While not the popular opinion, part of me really feels that way too. He's good at doing what he does though, and thats minimizing mistakes. That was so key for us last year in helping us win those close games. Where I think youre on to something is when you look at the close games he really helped us win last year when we had a much easier schedule, he was a bigtime asset. This year, were in those close games again, Pennington is trying to play safe, as he does so well, and I just don't think it's going to work well for us against the tougher teams we're going to face this year. I feel at times he is holding the offense back by not taking some chances, but he's not taking those chances because with his "lack of arm strength" he's not confident that the gamble will pay off.

Ideal situation is that Henne is ready. Not to come in and start slinging the ball all over the field, but to be able to come in, play that smart brand of football that pennington has hopefully taught him, and take some chances, that pay off and result in big plays. Thats what the good QB's do, they take those chances, throw into double coverage, but do so because they know, and have the confidence in their arm, their accuracy, and their receivers to make those plays. I think you're right in we'll never see that with Pennington this year, I just dont know if Henne is ready for that yet.

 

I say stick Henne in next week and start developing him. He ain't gonna learn anymore holding a clipboard. Start him the next few weeks and if he doesn't work out, try Pat White.

We owe our 3rd down conversion rate to Penny. He made the plays when he had to. Not his fault Ginn sucks.

 

Ginn is a *****, but we also need someone that can throw the ball past 10 yards.

 

We played better now because Pennington started to find Ginn, which now we know Ginn can make plays. He made clutch plays depsite the drop.Say what you want about the drop but that game should not have come down to that one play.

 

Let Penny play til week 8.

Realistically we're playing nothing but playoff contenders (super bowl contenders even with SD, NO). The record isn't gonna look pretty so we might as well let Penny take those losses.

 

I see your point. I just dont think its time yet. I think Pennington, as much as he "may" be holding us back, I think he still might give us the best chance to win. You're right, we won't know until we try, but I think before we try Henne, if we do, it should be once things get desparate around here. We're only 0-2. We were last year too, and ended up 11-5 winning the division... I see your point, Im just not sure its time yet... yet being the key.

 

Without the wildcat propping up this offense, we lose BIG tonight. If we're to continue trying to win games with him, we need more wildcat and less Pennington.

Ted Ginn didn't help when he dropped that ball but Penny just doesn't strike fear in anyone. Nor should he...

i think Penny deserves to play into the middle/end of the season this year, but if we are truly out of contention, its definitely time for Henne

yea he did and that has alot to do with the loss to because if he makes that we are only down by 1 or 2 points and then all we have to do is get into fg range

If we won the game, would you be here talking about how great the wildcat looked and how great Pennington looked on 3rd downs and how we were able to dominate the TOP? I bet you would. This place is turning out to be as bad as "the site that shall not be named" after a loss.

 

We can win against great teams. In my opinion our offense hurts itself by just lining up and playing, instead of running plays to deceive the opponents linebackers and safeties. It isn't Chad, we ran the same type of offense with Henne in the game preseason. We didnt really take many shots down field then either.

 

Venevicidici, I get your point. The margin of error is small. Penny can't throw the ball deep. But you know what? Jay Cutler can throw the ball deep...and he can throw 4 picks too.

We won 11 games with Pennington. You're right in that we were setting them up all night to go long and never did. Who knows if Ginn got open deep and Penny never hit him. Gotta look at the game film (but I'll never do that).

 

What great team have we beat since last year? We beat a Brady less Patriots team, and that was probably our best win all year with an opponent that ended up with a winning record. San Diego arguably was next, who had a 2-6 record in the first half.

We haven't beaten a great team yet.

The second-to-the last drive, I thought we "settled" for the FG instead of trying for the first down and running the clock down. 2nd and 3rd down before the FG, we run dive plays up the gut...

The reason for Pat White's two plays were for what? Two yards? That coulda been drive killers except Chad and Ronnie bailed him out.

My blame goes to Dan Henning. Last week he heard all the criticism about not running the ball enough so this week all he did was run the ball. Mix it up Dan. Recognize the defense's weaknesses and attack. This game was ours, no doubt.

 

I'm so sick and tired of hearing about how Chad Pennington gives you a chance to win ball games. GTFOH. I don't want a QB who gives me a chance to win. I want a QB who goes out there and wins it.

agreed. he's served his purpose which was to run the ship while we transformed under parcells. Its time to move on. we need more. hennes arm will open things and he needs experience at this point. i think the billls or saints game would be the best time to start him

 

That is six 3rd down conversions for Ginn and it is all forgotten because of one jump ball at the end of the game.

 

7 out of 11 passes caught first down conversions for 3rd or 4th down. Amazing.
