We have come close, oh sooo close. However, we do not have one of those "quality wins." It would take one in the playoffs to do this.
Curious Madd Matt, are you related to Killerphins? There is something to be said for beating the teams you should beat, now is the time of year when we have to beat teams we shouldn't be able to beat as well as teams that are our equals.
What gets me is the idea that "well the Jets suck now so that win should be discounted". Imho that shows a pecuilar lack of understanding of what Momentum means in football, the Jests were 3-1 on MNF, they had just played the Saints tough and save for Nacho Sanchez's screwups that led to 14 pts, the Jests would have won that game. Heading into that MNF game, the Jests had momentum and that is hard to overcome.
Since the Pats are the measuring stick here are their wins; Buffalo x 1, Jets x 1, Baltimore, Tennessee, Tampa, Miami, Atlanta.
I don't know what your criteria is for a "quality win", but IMO last week's win against the Pats qualifies as a quality win.
Unfortunately, I don't feel either us or the Pats have beaten a good team yet. We will have to see how the season plays out. Could be interesting.
Yes exactly that was a quality win. Also I don't know but to me the Panthers win was a quality win also,at the time they were fighting to stay in the playoff race also and gave us a pretty good game especially near the end.
They beat the Falcons one and have not played Buffalo twice yet. I do not think that changes much however.
Any win in the NFL is a good win. I think we all get caught up in qualifiers like is that team a good team or a bad team, but here is the thing, literally any Sunday any team can win (ask the Steelers). So I think we need to throw out crap like 'oh woe are we, we haven't beaten anyone good' and be thankful that we have six wins and regardless who we have beat we are in the playoff picture. Lets just enjoy the ride, shall we?
After thinking this over at length, you make VERY good points. We have played a brutal schedule, and I agree that any win is a good win!!!!
To be fair I think you have to consider how competitive we were against some of the best teams in the league. I thought those losses against the Colts and the Saints were more impressive than a couple of our wins.
colts game the defensive performance was pathetic i don't call it impressive saints game we folded in the second half could have won both of those games they call them losses for a reason
Eh...to be honest, I think the fact that no one else has beaten those two either, says more about how good they are and less about how unimpressive we've been.
And if we overlook Jacksonville we'll jinx the game! <insert sarcasm here> But in all seriousness the Jets are not a bad team and we beat them twice. We've beat as many quality opponents as the Pats have.
What's a "good team"? The steelers are on a 5 game losing streak. The raiders are on a 3 game winning streak. The saints and colts are, of course, undefeated. The vikings are a high profile team. Or you could go statistically.. the packers are the best... at getting aaron rodgers sacked. yet they still have 8 wins and are pushing for a playoff spot. are they a good team or are they a bad team because they let up so many sacks? bottom line for me like greyson said is your record says what you are. right now we're a team in the middle, but we DO have an identity. and we kept some of those very high profile teams on the ropes for a long time. which says a lot to me about the character of this team moving forward. like sebo said - let's just enjoy the ride, shall we?
I agree that we havent beaten a good team yet but at the same time I only believe there are 5 good teams in the entire NFL right now. Parity has destroyed the level of play. The only teams I would consider good are the Colts, Saints, Vikings, Bengals and Chargers. There are a few borderline good teams: Cowboys, Eagles, Packers, Broncos, Patriots, Dolphins, Cardinals but eacvh have enough holes that in earlier times they would be considered average at best
Not a very quality post, even for a beginner there Matt...tell us, how you came to this conclusion and what you expect or something else substantive. The way it's posted, you being a newbie...you sound like a jests fan to me...
why is it not a quality post it is ridiculous that someone is called a jets fan for speaking the truth we havent beat a quality opponent this season everyone seems to take the fact that we were partially competitive with the two undefeated teams as a win that is also ridiculous we lost to those teams does everyone have to see things as a homer to be a fan of the Dolphins
I initially disagreed with the OP, but having looked back on our season, only regret having read it. Don't look back. Ignorance is bliss
Completely and totally uncalled for brother Being a "Longtimer" here, it is up to you to help this situation. If you disagree with him, please feel free to add "Substance" to stimulate the post, not gas to fuel the flame
Yeah, that's me, a beginning newbie jests fan. I'm gonna have to send you a PM, for approval, on all my threads. I'll be doing that when I see my Christmas ham flying over South Beach. Make sure to be watching, and waiting for that.
I agree it was ridiculous......almost as ridiculous as insinuating that I must be a homer because I don't agree with your assessment. Ask around, "homer" I'm not Nobody said those losses were "wins" as you exaggerated.......we were merely stating that if you are looking for measuring sticks, those losses showed that we could be competitive against the best. We're a young, mistake prone but dangerous team....we've lost key starters but have scratched to stay alive. Not too shabby for a team that was never supposed to be in the hunt, anyway, given our schedule.
That's when the naysayers, the "I just tell it like I see it", the accussed pessimists come out of the woodwork to point out to the so called homers that they're right..... e gads
I fixed it but it doesn't change the point. I will strive to have the 72 season of posting going forward .
problem is ... if you take the stand that we haven't beaten anyone yet ... look at rest of our schedule ..... what that would say to me is that we wouldn't have beaten anyone all year -- and still ended up with a 10-6 record. at the end of the day ... all of our 'victories' would have come against 9-7 or less teams ... outside of NE likely at 10-6. you can only play the schedule ... and if you win your games, that's all that matters. i look at it this way .... we played quality teams, lost, learned and got better from it -- even with our glaring deficiencies.
This season and last has given me more hope than I've had in a long time. I always expect us to win, no matter who we play, or what records or stats say. A win is a win. I don't care how we get it, it's a win. And I love every one. This is a scrappy bunch of players and I'm proud of what they and Tony have done. Get mad if you want, but they do remind me of the old 70's teams. They play more blood and guts football than a lot of the teams they've fielded in Miami in that past several years. And this team never gives up.
I guess one can say "we haven't beaten anybody" if you're talking college, but this is the NFL. Anything can happen on any given Sunday. If we happen to beat the Steelers week 17, would you say that win did not qualify as a quality win because they'd lost to the three worst teams outside of Tampa Bay? Either way, it's ridiculous to think that way. You can only play the teams on your schedule, and yes, IND and NO barely eeked out of those games here. We can say that for 6 quarters, the two unbeatens were beaten by this same Dolphins team.
