A certain scenario is running through the old rusty trap.
What do my fellow PhinFans think would happen if say in week 9, Chad Pennington is injured, but Pat White has scored 8 Td's throwing or running in the previous 7 games?
Chad Henne is our back up, but hasn't played, what if White plays in the WildCat and is massively successful?
Do we start Henne and leave White in the WildCat as the Qb?
Pennington goes down, White is successful as a WC Qb, who replaces Pennignton?

It is Henne's job to lose as of this moment.

i voted to make Pat White the starting QB if Pennington goes down. The reason i voted that way is b/c i believe Pat White will beat Henne out of the #2 QB job. If Henne is indeed the better QB and earns the #2 QB job then he should be the starting QB if Pennington goes down, no matter how good Pat White is with the wild cat.

First, Why would anybody WANT the "next Vick"?
Second, People are way too enamoured by the WildCat.
It succeeded in ONE game and because of that one game people think it's going to become a full time offense and take over the NFL.
It wont.Colorado Dolfan, SCall13, Disnardo and 1 other person like this. -

I believe the wildcat is here to stay. The ravens were successful in stopping it b/c they focused on the run since we didn't have a real wild cat passing threat. hopefully Pat White will change that. -
Henne knows the system and Whites got some time to learn the system. If Pennington goes down, it will be Henne. He has been in a game situation before, against the super bowl Cardinals and did very well. So I will be very confident in this offense with Henne running it.
-
That to me would give White an edge, especially if Henne struggles as a Qb and we manage to stay in playoff contention. -
I voted...No Opinion...
Since I have not seen much of Henne or any of White in the NFL to make a decision...
A QB has to show me smarts and not just fit the prototypical mold... -

I voted for Pat White. If he is having success, leave him in. Let him play till he forces us to take him out.
-
I would hope Pat White can throw it to wide recievers instead of at their feet.

Pat White - Now just why would I say that? If White becomes good enough to be on the field at all then it proves to me that they think he can play. Do you really think, if Penny is in charge as he was last year, that Pat won't be picking up the base offense? Come on, this is a very smart kid, and who really knows his ceiling? If he was drafted so high to only play for 5 - 10 plays a game do any of you here think it was a value pick?
This is only MO but the WC really comes into its own when you don't have to change players and then White really comes into his own. You combine the WC and the no huddle and the D won't have a chance to ever catch its breath.
Now all of this is dependent upon White beating out Henne, or at the very least the two of them being at the same level at the start of the regular season. I'm not saying White will work out but if he does look out Chad Henne needs to be perfect. And for those who say Henne has a year under his belt, while true at this point, Pat White will be getting real game playing time and I'll take that over bench warming any time and twice on Sunday!!:wink2:
I think this is going to be one heck of a preseason. May the best man win.:up:RickyNeverInhaled and padre31 like this. -
I voted for Chad H. I see Pat White being more of a specialist role, eventiually taking on kind of a "slash" role rather than getting the job full time - IMO

Why wouldn't anyone want the next Vick? Minus the off the field issues, he was a damn good QB. Maybe not your traditional pocker passer QB, but still a good QB. He won ball games and he was tough to gameplan against.
The media is enamored by the Wildcat thus making casual fans by the Wildcat. If I talk to any casual fan here about the Dolphins they just "wildcat!!" like some idiot. They think we run it 50 times per game, when we really only run it about 5-6 times per game.
If Pennington is injured and White was outplaying Henne, I want him in there. If Henne is outplaying White, then I want Henne in there. It's that simple.gafinfan, RickyNeverInhaled and padre31 like this. -
white did well at WV, especially last year with nothing to go around him ... however, i believe he will be best utilized in the WP - IOT take advantage of his versatility.
we do know that the FO is not adverse to a 'White' with his tool set as a starting QB, as all you have to do is go back to the Dallas days ...
i do believe that they would leave it a 2 system offense led by 2 different QBs, BUT -- i can see the value of having White back there on every snap ... so that the WP becomes a threat on every down, and posing problems for the defense.gafinfan likes this. -
conversation & opinions are meaningless when the rubber meets the road
they will compete
I think Pat White was the best pick of the draft
only game-time will tell :yes:the QB Stable is one of the best in the NFL -
I mean this is all speculation, who knows, either one could go out there and light it up at the regular QB spot. But in my brain, i go with Henne.
-
Colorado Dolfan ...dirty drownin' man?
Success in the Wildcat != Success in a standard offense.
I believe Henne steps in to fill Penny's boots... -

Pointing out one game does not make a career -
White was a fine Qb for years at WVa, 4 bowls, 4 wins, career completion % over 63%, 2 Td's to one Int ration for his career.
Young was more or less a two season starter and threw for 44td's and 37 int's in those two seasons.
