Great move. If the Dolphins land him I would almost guarantee that LB won't be picked in the first 1-3 rounds unless a Tunsil scenario happens again with one of the top LB'ers.

I'd be all over this. I wanted Hightower and I think Timmons is overrated and on the downside, but him, Timmons, Alonso, and keep around Misi as insurance and we have greatly improved our LB corps and taking away another position we can target early in the draft.

Id assume we go DE in the first round and guard in the second round then, but I could also see us going corner early again. People seem to have a lot more confidence in the dolphins secondary than I ever would. Maxwell was good last year but he wasnt an elite corner and is a year removed from an awful year, Lippett showed flashes but also got abused at times, and Howard hasnt done a thing yet. I would love another veteran CB before I thought our secondary was anything other than 1 injury away from being trash. I also wouldnt rule out going TE in the first round if Howard or Njoku are still available, even if we have Fasano and Thomas. We have been in desperate need of a game changing freak-like receiving TE for years now and if they are available I could see us going BPA and having a huge quality depth at TE for next year. But all in all if we sign brown id say we are 80% likely to draft a DE.

 

I have a feeling signing Zach Brown would spell the end of Misi, but I'm not sure of the financial implications at this point in the league year.

 

Not if he takes a pay cut which is what the dolphins have been floating.

I would think so too, but id try to get him to take a pay cut and have him be our 4th LB. He is OK when he is healthy, granted he has followed in the long line of dolphins LB's who specialize at never making an impact play, but as a depth LB he is a very quality player, and we really need to stop being completely caught off guard when a LB gets hurt, because some of the names who have started games at LB for us due to terrible depth have been kind of pathetic. As a guy who can step in if a guy goes down, he is a great option to have.

I wonder what Zach will be making this year, last year he signed a 1 year contract to be a back up for 1.25 mil, and Tenn who drafted him, just let him walk at that price, but after making the PB, how much will he be drawing now?

 

His market value is 4.5 mil per year. I imagine he will get something like a 4 year 20 mil type deal.

Also squashes all those premature mocks, and talk of reaching for a LB at 22...
so much DL, DB talent to be had.

 

Hassan Reddick or Zach Cunningham at 22 is not a reach. Though I agree signing brown is a good Idea.

Out of curiosity, how do you arrive at that number, as Hightower just signed for about 9 mil per, with 17 fully guaranteed.

It compares his stats and salaries of comparable linebackers. Brown had a great season last year but before that his numbers were nothing special so that drives down his market vakue compared to a guy like Hightower who has been more consistent.

Well, Stills has only 1 big year and now he's the 20th highest paid WR making 8 mil per, so it's fine for spotrac to make a guess, but it all comes down to what teams are willing to pay him, I think it may be closer to 7 mil.

 

Yes spotrac calculates his fair value based on stats but I am sure when multiple teams are competing for his services one of them will be willing to pay more than that. I would sign him as long as it stays below 8 mil per.

Yeah I would agree with that, but I would like the contract to be like 9 mil guaranteed, 4 mil signing bonus and fully guaranteed 5 mil in 17, or something similar, so we could walk away next year if it doesn't pan out.

If he is still unsigned it's because nobody wanted to pay him a lot of money. I think he might go north of 5millions per year, maybe reach 6 but not more. It's also to be seen how long the deal is and how much real money is involved (guarantees, if the contract is backloaded ecc.)

Yes he did have a decent year, but that's not a "get paid" year, because he only had 3 TDs.

This is one of the reasons I wouldn't have given him 8 mil per, because I think he's a feast or famine WR, with Stills, too much depends on everyone else, and you can't lean/depend on Stills.

 

I heard he was here to change agents. Hopefully it's an agent with Dolphin ties and he stays. Not sure how true it is.

 

The deal Oakland offered him was, and I quote, "downright disrespectful". I'm going to assume we offered him a deal, and he's taking it back to Buffalo to see if they match or exceed it.

Reports are that the dolphins oferred around 3 to 4 million per on a short term contract and Brown wants 5 to 6 m per on a longer term deal. Seriously what the f? Pay the man his 6m and we will be set at LB.

We are paying a past his prime timmons 6m per year yet we are not willing to pay a 27 year old in his prime pro bowl linebacker who outplayed timmons last year the same amount?

We just gave kiko a 4 year 7.2m per extension and kiko has never in his career played as well as brown did last year.

I would make that deal in a heartbeat we have more money now with the misi restructuring get his but signed and in aqua already.

Brown visited with three NFL teams and no one offered more. If it was just the Dolphins ok, but three teams on the same page, maybe they know something we dont about the player

I think teams want to see more than a one year wonder because he was pretty average before last year. Just the same...we could use a pretty average player at LB right now.

 

Yes, I believe that is the case, people are concerned he just uped his play in a contract year, but I believe he is well worth the risk if not just for his coverage ability. Even when he wasn't producing big numbers his first few years he was always great in coverage. He is 6'1 244lbs and runs a 4.5 40. You don't find those types of athletes who can cover at the linebacker position everyday and we desperately need good coverage linebackers so we don't keep getting killed by TEs every year.

And frankly I don't think he is asking for much. If we are willing to pay Kiko 7.2m per year after only one year of ok play we should be willing to pay brown 6m after one year of pro bowl caliber play.

For the life of me, I don't understand what all our fans are up in arms about with Brown. I don't want anything to do with Brown and his money demands

 

Why exactly don't you want anything to do with a pro bowl linebacker who was second in the league in tackles last year with 149? A linebacker who is 6'1 244lb with 4.50 speed and can cover TEs better than anybody we have on the team?

Aside from the fact that he is only asking for 5 or 6 million per year which is less than or equal to what we are paying kiko and timmons, both of whom brown outplayed last year?

He is only asking for 5 mil a year yet every team he has visited, he has been far apart money wise. I highly doubt that is true.

I am sorry I don't trust a free ranging LB that makes tackles 5 yards down the field and has never even been average before this past year. During a one year prove it deal. Sounds like a bust ready to happen.
