Hey guys I watched Real Sports last night on HBO on a whim, because there was nothing else to watch. There was a section about ALS, and the correlation of how many sports players present and in the past who have been diagnosed with it. Non-sports players chances are something like 1-100,000, but there were 14 NFL'ers alone who had it. So they did this huge study, they asked family members of players (football, boxers) that died of ALS to donated their brains, and spinal cords. As you can imagine some did, and they found that people who have had multiple concussions are linked to ALS. When your brain has trauma of a concussion, it releases "poisoned protein", and this same poisoned protein was found in every single brain and spinal cord of the donated players...scary stuff...

The scariest part was, in the end they investigated Lou Gehrig to see if he ever had concussions. They went back and found out he had SIX documented concussions!!! Back then they didnt wear helmets, he got bonked with fastballs batting, and got a ball thrown at his head going to 2nd base that rendered him unconscience on the field. He played the next day, the Ironman Streak, and alot of doctors were saying that is probably what killed him, you are supposed to rest physically, and cognitivly after a concussion, Gerhig didnt....

Check it out guys, there isnt much on the web, as it was aired for the first time last night....
