a guy right in his face.
The quick release is the thing that separates him from so many IMO. That's what burned so many DB's, because from the instant he decided where he was throwing the ball, to the instant it left his hand, and you add the incredible velocity he possessed, and DB's simply did not have time to react. The best pure passer ever? Yeah, I think so.
Game on the line, down by a score, last minute and change left to play, there's only one guy I want with the ball in his hand. And, he wore #13 for the Miami Dolphins from '83 to '99.

I've probably said it 100 times in these forums, but I have dreams that Dan Marino is still the QB of the Dolphins. Then I wake up and cry. If Henne can develop into half the QB Marino was, we'll be in good shape.

Awesome. Dan the Man with the plan. Gotta love the nod at the end :D
-
Man, that stuff never gets old!
-
Marino didn't throw ducks, there was velocity from the time he let go of the ball until the ball hit the receivers hands. He was the best pure passer and he made mediocre receivers look like All Pros.

Dan took so much sh*t at times... that Colts game is one of my favorites and definitely the best of his final year. The media getting down on him, Jimmy Johnson criticizing him, and how does Dan respond? Come from behind victory, 400 yards with most coming in the last 20 minutes! Down by two touchdowns, starting to look like old news next to young Peyton Manning's offense? 58 yards in two plays to Tony Martin! Bam! Beautiful TD pass on the money! The more people got on Dan's case, the more he turned around the next Sunday and shoved it straight up their asses, I loved it!
He was the best ever... best pure passer, best everything, and he played like he could do anything. He wasn't perfect but his confidence and intense leadership I think made a lot of things possible. Chad Henne: take note.Onehondo likes this. -
It hurt Dan's game when JJ took away his ability to audibilize at the line of scrimage. That was one of Dan's true strengths IMO. Marino was like a true artist with paint and canvas and his passes were his brush strokes.

Marinos throws almost seemed to defy the laws of physics.....Just watch that first throw to Martin,...its like gravity has no effect on the ball. It almost hangs there, traveling in a straight line, all the way to the numbers. Ya just dont see passes like that from anybody, at least as consistantly as you saw it from Marino....

And then the football gods gave us Jay Fiedler's arm to balance it out.

Gotta agree with gunn!!...I really feel fortunate to have been able to watch Marino growing up. He came in to the league when I was in 5th grade, and thats about the same time I started to get into football. Although I knew Marino was something great, I still think I took it for granted...It wasnt until he left, that I truly realized just how great he was.....and not to take away from Farve, Manning, or Brady....they are all special and great QBs in their own right, but there was just something about Marino that kids today are missing out on. I mean, hes the only QB who could throw an incomplete pass and have it be a thing of beauty!! LOL!!....How he walked away from the game without a ring is beyond me,....If we were to go back to the 1985 season, I would have thought my odds of winning the lottory would have been much greater than Dan playing 17 seasons in the NFL, and NOT getting one SB ring......

I think that is exactly why we haven't been able to 'replace' him, at least as fans. The guy carried this team on his back for nearly his whole career. Only a couple of QBs can make that claim....Elway, Peyton, Unitas, Favre and Danny...that's about it...
-
I'm sorry, but I don't see guys whipping that ball out there like that nowadays. Marino put some revolutions on the ball when he threw it. Guys have big arms today, but they don't seem to put the pure zip some of the guys like Elways, Kellys and Marinos could.
-
Check it out guys, here's too making new memories.

Yeah, I feel sorry for the Colts fans...in a few years, they'll be missing Peyton like we miss Danny....
-
Yep!! When Marino, Kelly and Elway came along, the NFL changed big time!!......Just as it did as they faded away....
I still love and enjoy NFL football,....just not like I did when these guys were around. What an era of football!! -

That Play Action was filthy.
It's not just the throw, but the read, the chemistry, the awareness of the pressure, the timing, the play action, the over the LB's and under the safety throw, hit Martin in stride, right between the numbers.
Great play. -
A good way to look at it, Miami had a few rough seasons in the late 80's with Dan and Shula. I remember the frustrations and the disappointment I felt back then, we all do.....But looking back now, would you rather relive 3 of marinos and shulas worst years, or 3 of Feidlers and JJ/ Wanstadts best years?
