I'm starting this as a way to bring some focus to what the team and front office are doing right. We spend enough time on areas that concern us. So, of all the positions or areas (secondary, D-line, receivers, etc) on the team, which one do you feel the best about and why? For me, it is probably the Front Seven. We have amazing personnel to be an attacking, athletic, versatile defense that hides it's intentions. We can easily shift guys around... Consider... Wake, one of the very very best DEs in football who does have some experience at SOLB in our 3-4 days. Dion Jordan, built like Jason Taylor, can be a hand in the dirt pass rusher on 3rd down, or roam the formation like JT used to, or play Outside LB with rush duties, whether its a 3 front or 4 front. Misi is solid depth if Jordan takes snaps at LB, and a decent starter. Soliai is a great run defender. Starks is a great gap penetrating DT who is still stout vs the run. Odrick is a great run defending DE on 1st and 2nd down and can get pass rush on 3rd down inside as a nickel DT. Ellerbe and Wheeler can drop and cover or get through the gaps or edge and make it to the QB. Like in the Steelers D, it will be hard for opponents to know which of our players will rush and which will drop. We have such versatile guys that you just won't know where the rush is coming from. I am very excited about the potential of our front seven to affect, hurry, hit and harass opposing QBs this season. Which area of the team do you feel the best about?
i agree about the front 7, but I´m excited about this receiving core including TE Dustin Keller, can´t wait to see what they can do in a real game
Honest question....if we had drafted a big name RB this year, like Lacy or Bernard, would people still feel so unsure about the RB position?
Wr's=all 3 starters have proven they can play in the league Dline=all 4 starters have proven they can play in the league Secondary=all 5 have proven they can play in the league and we have young depth, that assumes health in Grimes and Marshall Largest worries: -can the OL gel? -reshuffled linebacker corps -Tannehill's development
The fan base. We're a pretty level headed nonreactionary bunch. We don't even know how to spell hyperbowl.
I like the DL. I like the receivers, but I'm really excited to see if the secondary will be improved. If Grimes stays healthy, we will finally have a DB who has ball skills and can actually hold onto the ball and create turnovers. We may also have some better depth at that position.
That was funny tacos.... DE, easily..... Also glad were not looking at next years qb options anymore.
I'm pretty happy with most of the team outside of S and TE. That doesn't mean all those units are the best in the league or anything. It just means I like the combination of talent and potential there.
Im ecstatic about Ryan.Tannehill. I think he had the potential to be an eraser.type player...covers up your flaws Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
I would. To me it's hard to feel happy with a position filled with uncertainty and inexperience. Big name rookie or not, my feelings would be the same. There are zero RBs on the roster that have proven to be able to carry the load if need be. That's all I'm saying.
How do you define "carry the load" (lmeister: let this one go) especially in a league where most teams run by committee? Miller has proven that he can get 5 ypc in the pros when given the ball.
I'm excited about the defense. Mostly though I'm excited to see what this coaching staff can do, I think we can actually hang with the elite teams and outcoach/play the mediocre/crappy teams with the staff that we have. I don't know about the RB position and Tannehill is still growing but I can't wait to see what we can do this season. If we aren't a really improved team I'll be surprised.
Miller did that in a very limited capacity. Im just saying we have no proven commodities at RB. Hence Im not satisfied.....Im not unsatisfied either. Im indifferent because I have no real idea what we have. We cant know at this point.
Fields is good, Thigpen is good, an area for concern is he kicker position. DC has been sorta crappy, Sturgis does not impress me at all.
I'd say the front 7, that's about it. Like our previous OLs, lot of money and resources dedicated to the front 7, but unlike our OL I don't think all that money was spent in vain (though some of the high draft picks leave a lot to be desired)
I get the feeling you may mean Odrick, somewhat, when talking about former high draft picks. I think Odrick has been a victim of poor coaching moving him around too much, combined with transitions between regimes leaving him miscast. He is now beginning to play more at DT, it seems, which is a more natural spot for him, IMO. I actually expect they will use this year to groom Oddie as Starks replacement.
