Putting aside whatever gripes I have with your opinion of Sherman...how can Philbin be a good coach if he's hired such an inept OC? Isn't Sherman's performance reflective of Philbin?

 

I saw the Dolphins move the ball just fine against one of the best D's so far, I know the Card fans would think your statement is nuts.

More as in stay on the field because you just named 90% of the offense to make a play.

 

I thought the play calling was significantly better this game. He didn't abandon the run, which is great despite the lack of success. Near the end of the game, reggie was starting to get push. It was TURNOVERS that lost it for us this game. To much inconsistency on the o-line or tailbacks missing blocks that caused two, crucial turnovers that lost us the game.

 

Fans of every team complains about their offensive coordinator.


But we do it after 4 games and a near record day for Tannehill.

I'm pretty thrilled with all the offensive coaching at this point. Call me crazy but I love what this offense is doing with a rookie QB and lack of playmakers. I liked that last week they were going for the TD instead of playing safe and just trying to make the field goal easier. I like the faith they showed in Tannehill yesterday. Right now I'm a pretty big fan of this coaching staff. They are working miracles with what Ireland has given them.

If I question them on anything, it's that they are allowing Legadu Naanee into the lineup.

Don't really agree with this post. The team has limited weapons. It's a receivers job to catch the ball.

And what makes you think we're not using guys like Bush and Hartline enough, or that Miller is truly ready for a expanded role or that Lane is actually a play-maker??

I've had some quibbles with Sherman at times this year, but do you think Tannehill and Hartline put up those statistics without Sherman being the architect? How quickly we forget Dan Henning.

I think that Sherman has done a fantastic job, considering the limited skill players he has on offense. I also think that he used Reggie yesterday as effectively as he could. Perhaps you missed the fact that the Cardinals have one of the top rush defenses in the entire NFL. The offensive line just wasn't able to consistently open holes for Reggie, or any of the other running backs.

Sherman therefore stayed with what was working, the passing game. How you can state that he didn't use Hartline enough in the game is beyond explanation. Hartline happened to set a team record for receiving yards in the game and he had 12 catches. Bess, the second best receiver on the team had an additional 7 catches for over a hundred yards. Tannehill also passed for over 400 yards in the game.

Obviously you are not able to recognize the limited offensive weapons this team has at this time. Yet Sherman has been effective in every game, except perhaps the Houston game, in calling plays which have worked best against the opposing defense.

The Dolphins did not lose this game because of the play calling of Sherman. They lost because there were players on both sides of the ball which did not make plays at the end of the game which would have allowed the Dolphins to win the game.

Blaming the OC or the DC for the failures of these players is totally absurd. All the coaches can do is put the players in the right position to make the play. It is up to each player on the field to make the plays to win the game. The failure of the team to win yesterday was completely the fault of the players who didn't make the plays when the game was on the line.

Obviously there is no HC, OC, or DC, who call a perfect game. They are human and they sometimes call an offensive play or a defensive coverage which don't work out, or may have been the wrong call for the situation. This is the case with every single HC or coordinator in the NFL.

I have absolutely no problem with Sherman as the Dolphins OC and if two DB's had been able to cover one WR with less than a minute to go in the game, Sherman would be getting a great deal of credit for the Dolphins winning the game yesterday, instead of getting remarks calling him horrible.

I hope you were more aware of the game you were switched to yesterday than you were about what happened in the Dolphins game. Because based on your comments, I don't think you really have any idea of what transpired with the offense of the Dolphins in yesterday's game.

 

1) Lane scored a TD and a crucial two point conversion. You pick your spots with a FB and we did successfully.

2) Bush is/was leading the league in rushing....what more production do you want from him?

3) Lamar Miller is a rookie who has looked nice but he can't pass protect. Once he can I'm sure we will see more of him.

4) Hartline is not a playmaker. He has good hands but you're never going to see him make a play based on his athletic merits. The 80 yard TD was horribly blown coverage and in general there are a LOT of flaws in his game. One being horrible consistency. He's a #2 at best IMO.

5) Three of the guys you named line up in the backfield. There is only so much you can do with your backs, at some point your receivers need to make a play.

Aside from the playcalling at the end of the Jets game in overtime I've been 100% happy with Sherman.

 

All evidence to the contrary. Blown coverages happen all the time. The thing I'm digging about Hartline this year is that he's typically doing his work in tight coverage on the sideline. There's not a lot of margin of error on those throws as was evidenced by the int when he slipped and fell down.

 

I guess that means Tanny did it despite the ineptitude of Sherman. That really speaks well of RT then. Not only did he have a record setting day, but did it with a doddering old fool as his OC. After a couple of more games, we'll probably see Tanny become basically his own OC sort of like Peyton Manning. Sherman can just sit in the booth and drink his Metamucil and worry about when next to change his Adult Depends.

I do not agree. There is more than one way to earn the label of playmaker. You mean to tell me his acrobatic catches he often makes along the sidelines while able to consistently get both feet down in bounds isn't indicative of a playmaker? I would beg to differ. He does have some strong athletic merits. He was a top hurdler in track and his 3 cone at the combine was exceptional. Both are definitive traits of a very athletic person. If he was OTW, no one would ever discount his athletic merits. BTW, he has excellent hands, not merely good hands.

 

Who is the WR in question? Hartline was thrown at 17 times and caught 12. No drops. Bess was thrown at 12 times, caught 7 with one drop. How does either constitute a WR who keeps dropping passes? :confused1:

I can ***** about our OC as good as anyone but one thing I have seen this season, is the team is moving the damn ball thru the air and by running.

I think Sherman is the best OC we've had in a minute. He's made some bonehead calls but calls like seeing Hartline so wide open like on the long Td was priceless.

in my unprofessional opinion:
1) Coach Sherman is a proven commodity. need not go beyond that fact, there is no argument.
2) I suspect they are giving Thomas a shot at redemption before trading him. as far as Lane goes, I can only suppose they are saving him for the second half the season as they get a handle on the worth of Thomas
3) @ the mid-point there may be adjustments made for developmental purposes moving up a WR or two from the practice squad replacing some non-productive veterans :yes:
