Wait, why would he leave as the OC of a NFL team that has flourished under him to go be an OC at a college program?
Gainesville Sun scooped everyone. And Mortenson has pretty much nailed it down this afternoon. Per Mort, Weis wants autonomy. In KC, Haley exercises heavy oversight. IMO, if Weis wants another college head coaching job, the UF gig is a great place to prove yourself. There's been further spec that Josh McDaniels replaces Weis and reunites with Matt Cassel in KC.
Me either Another NFL team would have given him this. Maybe even Sparano here in Miami. He is jumping too soon.
When do you finally say you're tired of "losing out" on quality pickups? This would have been huge. It hurts to know that a NFL coach picked a college team without a thought of giving other NFL teams a shot to grab him. It's worst knowing we could have been that team.
Get ready to be pissed off. It will happen, because it makes sense. It looks like we'll have to "settle" with someone who is mostly unproven. I don't think Kubiak will come here. It will be someone unknown to most of us. Just a gut feeling. I hope I am wrong.
Now do you see why I made that thread the other day about Sparano being an anchor around our necks in trying to get a quality OC here. No one in their right mind will do it, because of the tenuous nature of Sparano's job. Usually when a HC gets fired, so does the rest of the staff. No one will come here knowing Sparano has one foot out the door.
It was Weiss who decided to leave, yes. It's the Dolphin fans who lost out on his services because of that decision. He's an upgrade over Henning, you know?
Weiss is a college guy, he's said he prefers it to the NFL. What better place to go than Florida, where he'll have no shortage of great athletes to use in his system. Sucks for us, but our chances were probably slim anyhow.
I don't get it. Was Weis on a shot list of potential OC candidates or something? He clearly wants into the college game again and if he didn't, he probably stays in KC since he is having a **** ton of success there. And Kubiak is staying in Houston (which is a mistake), so cross him off the list (which DOES suck because he was an actual viable candidate if/when Henning leaves). And I don't think McDaniels comes to Miami for the reasons everyone has stated previously.
