I was looking at our schedule, and one way we could allow the opposing teams to continue drives, even if we stop the run, is through the nickel corner spot. Bobby McCain is very unsteady and Tank is a rookie. I just don't think Miami should be satisfied with this spot. Revis should be on line 1. Just a brief look at potential slot WRs we have to cover:
1. Adam Humphries
2. Dontrelle Inman
3. Robby Anderson
4. Brandon Coleman
5. Richard Matthews
6. Taylor Gabriel
7.edelman/Amendola
8. Tyreek Hill
I'm sure Im missing some, but this could be an issues this season

The fact that we are not the only team that has concerns about our defensive backfield, yet he remains unsigned. Given his reputation and previous demonstrated skill set; something tells me the league does not feel he is worth a spot at this time.

How could anyone be happy with Nickleback. There is actually a police department in Canada, Nova Scotia I think it was that makes people they pick up for DUI listen to Nickleback in the back of the squad car on the way to Jail. Everybody thinks Canadians are nice, I married one so let me tell ya, it's a front.

Oh, and the yet stink on Revis is so thick there is no way he could be tolerated in the locker room so give it up already, Revis Island is sinking due to climate change. He got old, and the tide don't stop risin'. He was good, but Woodson he ain't.

Legit concern about the slot receivers. I think our scheme is going to rely more on safeties and LBs to cover those routes and we actually have some versatile depth to come in nickel packages. Misi, Michael Thomas, Aiken. for example. I could see three S on the field with our personnel also. Jones, Abdul and Allen maybe.

I'm not as down on McCain as some. I agree there were times last year that he wasn't great, but a lot of factors go in to that. If Kwon and Timmons can help us play the run better. That is going to help everyone on the defense. Our DBs are working hard and improving. BM can too.

Tramaine Brock might have a pending suspension but he is far and away the best option at slot CB. He is as solid as they come in coverage and is also excellent in run support. He came up as a FS. He is also just 28 years old. He is in his prime.
Our veteran DB's could be a good influence on him. He would instantly give us a top secondary on paper, instead of going into the season with doubts. -

I brought this up a couple months ago but Armando wrote an article the other day about Revis..
makes too much sense to me.

I can't imagine Revis being a good deal for us. He's always moved around for money. We're not paying Revis money for a nickelback.

I think it is the first time he has had an issue while in the NFL. He did drop out of the U of MN because he failed to qualify academically for his senior year. Talented guy to take a flier on IMO, but I like the case for building a smarter football team as well. If he has realized he needs to change his ways, I'm all for second chances, however, if he handles this adversity badly, I wouldn't want him around. -
I legit don't see the major problem with our secondary. Guess I'm, the only one.

unmotivated?..yes..loss of athleticism...not imo...remotivated to prove something, to rebuild the rep on the way out.? absolutely. -
Our secondary is already in far better shape than last year. I fully expect Lippett to make another step up this year like he did last year. Maxwell, Howard are solid and Howard is looking better than that. McCain might get a little shaky at times but the idea of bringing Revis in is crazy to me. I mean did any of you guys watch him play last year? He was awful and the only thing left to him that was Revis Island is his name. On top of that he has always been a me first player as evidenced by his consistent contract holdouts nearly every year he was in his prime with the Jets.
Not just no, HELL NO!Puka-head likes this. -
Skillsets? McCain and Tank should do just fine.Tin Indian likes this. -
I'm sure you feel the same here Fin, I'm trying to win a championship, and adding revis, if he's in this for the right reasons, is an incredible fit for our situation..
btw, as long as the contract were to fit, why would anyone be against is what im puzzled about..lol.. -
You're not understanding my point.
There are question marks. However, question marks aren't the same thing as major problems. Major problems would be similar to the interior of our line, for example. Thill's knee, is a question mark.
If question marks were the same thing as major problems then every team has units that are either major problems or good. -

Reevis ranked just three spots ahead of Bobby McCain last year, according to PFF.
Brock is by far the better player and is in his prime at 28 years old. Reevis is just going to be somebody's egregious waste of money. -

Seriously, McCain isn't terrible and I think we might see a little Tank in there too.Redwine4all and Puka-head like this. -

I think this may be one of those rare threads where the entire board is in agreement on the salient point of discussion.
Nickleback truly does suck! Now there may be some legitimate discussion as to whether it is Nickleback or The Bieber that Canadians owe reparations to the world for inflicting upon us, but Dirty said we were focusing on Nickleback so... -
I like Nickelback. Remind Me, Rockstar and Photograph were great songs. Bieber has been hot lately with Despacito and I am the One

Would he be a value to our roster? Yes. Is he worth $10M+? Hell to the no. That's why he's still a free agent.Redwine4all likes this. -

Bookmark this so you can all ridicule me later. I really see the chance for this team to do something a little different this year. I'm not one of the talented individuals on this board who can post highlights and what not, But I was born the same day this team was and have been playing/watching/coaching football my whole life. So what the flip do I know but:
We were better than average borderline pretty good against the pass last year. With 2nd 3rd string getting major snaps. Starters are back and healthy and our depth is experienced and talented.
We sucked vs the run last year, couldn't tackle Grandma after she got past the line. Could NOT cover a TE between the hash marks, Could NOT! The biggest improvement to the team this year was up the middle of the Defense. Timmons, The Chef, McDonald. Nate Allen, Misi, Hewitt . Qdus and Jones getting fit and now the middle is THICK! Don't forget Thomas
So here's where it gets weird, what if, instead of the extra CB for the slot we had the extra safety? With the current trend to have "hybrid" D's 3-4 sometimes 4-3 others, I saw a few 2-5 and 5-2 allignments last year, especially vs the pasties we could see some interesting line ups with our personnel. Again, I'm not anybodies expert so...
Try something Like this.
3x3 and 2 wide:
First three: Wake, Suh, Harris/Branch/?
2nd three: The Kwon, Kiko, Timmons
3rd Three: Michael Thomas, Bad MalaFala Jones, Qdeuce/Allen
Howard, Maxwell, Tankersley, McCain, Lippett outside.
Aiken, McDonald in the 2nd half of the year.
After thinking that all out I actually feel pretty good about the D, still gotta play, but it looks like leadership saw, learned, and adapted to overcome! OORAH! -
