im sure ya'll have talked about this but i don't see anything about it on the first page. i knew we were the 4th best defense in the NFL but i just learned that our pass defense is 5th best as well. not sure where our run defense is but i'm sure its on the rise after playing the raiders who were the 2nd best rushing team and we held to to 16 yards and after we played the brown and held peyton hillis to somewhere around 50 yards. if we could just put up more points on offense we would be hard to beat. all this proves one thing. that saying about defense wins games is full of crap! lol
I hate to be the grammar police but this thread title is like nails down a chalkboard for me. But yeah, just more proof that Henning has got to go.
we've got to tighten a few bolts on D, but mostly as everyone is saying -- jettison Henning, and add a playmaker or 2 on O and we will be just fine. we need a little innovation on O .... a little more speed, and a lot of playmaking ... our O has to learn to dictate scheme and coverage to the D -- something we just don't do right now ... and that isn't Henne, it's our roster and OC ....
We're also 2nd best in "least amount of turnovers created" on defense. This is one to be truly proud of.
Takeaways, 3rd down %, points allowed, sacks/pressures, YPA, YPC, W-L record, those are stats that matter.
i just heard that we were in the top 5 in total defense and pass defense. i knew we were 4th in total defense, since i heard we were top 5 in total defense and pass defense i assumed we were 5th in pass defense. 4th is even better! i just wonder why they didn't say we were in the top 4 in total defense and pass defense. p.s. i can care less what you think about the thread title.
Last two games vs the run: McFadden was held to 3 yds rushing Hillis was held to under 50 or 40 yds rushing.
Definitely more........ but we're bad when it comes to forced fumbles. Our (3) are 2nd to last in the NFL. I guess you could attribute much of that to youth and inexperience (at least I hope).
The Raiders went out the next week and ran for 250 yds at San Diego, at the time, they were the number #1 defense in the league yardage wise. Stats are hard to make sense of sometimes.
I attribute it to lack of gang tackling ans stripping. Watch the Bears if you can today, they are masters at getting the ball out. Just about every tackle attempt is accompanied by a strip attempt, they force more turnovers than any team in the league. I hope we start to incorporate that into our players next year. Most of our guys are satisfied with just getting guys on the ground, and it shows.
We do have 4 games in a row of allowing 17 or less points. Outside of our Special Teams fiasco vs NE & NY, we would be top 5 in scoring D IMO. If we also take advantage of our INT opportunities, then we're top 3 in Scoring D.
I think we're also the 2nd least penalized team in the NFL. Thats one of the positive things Sparano brings to this team.. discipline.
Oh yeah. Big Paul is due for a big extension, Wake as well. BTW McFadden just went 51 yds for his 2nd TD vs Jacksonville. Our run defense at Oakland is looking better and better.
Not today. You can actually field a young defense that can change football games. I have been told otherwise. You know what I mean folks
