The supposedly damming criticism being leveled at Pat White this year, were known last yr...

The real problem is finding room for him on the roster. Ideally he would have been the 3rd string qb, but in light of Thigpen and Pennington signings, I would be surprised. It will be one of the better stories this camp to see where he ends up. If i had to guess, I would think Pat is the loser in the numbers game and is gone.

There is more than enough room for White on the roster, if anything they knew what they were buying in 09 so why wouldn't those two fight for a roster spot?Stringer Bell likes this. -

The end truth may reveal that Pat White is just an exceptional college quarterback who's game just didn't transistion to the NFL. There have been many college quarterbacks who have fit that mold including some Heisman Trophy winners. They were great in college but just didn't meet their potential or expectation in the NFL. Look at Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf.
Who knows, maybe Pat White will eventually become what they had hoped he would, if they don't give up on him, but right now odds are agains't it. I guess right now the question might be if he was drafted as a potential starting quarterback or was he specifically drafted as an option in the Wild Cat Offense? -
Just means that's two players in that draft that they missed on......
And they had no idea what they were getting.... hell they have no idea what to do with him. Because he damn sure doesn't fit into the WC plans.....
If they continue with this WildPat nonsense, they're likely to derail any chances we have to contend.....time to quit getting cutesy and play professional football. -
edit: upon my own research, i see your talking about Murphy. gotcha. How isn't he considered our worst draft pick? -
-
I'm not ready to give up on Pat White as a player just yet. But after watching him play, and more importantly, watching Henne play, I just dont see any point in the Dolphins investing the amount of practice time and game snaps it would take to get him on the field as an effective QB.
-
Was this meant to be a supporting argument for Pat White or a damning argument to show just how ill advised our FO was to pick Pat White?
Parcells just stated he goes against everything prototypical you look for in an NFL QB and that they drafted him based on raw athletic abilities alone.
Parcells just admitted that he did not draft a QB but an athlete.
This clearly shows they in fact did draft him as suspected to be an athlete that can throw in the WildCat and NOT to be a regular F/T NFL QB.
BIG risk to take with the 44th pick in an NFL draft when you've got a team full of holes.
They got enamored with the one year wonder that the WildCat became and let it affect their normal judgement in the draft process IMO.
It is damning and Parcells admitted it.
The fact that they knew just how big a project White would be dosen't defend Pat White, it makes the pick of Pat White all the more unforgiveableBoik14, texanphinatic, MrClean and 2 others like this. -
So what was all this talk about drafting prototypical players? This whole talk of "if you have an exception at one position, you suddenly have a team full of exceptions?" Or is that what they learned from drafting Pat White, and applied it to this year's draft? Something tells me they were riding on the high they had after 2008 and got cute, figured White could bring some playmaking ability to the offense as a sort of, secret weapon. Didn't work out so well last year. Maybe he shows some stride this year, but its looking like the experiment is coming more and more pointless, especially with the wildcat losing its effectiveness and the addition of Brandon Marshall.

God help the folks on the gulf coast right now, god help the Iraqi's and the millions of people in the US still w/out jobs.
We already lived thru a 1-15 season, nothing Pat White does or does not do next year will put us in that situation again. :wink2: -

I'm glad we don't have a front office that closes the door on a draft pick after one year with a very limited number of plays, I'm glad Parcells runs this team and not a message board. Developing players takes time, we were not the only team after Pat White.

Bill Polian says the biggest improvement a player makes is between year one and year two. By year three you should know if you've got a player or not.

They already knew what they were buying, so what is the harm in letting it play out?
It's not as if they are football morons, they did land Brandon Marshall basically for a 2011 #2 draft pick.. -
Dan Jennings please stay away from the Dolphins facilities.

I think Pat White is a football player
& will hack out a spot by being a jack of all trades & king of one
only problem I see is which one @ this point & time?
His versatility will save him if the coaches will work w/ him.
having said that: he must contribute.
WR, Slot, ScatBack, Unconventional QB,
Trick/Gimmick Plays & SpecialTeams:
Returns, holder/punter w/ run/pass option,
whatever he must contribute in 2010. -

This article may help shed some light on this years draft picks:
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Diner-morning-news-A-new-draft-philosophy.html
Two signs hung in the Dolphins’ draft room last week. The first:
“For the next three days, we are going to draft prototypical players that play football well in their pads on the football field.”
The second sign:
“Mascot players, fat cats and other favorites will wait until late on Saturday.”
A return to basically grassroots drafting, sans combine, is something only an old school regime like this could pull off. We have scouts who trust their eyes and trust their hours of tape. It seems like in the opinion of Mike Lombardi this philosophy was in response to last years draft. If so it might help some of us understand the picks better from this year as well as last year. :wink2:MrClean, FinSane and Coral Reefer like this. -

Anyone who's read any of my posts on White knows I don't like the kid. Not because he's not a good athlete, but because he seems to be football stupid, despite the success he had at WV. My concerns are that if he had been drafted in the 4th-7th round, where he should have been, I wouldn't feel so disappointed. However, they chose to take him at #44, where an OLB coming into his second year would look pretty good right now. The bottom line is that White will stay because they took him so high and still have hope he'll work out. The thing is, he'll not only hamper us as a bad pick in 2009, but now he'll be the reason an RGM or Travis Ivey or Tsoumpas or a Thigpen doesn't stick to the roster... And doubly sad if it's Thiggy (which makes the most sense, if they are going to keep White) because we'll lose not only a good b/u QB but the 5th round pick we spent on him in trade as well...

IMHO, he's not a jack of all trades, master of none....just a master of none...MrClean and LandShark13 like this. -
I'm all for competition. And if White can beat out Pennington or Thigpen for a QB spot, then he deserves to be on the team. -
BUT...with a 2nd rounder invested in him, I think they have to give the kid a chance. If he is as much a competitor as has been said, then who knows...maybe, just maybe he cuts out a niche in this offense for himself. Sink or swim though, it's all on him.

i think we have to be more concerned about henne's development than the pat white experiment at qb. i'm all for white moving to say WR and seeing what he can do there possibly.
as for pat white the qb i saw enough in the pittsburgh game to last me a lifetime. -
You're going to judge White off 1 qtr? -
