    I think those are fair assessments even from Tobin, who I think is a little troll lots of times.

    I feared that once more than half of the board realized the season was over and it is time to gut the team and fire people that we would see a split. Those here that cannot be critical and pretend like everything is going to be okay... And those that feel the opposite... And both sides would start attacking each other.

    I really hope that we can avoid that... I know some on here are itching to get into it... It is bad enough our team sucks and another season is wasted... Don't let the board go to hell also.

    We are not all going to agree on what comes next... But I hope we can discuss it peacefully.

    Well anyone who KNOWS me and knows my posting history knows I don't want ANYTHING done with this team, not until Chris Grier is fired. I don't want his signature or fingerprints on anything else dealing with this team.

    I'm with DouglieDoWrong on YouTube. Fire Grier, bring in a new GM and let him evaluate the remainder of this season, players and coaches. If he decides its time to clean house and start anew, then so be it. If he decides McDaniel should stay and re-build properly, then so be it but the common denominator for the last 9 years has been Grier...and a common factor going back some 20 years.

    While it obviously needs to happen, I just don’t see Ross firing Grier during the season. It’s not just Ross - I can’t recall many (if any) GMs that were let go during a season; plenty of coaches, sure, but not GMs.

    Here's hoping that he’s at least preparing a list of candidates to replace Grier.

    Sadly

    I am not sure Grier is getting fired at all... This guy is like Teflon... None of the blame for all of the failures of the last 20 years sticks to him.

    As much as I want Grier to be fired... I will honestly be SHOCKED if it actually happens.

    If that is your opinion, and it is a valid concern then the LAST THING you or anyone should want is the team being gutted, not with him in charge.

    THAT would be the epitome of insanity...doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

    I would be more then surprised if that happens, that would be Grier acknowledging that he f‘ed up or Ross made sure he stays…

    Dark Knight...

    This current team format does not work... No matter who is coaching, scouting, or drafting. We are 44 million over the cap for next year... and that is taking into consideration the annual salary cap increase.

    So changes have to be made.

    Now some will say that we can restructure a few contracts... push the payments down the line to get under the cap.... And that is one possibility.

    The problem with keeping this team intact and pushing the money down the line is that we were not good enough to win last year, we are not good enough to win now, and will not be good enough to win next year. There will be no amount of money to go sign talent to try to fix the team via paycheck... (Not to mention that every time you try to fix cap problems via restructuring you mortgage away your future to do so. Getting under the cap now by pushing money screws us over down the line.)

    We have older players that are on the wrong side of 30 that can only decline... And they make too much money.

    Doing nothing and hoping for a miracle is not going to work.

    So yes I want Grier fired. Ditto McD

    But even if Grier is not fired they have to make major changes to this roster. Aging veterans and cap issues dictate major changes no matter what.

    I'm so sick of the cap worries. We were $50m+ "over" at the beginning of this season and ended up something like $80m UNDER the cap. (Plenty enough to keep Hunt and Wilkins if they had wanted to...had to get that in before the mathematically challenged chimed in)

    Stop worrying about the cap. It's too fungible to worry about. I mean, you can't sign every player to the highest contract in NFL history, but there's plenty to go around. As we've seen year after year after year for all teams when they are in "cap hell". It's extremely rare to see a team let a good player go, who is willing to accept a fair offer, because of cap reasons. Typically we see good players leave teams due to players being unhappy, players not fitting the scheme of a new coach, their coaches being unhappy with them, or another team willing to overpay them.

    The salary cap is a fluid measuring stick. The cap went up $30 million last season thanks to the revenue brought in through Amazon and is going to go up again with the Netflix deal. Not to mention the money that will be saved at the end of the season when we can let players like Long, Chubb, Armstead and Ramsey go. You can’t look at the cap in a vacuum.

    I seriously doubt you will a single person on this site that doesn’t want Grier fired. We’ve had this discussion ad nauseum for the last 2+ years. Firing McDaniel though, you’ll find about a 50/50 split, which to me is silly.

    If you have a head coach that can take a team to the playoffs 2 years in a row with a GM that’s this bad at assembling a complete roster, then you get a GM in than can build that complete roster and see if that was indeed the problem.

    Those of you who seem to think that every season should and will be a division title and a deep run into the playoffs every season until Rapture need to switch to Madden, because that’s not how sports works. It’s a game played by men that had hundreds of variables that can affect a team’s season. The fact the Dolphins are trending upward consistently, only those with video game mentality want the coach fired at the first sign of trouble.

    Except your argument for mcd fails to mention one thing... He took over a winning team...so the first year he made the playoffs with the exact same record as Flores had .. but he did it with more talent... As they brought in mostert and hill... You want to go e him credit for not improving the team at all.

    Beyond the won and loss record...it is the lack of maturity and growth... We are seeing the same dumb mistakes... The same bad coaching...years later... If you invite someone to your house and they crap on the floor you might forgive them once... But if they continue to do it... You will stop inviting them over

    Believe it or not, the season CAN be saved buying, but the right players need to be purchased if you will. I don’t trust Grier to do the shopping.

    This is why I don’t want ANYTHING done until Grier is gone.

    Ok, I’m going to press you to defend your position. You have stated several times already that when McDaniel took over, he took over a winning team.

    WHAT made the Dolphins a winning team? I’m not going to post long posts. This is going to be a dialogue.

    Press all you like... They had a winning record... 9-8 many head coaches come in and take over teams that were terrible and have records like 2-14 (Shannahan for example.) McD got to take over a team that was not in rebuild mode. He got to take over a team in "Win Now" mode... A team that was willing to spend all resources available to get to the next level...(As they were already over .500)

    9-8 is the exact same record McD had the next year (With more talent to work with.) But because we somehow snuck into the playoffs he was a genius... LMAO

    So in 2 and a half years... McD has a won loss record as our coach of... 22-19.... after this buffalo game it will be 22-20...

    He took over a team with a winning record that just brought in a lot of talent and was willing to spend a ton of money to create a window to "Win Now" and after we get stomped by the bills our record in this amazing window where we were supposed to win and be one of the best teams in football will be 22-20. The team with the best RB backfield in the game... With maybe the best 1-2 wideout combo in the game... is 22-20.... (basically .500!!!) Not Davone Bess, Brain Hartline, or Greg Camarillo.. Not running backs like Daniel Thomas, or Kalen Ballage... Actual star talent...

    Press me all you like...

    Because this is the definition of under performing. This is the definition of a young coach failing to improve.

    Ok, I asked you what made the team he took over a winning team. You didn’t respond to the question posed, so I’m going to help you out.

    In 2021, Flores’s last year as head coach the Miami dolphins were ranked as follows:

    Offense;
    22nd in points 341
    25th in yards 5219

    Defense;
    16th in points 373
    15th in yards 5738

    The 2022 Miami Dolphins, McDaniel’s first season as head coach

    Offense;
    11th in points at 397
    6th in yards at 6197

    Defense;
    24th in points at 399
    18th in yards at 5743

    So before you go beating your drum that McDaniel didn’t make a difference in the team, particularly offense, he inscrease the offensive output by scoring with 56 more points score and 948 more yards.

    The Dolphins defensive output was terrible. Although they didn’t give up anymore yards really, they gave up 26 more points. Remember, Josh Boyer was kept on as DC at the insistence of Chris Grier.

    Still no improvement? The 2023 Miami Dolphins ranked as follows

    Offense;
    2nd in points scored at 496 (+99)
    1st in yards at 6822 (+619)

    Defense;
    22nd in points at 391
    10th in yards at 5411

    So with the defense giving up the same amount of points in 2023 that they did in 2022, the team won 2 games more.

    One needs to take the totality of a team’s performance in order to determine if team is better now than it was then.

    Mic dropped

    It isn't dropped though. Again, the Dolphins beat up bad and average teams, but lost to winning teams. In games that mattered, against playoff teams, what did the offense do?

    And not for nothing if the record isn't changing then the team isn't better.

    I answered the question.... You do not get to speak for me. I made a statement... You asked me about it... and I told you why I made that statement.

    Then you said: You did not answer my question.

    Wrong... I did

    If you wanted the conversation to go another way, or did not like my answer... I am sorry... But you asked why I said it... I told you.

    Period.

    No you didn’t answer the question. I asked you what made the Dolphins a winning team. You didn’t answer. You referenced only the Dolphins record. That didn’t answer WHAT made them a winning team.

    I can see a discussion with you on this topic will be an exercise in futility so I won’t bother wasting any more of our time.

    Nine times during the season... When the ref blew the whistle for the final time as the clock expired they were leading on the scoreboard.

    You do understand how they award the "W" at the end of the game, right?

    Either they go on a unprescedented run starting with a win in Buffalo or it’s over

    That’s it.

    if Josh Allen is laughing at us at halftime then Grier and McDaniel should buy their own tickets home

    The problem is when we lose, and we have been losing... It is going to have everyone upset (Whether they want to admit it or not.) Some people will take it out on others on a message board.

    Almost all of the problems. fighting, and following others around to post (Or get in the last word) Goes away when the team wins consistently.

    We have a terrible owner, we have a terrible GM, we have a terrible coach... and the on field product is well, terrible also.

    So yeah it is going to be a lot of negativity here... and a lot of that is going to get directed towards others.

    He could do that, or, Ross can take the this time to evaluate all the candidates properly, fire everyone on black Monday and hire the new GM.

    The new GM will have plenty of time to scout the team, the draft and free agency if he hired on black Monday.

    Either way I’ll take it.

    You’re probably right that there won’t be any viable GM candidates until the end of the season, but it would be valuable to have a new GM monitor the team and players in game situations for the remainder of the season. If nothing else, it would send the message that EVERYONE is in the hot seat.

    How are you going to get an outside GM to do that? Especially if they have a job with another team already?

    Just fire Grier now. Implement interim until you figure it out.

    If everyone doesn't ALREADY know they are on the hot seat, you have a BIG problem.

    Tacos..

    I mean of course Grier and McD should feel the heat from the seat...(their arses should be on fire.) But it does not seem to matter how bad we are or how many years we under perform... Grier has always been immune from firing or even criticism.

    As much as many here hate the job that Grier has done, I bet most would be shocked if he actually got fired. We would be happy... makes posts that said: " About ****ing Time!" But we would be shocked.

    Dude, YOUR position is the untenable one. The TEAM isn't better. Maybe the offense is better...but the overall team is getting the same results.

    You want to color it as improvement, otherwise you have to admit that the team is not any better, McDaniel wasn't worth that extension, and the Dolphins aren't anywhere CLOSE to being effective in the playoffs, much less winning a Super Bowl.

    You're basically playing semantics. It's pointless.

    They played pretty good on offense and scored every quarter last game. If the defense can actually tackle someone its a win and we don't see you on the board for another week.
