what if the Dolphins come out Sunday and play another lights out tough game and roll the Detroit lions with Brock getting 300+ yards again and our offense putting up 30 points again?
Do you continue to play the hot hand and let Ryan heal up a few more weeks and give Brock a shot at growing and taking over at QB or at least providing an open competition during the season??
I know a lot of people say no it’s ryans job but many players in the NFL have lost their jobs to backups. Clearly this is a major what if.
If Brock looks lost and tosses 2 picks and 1 TD for 158 yards were not even discussing it, but what if???

For now, Gase says that Tannehill is the starter regardless what happens. We're also pretty sure though that he's going to be out at least two more games. So who knows what happens moving forward if Oz plays really well. I will add this though- I think it's about more than just points and winning. For Brock to keep the starting job, we'll have to continue to move the chains and see smart decisions in the pocket. This will be more about tempo and rhythm than anything.

Regardless of what happens Sunday, rt17 is out Thursday at Houston. Then the team has 10 days to assess before hosting New Jersey.
If brock goes out and puts up pro bowl level play in both of the games in the next week? Then yeah, he starts vs the jets. But he merely managed the game and let the players around him win it vs Chicago. And that's what I'm hoping for vs Detroit too.Dorfdad likes this. -
He provided a comfortable huddle and seemed in control something I don’t see Ryan being very good at. -
Well, we almost never win those Thursday night games so it's a huge test for this team in general. I think the Lions will fold under our run game so hopefully Brock doesn't have to do a ton there to earn the W. Houston is the triple threat though- on the road, Thursday night and a team we generally struggle against anyway.
Anyway, if we do win both then I'd hope there's at least a conversation about Brock starting. At least the next team up after that is the Jets and one of our most winnable games of the season. -
Hand the ball off to Frank or Kenyan; pass it to Albert and Kenny and hope that the OLine does its job. -

As I've said before, Gase has a nice situation in that if Brock plays well (300+ yds, no more than 1 INT to 2+TDs) he can play the 'Tanny is still healing' card and avoid any QB controversy distraction. That should work at least through the upcoming Jets game.
If Brock was still playing well I'd let him continue to start, but I'd expect Tanny to compete hard for the starting spot. NFL history says that Brock stumbles at some point during the next 2-3 games and goes back to his usual struggling ways. At that point, you put Tanny back in and hope he can find a groove. -
I've been a supporter of Tannehill, but I was also a huge fan of Brock coming out.
I think in terms of being a guy that needs the right situation he is similar to Alex Smith, who I also wanted us to pursue when he left for KC.
People seem to forget their was a lot of positive talk from Denver early in his career as well as some success.
People like to say all he does is make quicker decisions than Tannehill but lacks the physical traits. Even assuming that is true, I'll take it every day of the week. It's one of the most important things a QB can do.
That said, he needs to EARN the spot. If our offense can consistently move the ball I'd leave him in until further notice.
I'd like to believe Tannehill is an upgrade when back, but the reality is I don't think he's shown so much to make him the undisputed starter if he is out performed.Irishman, resnor, Redwine4all and 1 other person like this. -

Having said that I am coming to the belief that Tannehill isn’t a difference maker in that he can’t, for example, carry a bad OL to the SB like Russel Wikson has. Tannehill is good enough to win if the rest of the team is good and hasn’t had key players lost through injury. Basically in the NFL you can’t rely on good health, so we should be looking to find our Pat Mahomes to replace our Alex Smith. -

I don’t feel like Ryan is much of a leader. I know people lead different ways but ai really miss Marino’s fire and desire to win.
Brady has it, Rodgers has it, Brees has it you can see it in the field they command the team. Ryan just doesn’t have that quaility which we desperately need.Surfs Up 99 likes this. -
Did anyone actually watch the game?
I was unfortunately traveling on business Sunday, so naturally I see the score, come here to read about how we played and got so excited about winning with a backup QB who apparently played amazing. Then I watched the game.
What the heck did you guys watch that I didn't? Brock was captain checkdown all game. Every single person on our team played lights out EXCEPT for Brock, who threw two unbelievably stupid picks and probably should have thrown two more. Gore was unreal. Drake played amazing. Albert Wilson had a career game. Offensive line was dominant. But we're giving Brock Osweiler the credit?
You want to draft a new QB? Fine. You don't think Tannehill is good enough to win a Super Bowl? Yeah, I get that.
But Brock Osweiler? Please, no. Tannehill can't come back soon enough.texanphinatic, Irishman and resnor like this. -

Force a bad pass and get an INT
Run for his life
Get sacked like a bag of groceries
Even Tom Brady experienced this against Jacksonville...hostile environment and protection broke down...as well against Detroit.
Some of you tout quarterback so much and you forget the most basic requirement for him to be successful...the offensive line. I repeat this over and over and over again, so much so that sometimes I wonder why I waste my breath. If your offensive line isn’t protecting the quarterback, I don’t care who he is, he’s going to have a horrible day.
Ask Brady about his season opener this year against “Sacksonville”resnor and adamprez2003 like this. -
With Tannehill, here's the thing we don't know. Most passes end up being those dump offs or bombs....it seems like there's no in-between. Is that by design though as a primary read? Is he looking at A, B, C and then finding the RB as the outlet? Is it Gase saying to get the ball to Drake as one of the primary reads just to get positive yardage? Or is Tannehill just struggling to see the first three guys and taking the easy positive play?
As I've said earlier, I have no dog in this fight and I like both Oz and RT. We do know that Oz is getting through his progressions though while moving in the pocket...and we also know that's RT's biggest weakness. The real question is how much those traits matter when it comes to winning football games- does RT's big arm make up for slower reads?
So far the answer is no after one game. I am very interested to see how Brock does these next two games though and if we continue to move the chains more efficiently. If that trend stays the same, I'm going to be on team Oz. If it doesn't, then I'm team RT.Surfs Up 99 likes this. -
