Key Play
At the 12:49 mark of the 1st quarter the Cardinals had not run a play. The Cardinals had taken possession of a Dolphins punt at their own 31. They started off with a delay of game penalty, followed by an illegal formation penalty. So, the have a 1st-and-20 at their own 21.
The Cardinals brought in a 3rd wideout along with their tailback and tight end. The Dolphins counter with a 3-3-5 defense. Arizona decides to have the 3 wideouts, tailback, and tight end all line up outside. On the left, Fitzgerald lines out wide, tight end Leonard Pope lines up in the slot, and Anquan Boldin lines up in the tight end spot. On the right, Edgerrin James lines up in the slot, and 3rd wideout Steve Breaston out wide.
On defense the Dolphins have Yeremiah Bell lined up on James, Will Allen lined up on Breaston, Andre' Goodman lined up on Fitzgerald, Chris Crocker lined up on Pope, linebacker Akin Ayodele lined up on Boldin, and the one safety Renaldo Hill was between Bell and Allen. On the play Channing Crowder blitzed. The blitz was not effective. Boldin went directly at Ayodele and blew by him. Since Hill was on the other side of the field Boldin was uncovered. Warner threw a pass that hit Boldin in stride. Boldin ran into the end zone uncovered and untouched for a 79-yard touchdown, that put the Cardinals up 7-0. The game was effectively over after that play.
