The Miami Dolphins (8-3) and San Francisco 49ers (7-4) will meet for a Week 13 battle Sunday at Levi’s Stadium at 4:05 p.m. ET (FOX).

Miami came off a bye week and continued what is now a 5-game winning streak with a home win over the Texans. QB Tua Tagovailoa threw for 299 yards, as Miami (-14) covered in a 30-15 boat race against the Texans. The Dolphins — who averaged 16.0 points per game from Sept. 27-Oct. 23 — have now scored 30-plus points in 4 straight games.

The 49ers shut out New Orleans 13-0 Sunday. Holding the Saints to 260 total yards helped San Francisco cover a 9.5-point line. The Niners are 4-0 since Oct. 30. At 15.7 PPG allowed, their defense ranks 1st in the league.
49ers come in favored in the upcoming match.

    Dolphins vs. 49ers head-to-head
In a series that dates back to 1973, the Dolphins have won 8 games, and the 49ers have taken 6. Miami has won 2 straight and 4 of the last 5. These squads have met 4 times since 2008: the 49ers and the Over are 3-1 during that stretch.

Just saw below. The Niners have not really beaten any stellar teams lately either. They only scored 13 points against the Saints.

The last two Niners wins have been cool.

2016 win at home where Colin Kaepernick made news praising Fidel Castro after his recent death. Closer game than is should have been but Kaep gets flattened to end the game.

2020 was blowout win with Fitzmagic dominating the Niners infront of an empty stadium. The Dolphins beat the Jags the week before and the Jets the week after leading Flores to decide to start Tua.

Next Sunday is going to be a bit of a homecoming for Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. The Dolphins are set to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon, a team that McDaniel was a part of from 2017-21.

McDaniel was asked about that matchup during his press conference on Monday and confirmed that he wants to make it just like any other game. “I will do everything in my power to make it another game because I think that should be the objective of any head coach is that you make it about the players,” McDaniel said, via ProFootballTalk. “I really stray away from making anything about me. I just don’t believe in it."

The Dolphins enter this matchup with an 8-3 record, which is good for first place in the AFC East. They've also won five straight games and look poised to do some damage in the playoffs.

As for the 49ers, they're 7-4 and are in first place in the NFC West after they took down the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Kickoff for this highly-anticipated matchup will be at 4:05 p.m. ET.

A rare game where not much would shock me.
I have no feel for what could happen.
There are a lot of unknown variables that should effect this game.

A blowout in either direction is possible. You could also convince me this will be a nail biter..

Wouldn’t be surprised with a high scoring offensive game or a grind it out 16-13 type game.

In theory their defense knows our offense better then our defense knows their offense since they have been going against it for more time. I'm hoping Miami wins so that coach can get out of the 49ers shadow.

    More from McDaniel:

“But in terms of this week, it will be odd for a second, for sure, to be in a different locker room, or pulling up on the bus in a weird area, or being on a different sideline for a second, I’m assuming — just odd as in abnormal. But after that, my obligation is to serve each and every player and coach and try to get the best out of them. Nowhere in that equation has anything to do with my past history and travels, so that’s why I don’t — when I say it’s not about me, I really, really mean it.”

As for facing Shanahan, McDaniel said — much like he did when the Dolphins played Bill Belichick and the Patriots — that he’s not going to be doing an Oklahoma drill against the 49ers’ head coach.

“I don’t really look across the sidelines that much at opposing coaches. So I don’t think, on the field, I will feel anything different than any other game in regard to him,” McDaniel said. “I owe a lot to him in general. I will be forever grateful, and I think he’s always been one of the best, if not the best, offensive coaches and head coaches that I’ve ever had experience being around.

“It’s a tough test, and that’s the bigger deal — No. 1 defense in the league, an offense that does a great job getting yards, getting it to all their unbelievable talented skill position players and a special teams [unit] that has definitely — Ray-Ray McCloud is an issue that you have to handle. So that’s the bigger thing is that we’ve been progressing week by week, and in the NFL, if you’re aspiring to do big things, you have to play big time football in December and January against big time teams. So that’s something that I think our team will be excited for, and I know the 49ers will be excited to play football like they always are each and every week.”

The Dolphins enter the game No. 3 in yards and No. 6 in points scored, having put up at least 30 points in their last four games. The 49ers are No. 1 in yards allowed and points allowed, surrendering 16 points or fewer in their last four games.

Something has got to give and based on the relationships between the coaching staffs, Sunday should be a fascinating chess match.

    I like this pick:

Miami (8-3) at San Francisco (7-4)
    4:05 p.m ET (Fox)

I have to say, whoever is in charge of flexing Sunday night games this year fell asleep at the wheel this week because there are about eight better games than the one we're getting, which is Colts at Cowboys. If it had been up to me, this game would have been my first choice, but I would have also been fine with Titans-Eagles, Jets-Vikings or even Commanders-Giants. I mean, they could have moved the Panthers to Sunday night and I would've been happy and the Panthers are on a bye. I would have also been fine with a Hallmark Christmas movie being flexed in over Colts-Cowboys, but that also didn't happen, so I guess I'll be watching "Three Wise Men and a Baby" at its normal time this weekend. (By the way, I didn't list Chiefs-Bengals as a possible flex game because there's no way CBS was going to give that up).

This game is fascinating on multiple levels and one reason for that is because the Dolphins are coached by Mike McDaniel, who spent five seasons with the 49ers (2017-21) before being hired by Miami in January. Since being hired, McDaniel has basically done everything in his power to turn the Dolphins into the AFC version of the 49ers.

    • Get a QB who gets no respect even though all they do is win? Check.
    • Get a dynamic receiver who can also run the ball? Check.
    • Get a running back or two who can line up anywhere? Check.
The best part about that last thing is that McDaniel literally stole his running backs from the 49ers. Raheem Mostert spent five seasons in San Francisco before signing with the Dolphins prior to the 2022 season. Miami also acquired Jeff Wilson from the 49ers just before the trade deadline this year.

These two teams are so alike that we should probably just go ahead and stop using the Spiderman meme because it will never apply to anything more than it does to this game.

I bet Mike McDaniel and Kyle Shanahan are under those masks.

If there's one advantage the 49ers have in this game, it's that they have one of the best defenses in the NFL. However, I'm not fully sure what to make of that, because one reason their defensive numbers are so good is because they've played some of the worst teams in the NFL. Yes, you have to play who's on your schedule, but beating up on bad teams doesn't tell me anything about you.

Through 12 weeks, the 49ers have had the easiest strength of schedule in the NFL. Their opponents have a combined winning percentage of just .397, which is crazy when you consider that no other NFL team is even at .420 (The Dolphins' strength of schedule through 12 weeks has been .496).

The 49ers have played four teams this year that currently have five wins or more and they're 2-2 in those games. I think what I'm trying to say here is that I'm going to need proof that the 49ers can beat good teams before I start picking them to beat good teams.

The pick: Dolphins 27-24 over 49ers.

I've gotten so used to us scoring 30+ ppg over the last few weeks, but I can see this one being a lower scoring game. I'm going to predict that we win this one though. We're a better team than them I think. Not that SF is some pushover. They're clearly a playoff team and have been able to win and go deep in the playoffs. I think they have a good chance at getting to the Super Bowl this year if they can get into the playoffs again. With that being said, I think we can beat them and I think we do on Sunday. It'll be the game of the week. Dolphins 21- 49ers 17 (Tua takes us down the field for a game winning drive).

Two things that truly concern me about this game…

Terron Armstead will not be playing. We all know what the offensive line plays like without him.

The 49ers have not allowed a 2nd half point against their last 4 opponents, out scoring them 57-0. In fact, the 49ers have the number 1 ranked defense, allowing an average of only 16 points per game.

Miami’s going to have to establish the run, which is going to be a challenge against this stout 49ers defense. If Tua is expected to drop back 35-40 times, we’re going to lose.

Josh Boyer is going to have to bring the heat against Garappollo. He’s been playing some football this season, completing 67% of his passes and if memory serves me correct, has thrown 17TDs to only 4 Ints. Get pressure on Garappollo and he easily gets rattled.

Miami CAN win this game and if they do, against a stout smash mouth team in the 49ers, the next power rankings better not have Miami any lower than 3rd…and the Chiefs had better not fall asleep at the wheel, otherwise the road to the Super Bowl for the AFC runs through Miami Gardens.

We're going to lose if that's the case because I don't think we can run the ball without Armstead.

Maybe, maybe not. Keep in mind that Moestert and Wilson know the 49ers defensive players. They know who is strong, who is weak, who will bite on what and what they won’t.

The only wildcard is what will the OL do as far as blocking for the run. We’ll find out Sunday.

We’ve got 2 things colliding this weekend, SF’s 4 game winning streak vs our 5 game winning streak. Our streak is against teams that are 16-39-1, SF’s 17-29. One of the top defenses in the NFL against one of the top offenses.

My biggest concern is their front 7 vs our OL. I think it’s going to take some magic scheming from McDaniel and Tuas’s best game as a pro, even though the stats might not reflect that.

We’re going to need to keep a TE for an extra blocker and get rid of the ball quicker. Tua has shown an elite level ability to read the defense, get rid of the ball quickly and make the right read.

My homer pick, Mia 23 SF 20. My head tells me SF 23 Mia 17.

49ers have actually shut out opponents in the 2nd half of their last 4 games! Pretty rare to see that.

However, that vaunted SF defense got totally gashed the last time they faced an elite QB — Mahomes — giving up 44 points, so it's not like they're kryptonite against very good QB's. And this year Tua is playing elite. So it's not all bad vibes here.

It's good we're getting tested like this though. If we go 2-1 in the next 3 games I think we're top 5 favorites for a SB run.

The more I look into this game, the more I think we are going to win. I'm just not sure how good the 49ers defence actually is, they haven't played a lot of good offences. As others have said, the Chiefs dropped 44 on them but they did hold the Seahawks to only 7 points which now looks very good.

Out of the top 12 offences for points per game, they have only faced the Chiefs and Seahawks. For reference, the Dolphins have faced 6 of the top 12 points per game offences this season (Bills, Bengals, Ravens, Lions, Browns and Vikings). We also faced the Bears just as they figured out that Fields is a better runner than passer.

Of the bottom 12 scoring offences we have only played 2, Steelers who we held to 10 and the Texans who we blew out and played soft the 2nd half. The 49ers have had 5 games against bottom 12 offences (Broncos, Rams x 2, Panthers and Saints).

The NFL rule changes through the years have also favoured offences so it's much better now to have a great offence than a great defence. If coach Mike can scheme up enough protection for Tua to get the ball out I really like out chances in this game as I don't think their offence can keep up with ours.

Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert clarified his remarks about his former team, which sparked a social media squabble this week. In an interview with Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com, Mostert said “we have way more talent here” and that the Dolphins “have a quarterback that can actually sling it.” It was perceived as a slap at the 49ers, where he spent five-plus seasons, and former teammate Jimmy Garoppolo.

That’s not what he intended in his comments, Mostert said on KNBR. “I can see how that can get misconstrued, to take snippets out of what one person said and alter it in a way that just seems like it’s relevant in that I’m on a different team,” Mostert said, via Jerry McDonald of The Mercury News. “That’s not what I meant.”

Deebo Samuel responded on Twitter to Mostert’s original comments, saying, “Raheem, be real with yourself.”

Mostert, who signed with the Dolphins in March, said he knows first-hand how talented the 49ers are. “In regards to ‘we have more talent here,’ I was speaking in terms of, we have more talent here, at this moment, than what has been here in the past,” Mostert said on the radio. “C’mon, I was with the Niners for several years. I know what their talent is. There’s unbelievable talent on both sides of the ball and on special teams. I wasn’t trying to take shots on anyone. ”

Mostert said he has a strong relationship with Garoppolo and “would never, ever in a million years talk down on a player specifically.”

In Mostert’s original comments, he said the 49ers pressured him to return from injury in 2021 rather than have season-ending need surgery. Mostert instead had surgery. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan responded Monday, saying “there are always different opinions on those things.”

Mostert followed coaches Mike McDaniel, Wes Welker and Jon Embree from San Francisco to Miami. Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and wide receivers Trent Sherfield and River Cracraft also are with the Dolphins now after spending time with the 49ers.

I honestly believe this game will come down to our defense's ability to get the Niners off the field and give the offense as many chances to score as possible. My biggest concern in this game is Boyer's ability to game plan from the start. He has made good adjustments this season but I want teams to be in catch up mode instead of being in shootouts. . The last thing we need is to find ourselves behind and have to score quick to catch up.

49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel missed practice on Thursday with a quad injury and it looks like Friday’s practice will provide a major hint as to his availability for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.

During an appearance on KNBR, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if Samuel would be a game-time decision this weekend. Shanahan said that the wideout has “to do something today for it to be a chance to be a game-time decision.”

“Any time you don’t practice, it’s a worry,” Shanahan said, via 49ersWebzone.com. “We’re not just giving him off to give him off. He’s trying to get healthy. He’s working as hard as he can. His thigh has been bothering him. It hasn’t loosened up the way we want it to, but hopefully, it will be better today, and he’ll be good to go for Sunday.”

Shanahan sounded more positive about the outlooks of defensive tackle Arik Armstead and running back Christian McCaffrey, so Samuel may be the big question mark for the 49ers this weekend.

The Dolphins may have to tangle with the 49ers defensive line without the help of either of their starting offensive tackles.

Left tackle Terron Armstead and right tackle Austin Jackson missed their second straight day of practice on Thursday. Armstead is dealing with toe and pectoral injuries while Jackson has an ankle injury. Brandon Shell and Greg Little would be the next tackles up for the Dolphins.

Running back Myles Gaskin (shoulder, ankle) was the only other player out of practice on Thursday. Edge rusher Melvin Ingram (illness) returned to practice after sitting out on Wednesday. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (knee) and running back Raheem Mostert (knee) were limited participants while quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (ankle) remained a full participant.

In a weak division as the NFC Less, for the 49ers TEAM, that would be wise move. A loss to the Dolphins won’t really affect their playoff chances but if they’re without Samuel for some time, that would!

Wish we could say the same thing but being in the AFC Beast, EVERY game is a must win. Historically, Miami has not faired well in the playoffs in cold weather cities. We have to do everything we can get make the road go through Miami.

The Berman/ESPN bias vs Miami is alive and well. It’s been somewhat dormant since Miami hasn’t been a contender, but it’s back out there now. The only way to shut them up is to win, and keep winning. As a Dolphin fan, you should be 100% behind Tua just to shove it down these idiots’ throats.

Yeah, you'd think that sometime in this century, somebody would have thought to put extra depth on the OL instead of making it the position where having five adequate players and two serviceable backups is a satisfactory goal. Especially since we've failed to figure out a long-term solution under center. Putting suspect QBs behind OLs that have been one predictable injury from collapse has yielded predictable results, especially since we've done it time after time.

Here’s hoping McDaniel pushes for that change.
