Beating up on the bottom of the league with wins over the Raiders, Jets, Rams and Bengals is proving now to be more smoke and mirrors than indication of a playoff caliber team. I still believe in Joe Philbin and I still believe in Ryan Tannehill but it's time to accept we're not a good team. This doesn't mean that we're a terrible team or that the sky is falling but it means we have some unmistakable issues that have and continue to plague this team. Reggie Bush isn't running well, Jake Long isn't blocking well, we still don't have a receiver that defense have to fear, Sean Smith is playing better than year's past but the secondary still isn't good enough, we have no pass rush presence outside of Cam Wake and we don't have any playmakers at LB. We can't make plays in key moments and we can't stop other teams from making plays in key moments. The difference between a good team and an average team in the NFL is a few plays a game and we more often than not are not making those plays. Whether it be a Reggie Bush fumble after a big run or a Karlos Dansby not making an interception or failing to capitalize on a Jake Locker mistake and allowing him to run 20 yards after falling down on the play action fake these are the plays that kill us. And those examples just come from the first half of today's game. The good teams make those plays and we consistently don't. Until a time when that changes we can suspend the playoff talk.
There has been a culture of losing that has been cultivated in Miami since the 62-7 Jaguars game in 1999. The fans don't show up to games and the players don't play hard. People talk about learning to win, but it just seems the Dolphins can't forget how to lose. At least we have a bunch of high draft picks. This upcoming draft will go a long way in building the future of this team. Just wish we weren't saying that same thing year after year after year.

The players play hard.

The Dolphins have only beaten one winning team outside the AFC East since 2006. (Packers 2010) That's not changing in 2012. And that is one pathetic stat.
But we did help make the Saints & Falcons into annual Super Bowl contenders by giftwrapping them MVP caliber QBs! D'oh.oakelmpine and Da 'Fins like this. -
I don't know why everyone is so surprised. Even when we were winning, we kept seeing flashes of manure. In the overtime loses, the close wins, every game really, this team kept showing us that they were capable of being trash.
There's really no surprise they are showing who they really are.Aquafin likes this. -
I've been the most optimistic defender in here this year, but I have now given up on the season. Our defense has lost it's heart. Our safeties are nowhere to be seen. s Smith has really regressed.
....and that blown call on the Harper fumble takes the icing on the F#%#n cake

The pass defense has been crap all year long. Why that's surprising is beyond me..
I just don't want Tannehill to get hurt. -

Why didn't we hear that they filmed an episode of The Walking Dead using Dolphins players? Props to AMC for putting it on in the daytime though, very bold move by them. I can't believe Michonne and Rick haven't been in this episode though.

There's a difference between playing poorly and not trying. -
we were never this bad under Dave Wannstedt sure his picks suck but his coaching has been better then any of the coaches that follewed.
I have never liked Jeff Ireland and seeing how quickly other teams have rebounded it should tell all of us that we are stuck in a big rut and it should be put on Irelands empty head . -
The defense is over rated. The offense is impotent. Weak.
-
Reggie bush made up for some deficiencies early on and has since crippled us on offense. Rookie qbs can't be put in the spots tannehill is put in.

This was pathetic, now we have a short week before playing Buffalo. I predict another ugly loss on our way to a four game losing streak

I am still amazed at how so many fans on here were talking so big about this team when we were 4-3 and had beaten below mediocre competition.
I still think Philbin has some potential but the talent has to be there. And, Ireland has to go. At the very least we will have higher picks in each round.
The reality is, 3 turnovers in the 1st half changed the game. Locker was 4-14 for 37 yards in the 1st half! But, the big lead gave their team confidence. Turnovers are just huge.
What is disturbing is that Long and other guys who are supposed to be part of the foundation of the team are as bad as anyone. That is what is so deflating because if you have to rebuild at LT - when you also have major holes at WR, DB, need for a pass rusher as well ... it is too much to ask.
Maybe we can get a quality up and coming personnel guy to take over at GM. -
I predict this team will go no better than 6-10 this season. At least they will get another top ten draft pick. I just pray that Ireland isn't the GM making that selection for the Dolphins in the 2013 draft. -

But, there are some real positives we can point to with Ireland's hand:
* At least we got two worthless seasons out of Brandon Marshall in exchange for two 2nd round picks.
* Then we were able to trade up and get Daniel Thomas ... and in giving up other picks to get into the 2nd round, we were also able to bypass Randall Cobb (who needs WR's?) and also get Thomas over DeMarco Murray (Whew! Good thing we missed him!).
* And think of how much we got out of Edmond Gates when we might have had to put up with a kid like Jacquizz Rodgers as a 3rd down back?

Ireland will still be here come draft day. I truly believe Ross will give him this one last chance.
Don't get me wrong I want him gone, but I believe Ross will let him have one more chance to turn it around. -
But I hope I am wrong. -

I think we're gonna need a real good back, someone that can do it all in a traditional sense, with some speed..someone like Stephan Taylor would be nice. -
I still don't, and probably never will, believe that Jeff Ireland is as bad as this forum has made him out to be over the years. But I agree, he's had his opportunity and I think it's time the organization pursues other options. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised nor overly upset to see him get one more year to work with Philbin and get him the players he wants. The issue with Ireland hasn't been him making terrible picks, it's been him taking too conservative an approach to the draft. He seems unwilling to roll the dice. He likes players with high floors and sometimes those guys have lower ceilings. When you make safe low-risk picks in the draft you end up with a bunch of solid yet unspectacular guys and that nets you an average football team. And that's what our team has been. We haven't been 2 or 4 win teams. We win 6 or 7 games and end up middle of the pack. At some point the organization has to gamble on bringing in some playmakers and I don't know if Ireland will ever be that guy.

There's certainly some merit to the idea that this isn't a playoff team.
It's hard for that not to be buried by how ridiculous some of these posts are. You're crawling out from under a rock week 10 of the NFL season after being largely and rightfully silent, and expect to be taken even halfway seriously? Yeah, ok.GMJohnson likes this. -

We can feel free to revisit any of that stuff if you'd like, but given the fact that you're now looking at decisions like Reshad Jones, Koa Misi, Chris Clemons, Nolan Carroll, Mike Pouncey, Kevin Burnett, Brian Hartline in a much more favorable light and have what looks like a promising rookie quarterback, it's probably not going to look particularly favorable for you. -
