Dude, you can't be serious...CAN you? We may draft one in the later rounds to add depth AS a back up because RW will be a free agent after next season. But we aren't drafting one to replace Ronnie.

Now, if Ronnie were to get hurt again this coming season, then I could see the FO going that route next year.

Anyway, Ronnie's production is good. He has shared carries with RW and the injury bug has been unkind to him. But when he's on the field, he is a very good, very productive back.

 

Are you out of your mind? I think you should take a look at the numbers. As in the stats...

Ronnie carried the ball only 214 times this year, for 916 yards, AND 10 touchdowns.

If you look at all of the RB's in the league this year, with over 1000 yards which you so badly desire from our RB, then it should be noted that all but two running back that ran for 1000 yards this year carried the ball a minimum of 232 times. (The lone exceptions were Derrick Ward and Brandon Jacobs of the Giants)

So, Ronnie carried the ball this year and average of 4.3 yards per carry (which IS pretty damn good). And the average number of carries for ALL backs with OVER 1000 yards this season works out to 267. So, simple math would tell us IF ronnie wasnt splitting carries with Ricky and he rushed the ball an average of 267 times he would have ran for 1148 yards. I'd be willing to be that If he wasnt splitting time with Ricky, and just coming back from the knee injury, he would have seen even more carries than 267 as well...

Anyways... long story short, Drafting Moreno, or anyone right now to replace Ronnie... is absolutely ridiculous. We have more important needs. Case Closed.

 

Ronnie should have at least 2 more premium years left, if not 3. Yes he will cost a bundle, but his talent is tremendous and why would we pay Ronnie his money, and then spend money on a rookie to do the same thing.

You dont phase pro bowl caliber RB's to a backup position. There really is no such thing as a "back up" position with RB's anyways. You have role players who come in and do what is expected of them in diff. situations. When RB is at a point in his career where he no longer starts for us it will be due to his age and skill set has dropped dramatically. You dont pull a singer off the stage when the crowd yells encore son.

 

Is Ronnie a FA next year? I'm not so sure that the FO will give a 28-29 year old RB (with a history of injuries to boot) a boatload of money. Now, he won't be phased into a backup role during his time in Miami, but I could very easily see the Trifecta taking steps towards replacing him over the next two offseasons.

Parmele and Hilliard weren't drafted by coincidence last year. This FO group is looking for the next Marion Barber.. and if they find him, I don't think they'll hesitate letting Brown walk at the end of his contract.

 

No way we get rid of our RB's right now. Next year Ricky should be gone and than I think we draft a RB to compete with Ronnie. If Ronnie gets beat out so be it but now dont fix what aint broken

 

Ronnie Brown is signed through 2010, his cap charge this season is around 6M not an unreasonable amount... The reason most HB's wear down at 30 is the pounding they have taken, this is not really an issue with Ronnie. He has shared carries basically his whole career. His single 1000 yard season isnt great but you seem to forget the 30-40 passes he is going to catch out of the backfield as well. He is good for twelve to fifteen hundred yards from teh line of scrimmage while splitting carries and not complaining.... Yeah we need to get rid of that guy

RB is just reaching his prime and there is no RB in the NFL who is more versatile .The Wildcat would not have been possible without him .

However this regime is not going to overpay for a RB IMO so we may lose him due to that factor .

 

Regardless of his wear and tear, he'll be 29 when his contract expires.. and while he's a good back, I question the wisdom of giving any RB a huge contract.

 

I think we're being a little harsh on the OP. We shouldn't draft a RB high this year to replace Ronnie. But our offense needs to have a two headed attack. Ricky is no sure thing, and could be a non-factor quicker than you can count to one. I could see us spending as high as a 3rd round pick on a RB in the 09 or 10 drafts. Remember in Dallas they drafted Marion Barber while they already had a good young starter in Julius Jones. If they see a guy that they really like ala Barber, we could have some new young feet in the backfield.

Your reasoning is completely and totally flawed, but there's something to the base idea.

Ronnie Brown is a FA after this year, I believe. Parcells and Co. generally do not drop a ton of money on running back, considering it relatively interchangeable and something best handled by multiple players. The possibility for this being Brown's last season in Miami is there. Not to mention that Ricky Williams is a FA after this season as well, and/or may retire.

The Dolphins need to figure out exactly what they have in Patrick Cobbs this offseason. He's young, talented, and under contract.

If this offseason has shown us anything its that no RB near 30 is getting a big contract. Look at LT the leagues premier HB for the last 6-7 years and now he may be out. It think the Phins will let Ronnie play out his deal and then at 29 they will offer a short term deal at less money

Ok, due to the uncapped year and Ronnie having only 5 years in teh league. He would be a restricted free agent, I assume the Phins will tag him at the highest level and no team is going to give up a 1st and 3rd for a nearly 30 year old HB.

It's always a hard thing to deal with when a star running back starts to decline and get pushed into the 2nd role and eventually cut or let go. Look at what is going on with L.T. and the Chargers. But Ronnie Brown is not even close to that yet. He is fresher than the majority of his peers because of the work load that he has been asked to carry.

Eventually this will happen but not now.

Some teams seem to have a philosophy of ridding themselves of players, prior to their expiration dates, in hopes of reaping value from whats leftover in their tank, as well as the player's popularity, and confidence his past production instills, that he'll successfully fit roles other teams may have.
Parcells however, has not been one to follow this methodology, prefering to retain his guys, once confident they suit nis needs, and if anything, has remained unusually loyal to his proven veterans.

 

Yea 1116 yards on 306 carries in his first season then it was down hill. His highest career yards per carry with the Dolphins was 3.6 yards per carry. Thats not to mention that he had Dan Marino for a quarterback.
I wonder what RB would do with 306 carries in a season and someone the caliber of Marino playing quarterback?

I would argue that there's at least one back that's more versatile than Ronnie Brown. Brian Westbrook would be ahead of him IMO. Westbrook can do it all, run, catch, return punts and kicks.

Dude, run, as FAST as you can. Ive been apart of these boards for 4 years now and this may be the most garbage post i have ever seen. I could sit here and explain to you the millions of reasons why this post is so off but i refuse to waste my time. Actually had Brown played in one more game in 2005 and this year, he would have had three 1,000 seasons out of the four hes played in. I would say thats pretty impressive despite the injuries.

 

Why the heck would we draft a top running back to replace Ronnie Brown? I mean..geesh....Zach Thomas is probably gonna leave the Cowboys...and we could just convert him to be a Mike Alstodt clone...hand it to him 30 times a game. With the way he studies game film, he would probably be able to make a cut before the defense even knows which way they are gonna go. Plus...he'd come cheap.
