Am I misreading it, or is Omar saying Tannehill was bad today, unlike yesterday. Wasn't it yesterday that Omar said he had a horrible practice while also tweeting him as throwing essentially 3 TD's?

I posted this in another thread, but it seems as appropriate here.

On that TD to Clay, RT did a great job of looking off the coverage. You know from his comments afterwards that Clay was his primary target on the play. We had enough camera angles/views to see that RT looked left the whole time before hitting Clay in the middle. It's also something that highlighted as a strength in those Gruden QB shows. My guess is that it's far more likely that Omar doesn't know what he's looking at.

 

To me that looked like a short route, first read throw. Those aren't routes you're supposed to look off. I hear people incorrectly reference those kinds of passes as staring down receivers all the time.

Omar's eyes are the problem. On this td, while it was a nice pass, I'll give a lot of the credit to Wallace. The when he first looked for the ball it was maybe halfway there, he slowed a bit like the pass wasn't for him, and the so did the defender (he didn't look for the ball, just watched RW), RW then hit the gas and got a few yards of separation and caught the ball in stride, taking it the distance. Good sell plus good timing to pull away.

A pump would not work timing wise. The pass would be late. Those passes aren't generally even taught as a read. You're supposed to look and throw immediately. There's no defense to read. You're supposed to throw it out there before the defender can react. In fact, the defender on the main guy is irrelevant. You're only concern is if the outside corner doesn't follow his receiver.

 

I think it's them not using the right words to express what they've seen. In terms of the offense he's in, he held the ball longer than he should. The outside corner followed the WR in on the slant. BOOM you throw it out there and lead Clay to the endzone pylon/sideline... Tanny waited an extra half-second. not sure why,. It's amasing the difference that half-second makes, though.


The only options by then were to jam it in there with a fastball, go to another receiver, or wait ANOTHER second then see if Clay turned towards the back pylon so you could lob it back corner.

 

Anybody noticing how he's using deeks in his repertoire ?, I loved seing him use them in practice and it showed up in the game..

 

He didn't stare down the out right. I just re-watched it. But he threw the out route late, which is just as bad.

 

I agree that he threw it late. I wouldn't say it' just as bad b/c I believe the timing is easier to teach/learn quickly. It's mostly about reps with the receivers.

The stare-down criticism is one of my pet-peeves b/c I hear fans say it so often and most of the time they're completely wrong.

 

Well I agree. I didn't mean just as bad meaning it couldn't be fixed. I meant just as bad as in that actual play in game. Throwing the out route late, especially near the goal line is inviting a pick 6. Something that is easily fixable.

 

I don't think that out route as it played out was a serious danger for interception. The defender got a hand on it, but he would have had to make an extraordinary effort to get both hands on the ball and retain possession. Possible, but I don't think particularly likely.

 

I tend to think in terms of player evaluation first so that's where my mind went. I agree that throwing a ball late can be as damaging as staring down a receiver.
