Waste of a great season. Losing Chubb is going to crush the defense and if Tua can't play the offense will be dead in the water. And they both should have been taken out long before they got injured.
Well that was just embarrassing. I made a bunch of posts earlier in this thread emphasizing there were no excuses for losing, and that winning or losing this game was going to come down to mental issues, not injuries. Too bad we failed. Primary culprit is Fangio not having the ability to adjust mid-game, but dropped TD passes (easy ones too) and Tua throwing some ill-advised passes are also indicative of not quite having that championship mentality. McD was also stupid for keeping the starters in the game that long. Either way, none of this matters if we win next week. If we win we get the #2 seed and should be in good shape for the playoffs. Almost every playoff team out there has had some recent meltdowns. KC for sure! Philly losing to Arizona today is another example (Philly lost 4 out of last 5 now!!!). Even Baltimore has a lot to prove. Many times they play well in the regular season only for Jackson to crap in the postseason. So.. sky is NOT falling as long as we win next week and win a playoff game. But if we lose next week and lose in the playoffs, then this team hasn't done squat. Glad today's embarrassment came in the regular season, not playoffs. I think we'll be OK. Buffalo looked crap today too.
This was more than a one game loss. This was the end of the year. Happy New Year guys! This team has a long way still with a bunch of big decisions to make on how to get better.
I'm going with a no. Allen has not looked good, but we will make him look like MVP. Sad reality getting destroyed is just bad
Our pass rush was never that effective against Allen. Key thing is to keep Allen in the pocket. If our coaches game plan this well we'll win. I was also looking back and forth between the Buffalo game and ours (since we crapped the bed so early), and Buffalo has a lot of issues too. They beat lowly NE by 6 when Zappe throws 0 TDs and 3 INTs. Figure that. I think many Buffalo fans are worried after today.
Not a chance in hell. The Fins lose the division next week and then lose on the road in the first round. This team had every chance to take the AFC East this year and just pi$$ed it all away in one damned quarter of football against the Titans. I knew when they lost that game that it was over. No one wanted to believe it but this is exactly what happens every single time the Dolphins have an opportunity to seize the day dating back almost 25 years.. They fold. Different GMs, different coaches, different QBs, hell, different owners. But same old Dolphins.
Do we even want to beat them? I think if we beat them we play them again the very next week in round 1.
Why not? Buffalo is really not all that . Barely beat the (Herbert less) Chargers and struggled against the Pats ever after being gifted 4 turnovers in the first half.
I don't trust this team away from home. We could get 2 home playoff games with the #2 seed. Yes we want to win. Also important mentally. If we lose to Buffalo and limp into the playoffs that will affect the belief they can win.
Divisional games are always close and beating the same team back to back would be extremely difficult.
Yup. Still no excuses as long as Tua can play. Have to find ways to overcome. And btw that usually means coaching. Look at the lack of ability to adapt today by Fangio. More than any other single factor that cost us the game. Good thing is McD is young. He's not set in his ways, and he's showing he can learn. Notice how after last year he decided to balance run and pass more this year even though this is primarily a passing team? Notice how late this year he started to run more on short yardage situations? Notice the "coast" mentality went away after Tennessee? I have more hope he'll learn from experiences like this than an older HC that's more set in his ways. Still has to prove it though.
Bills are very Jekyll and Hyde but Allen could have his way with this defense if they don't play 10 times better
I almost didn't log on today because of all the "sky is falling" posts I expected to see here. The plan all along was to win 2 of the final 3, we knew winning all 3 would be near impossible and that's not accounting for injuries. Many here that are suddenly freaking out have stated time and time again that we'd finish the year 0-3, so I'm not sure why they're the most surprised of the bunch. Plain and simple, Baltimore is the best team in the AFC and it's not even close. The Bills game is a huge challenge and it will set the tone for the playoffs. Definitely looking forward to it and I hope we heal up quickly. The sky is not falling though and this was pretty predictable- the Ravens are just that good this year.
so a season that promised so much will end with us not even winning the division. Only the Fins could do that
Yeah, but there's a difference between Chicken Little being hit by an acorn and a T-rex watching the Chicxulub meteor come down to fry the planet. In the second case, the sky was indeed falling. In this case, Chicxulub is heading down to Miami next weekend to win the ****ing division.
Go wanted this so bad and guess what they got it! Next week is a must watch game and raining and sponsorships will be at an all time high! plus when do we win in these situations? Hardly ever
Yeah I've noticed some coaches need some "coaching" on how to interpret those 4th down stats. When the stats say go for it on 4th down it makes sense IF you get many (similar) 4th down opportunities in the same game, but not if you don't. Some teams (e.g., Detroit) are a bit overaggressive with the 4th down thing. But as more data piles in coaches will better understand when 4th down stats are useful. McD is learning the hard way I think.
I get it, but at some point the injuries are too much. These guys are starters for a reason. They get crazy contracts or first round pick status for a reason. Because they ARE better than the other guys behind them. Every game feels like we lose someone major. Every week we have surprise injury inactives. You can replace a guy, but to have as many major injuries as we do it's just too damn much. Cool, Phillips goes down and we can rely on Chubb and plug in AVG. Now Chubb goes down ... who do you play? Ogbah? Ingram? These guys haven't played all year for a reason, and it's not because we were saving them. I don't know what is going on, but this team has been injury plagued for years it feels like, and it is going to keep holding us back until it is fixed. This game shattered all confidence in this year and I don't see why/how it can be any other way. It's not just the loss which I expected and was fine taking. It was the absolute beatdown, with yet more major injuries, and our smoking hot divisional rival that all but owns us coming up. I have 0 faith. None. For me the season is over and I'm just kinda peacing out. I lost my care factor and excitement. I don't think we are bad, I don't think we should fire McDaniel, or cut Tua, or fire Grier ... as far as I am concerned injuries killed us, inexperience killed us and Fangio was the most overrated hire of the decade across the entire NFL. He can go for all I care.
I'm usually positive no matter what but the injuries today has me feeling like the sky is falling fast. How many more injuries can this team handle? Howard, Chubb, and Tua all injured today. Mostert and Waddle already out. Phillips and Connor Williams already lost for the season. I can't remember having so many key starters being injured like this. Hill constantly gimping around with a bad ankle. Ramsey pops up on the injury report this week with a knee. Holland missed a quarter of the season before returning today. Baker out indefinitely. Achane constantly banged up. I can't enjoy a game without worrying about who goes down next.
Bills will destroy Miami next week. I’d love to be wrong but I really don’t see them winning. A few of us tried to tell you how foolish it was to pull for Buffalo against the Chiefs a few weeks back.
Several things: 1. The point at which injuries become "too much" is usually well beyond what most fans think. It's really interesting that it's very hard to predict wins and losses by looking at which side has more injuries or key injuries (outside of QB). That's statistical evidence that the point as which injuries become "too much" is beyond what intuition suggests. 2. One reason injuries often don't predict outcomes well is because both sides suffer from them. I know you're fixated on the Dolphins but injuries beset most teams. Just look at Buffalo last year. I mentioned their defense being #4 in points allowed per game despite losing many key players throughout the season. They never did reach the point at which it was "too much". We haven't either judging by the Dallas game, though obviously we got a few more today. 3. This game shattering confidence in the team is an overreaction. We have one more game to play, and if we win we're the #2 seed. There's no reason to lose confidence unless we lose to Buffalo at home where we're 7-1 and where we beat Buffalo last year. Wait one more game before deciding if this team was a failure this season or not.
Last year, we had the advantage of them coming to Miami in week 3 were the heat played a major factor. Otherwise, they’ve pretty much owned Miami like we’ve owned NE.
Yeah but Buffalo looked a lot stronger last year too. They were limping today. We're not the only ones looking bad right before season's end.
