“I’m going to coach in the NFL next year,” Weis told WNDU TV on Saturday in his first public comments since being fired earlier in the week. “I have no idea for who. All those stories that there have been 100 teams that have contacted me; that’s a bunch of garbage. First of all, I wouldn’t talk to anyone until after I was fired.”
Weis went on to say that he won’t make a decision on his coaching future until “after the dust settles.”
Weis entered the NFL in 1990 as an offensive assistant with the Giants and rose to become an offensive coordinator, first with the Jets (1997-99), then the Patriots (1999-2004). He is close friends with Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and recent speculation has centered on Weis possibly returning to New England in some capacity next season.
