Awesome!!! I love the pick. Sorry to anybody who wanted something different but this guy is gonna make a difference.
WTF I wasted 3 hours of my life for this crap? He would not have been there at 40? Buffalo did not want to trade up to snag claussen? Im gonna go throw up now
Odrick is good, but we didn't get better by drafting him... we're in the same boat we were before the pick. We already have two solid 3-4 DE in Starks and Langford. We had a shot at the best pure pass rusher in this draft and we blew it off.
Really Tuna??? This pick better pay off or I will have lost all my faith in Parcells...and I thought he loved linebackers... edit: Ok, I was shocked by this picked. But then I remember Bill Parcells saying that this pick would suprise us...I just hope he has a plan.
Someone on the line is getting moved to OLB. Probably Merling. This way we have a sick DE rotation of Starks, Langford and Odrick. I would have preferred a pass rusher but it was a good pick and made an already solid defensive line much better. Need to get a pass rusher at 40 now.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?sl..._the_mold_for_a_lot_of_nfl_teams_html-2010416 Sounds like he's gonna be NT for us. Most were projecting him for NT not DE. Think he's perfect for 3-4 defense.
the more i hear about this kid, the more i like the pick. can play nt and de. a richard seymore type player. not to mention we got him and also got a 2nd rounder (we pick 8th tomorrow) iam excited about the pick. hes well spoken and has a high motor. welcome to miami odrick!
I wasn't sure about this pick at first {wanted Hughes}, but after doing more research on Odrick, I think it was a very solid selection. He was slated to go somewhere around 20-25 range, and many had him going to either Baltimore or New England. I'm going to bed happy tonight!!!... ~IN TUNA WE TRUST~
The more I read about him the more I'm warming up to it. It was just really confusing the initial information that was out there, and what ESPN's coverage had about him. Saying he's a 4-3 DT, and a DE in a 3-4. If we're rotating a DE out to OLB, or if he can play some reps at NT, he'll be great. The FO seems to like players that they can rotate on the lines. Given all the injuries we had on the O line last year, it really is a huge saver later in the year
There's no reason to dislike this pick. He's a guy who can play anywhere on the line. You gotta love versatility. Starks, Langford, Merling, Odrick, Soliai. That's going to be one hell of a D-Line. All youth.
I went to Penn State for two and a half years. I will be rooting for this guy big time! Really wanted Thomas, but now I hope we land a pass rusher and Rashad Jones for FS

I live in happy valley and am glad to have him on the team...he was one of the more consistent players Ive seen play for Penn State in my time.
im not good enough to get paid to make picks.... so im not gonna make an *** of myself and cry about it because we didnt get some one i wanted.
The cowboys use Jay Ratliff (6'4, 303lb) as their NT for a lot of downs, and it works out pretty well for them. We just drafted Jared Odrick (6'5 300lb). Makes a **** load of sense. This is a fantastic pick if he can handle time at NT as well as DE. (and im positive he can) Oh and this FO makes it 3 straight big ten 1st rounders.
Great pick! He is goin to improve both our run defence on 1st and 2nd down and then probally move in on 3rd to give us a nice pass rush I think we just need to grab someone like maybe Spikes and Wright
Exactly. Now I have something to watch tomorrow. Would have been bummed if we missed out on day two early action.
You guys ever consider that maybe the team is high on Wake? Word was Parcells wanted Williams so I'm glad we ended up with Odrick. Don't like 1 year wonders like Williams. The fact they didn't jump at the chance for Hughes has to say a LOT about Wake. If they don't take a pass rusher at 40 then they really are believers in Wake. By the way guys I saw MANY mocks that had Odrick going as high as 7 to Cleveland. Was even the odd one that had him going at 5 to K.C. I love the fact that if he can be the NT we need then that will be awesome as this guy can pass rush also. So he might get a couple sacks from the nose and pick up a few more sliding out to DT in dime situations. He's our Jay Ratliff with more pass rush and Soliai will be the rotational fat guy ;p He's a legitimate Top 10 talent (Top 15 for even the most pessimistic). Miami went BPA. Isn't that what most of you preach all the time? Time to suck it up and admit they went BPA over need.
I think it's a solid pick. He gets double teamed and still is a beast. He is versatile and can possibly play NT and DE. I think they will make him into a NT and when Ferg comes back move mostly to DE. You want a great defense? He should help. The only reason people dont like it is because he's not a huge name. Who cares about who the biggest names are? He's got a great attitude and is a great player. The guy is 300 pounds and it's muscle, not fat like Soliai.
We went BPA I did want Hughes but I am warming up to this pick. He is the same size as Jay Ratliff, and if he plays like him then I'll be satisfied.
Don't understand... we have more need for a LB and Safety, I was expecting a pass rusher like many others. We'll see what we pick up in the 2nd and 3rd, and see how Odrick is used. Last year it seemed odd picking two corners in the 1st and 2nd, but that has turned out rather well.
As was mentioned above, if he becomes a Jay Ratliff type NT for us? Good pick. Remember they got a long look at the kid while coaching him for the Senior Bowl. I was pretty sure our pick was going to be Jerry Hughes, but with pick #40 coming up fast tomorrow, we still have options. I'd actually be fine if they wanted to get TE Rob Gronkowski in the second, as another weapoon for Henne is never a bad thing. Then look for a Free Safety in the third round.
Decent pick. Not a great pick like some of you say, and seem to always fall in love with whatever these guys do, but not a bad pick ala Pat White either. I dont like the fact that he's supposedly 300 pounds but looks like he's only 275-280. He just doesnt seem right now, from the film I have seen of him(which is supposed to be his best plays), to be an NFL caliber 3-4 NT. The guy seems like a good 4-3 DT. So a few years ago in our 4-3 scheme with Jason on the end it would've been nice but now....hrmmm. So in our 3-4 scheme I'd see him as a DE first and see how he does in the NT position during 3rd down passing situations. If he can hold the point well being taken on by the Guard and Center (or be good enough to provide pressure) then we can try him out at 3-4 NT during regular downs. Worst comes to worst, this kid can be converted to OLB ala Matt Roth hopefully. I just hope it doesnt take as long to develop him like it took for Roth. I also dont like the fact we used on pick on a guy that may only see the field during 'rotations' instead of an every down player. But I guess I expected as much when we dropped down to the second round almost which IMHO 28 is. Hell, as a kid, and even well into my teens, 28th was the LAST pick of Rnd 1 so really this isnt that shocking that we got BPA on our board.
When I see this guy, I see a more muscular, younger version of Jason T. not saying he is, but the way he plays his size and the way rushes to the QB. Anyone else see it. imo...
I honestly see Aaron Smith as NFL draft scout compares him to except he may be a tad larger. A nimbler Ty Warren perhaps even. If they don't pick a SOLB I would assume that means a move of Merling to SOLB which is a very large front.
Come on guys, Odrick is a decent pick. Underrated player. I'm sure we gonna have a lot of fun with him! Go Jared!
