DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A "GRIER CAN'T PICK HIS NOSE" Thread. This is strickly what to do with the 1st round pick discussion. Offenders will be deleted. Have fun.

After losing their 2023 first-round draft pick as punishment for the behavior of owner Stephen Ross the Miami Dolphins front office is again signaling that they might not have a first-rounder in 2024. This would mean that they either traded it away for another player(s), pick(s), or a combination of both.

There is still plenty to debate about the league snatching away draft picks from the Phins, a punishment that seems to hurt the fans more than a billionaire owner. Either way, the assumption is that the Dolphins would want to hold onto their first-rounder this year after not having one in the previous draft.

Now I for one understand trading that pick away if someone comes along and offers a deal that you just can't turn down. But what’s the point that you jump at a huge deal for a single pick and you just don’t even consider it? For me, it would be the chance to grab a generational kind of player. AKA that player that you stick on an offense or defense who then single-handedly elevates the play of the entire unit on a consistent basis over a long period of time and can at times literally take over the game via their insane level of play. Outside of that, not a single player or pick should be sacred if the right compensation for said pick is good enough or in some cases beyond belief.

So what’s your take on the fact that the front office has signaled that it might not, yet again, have its first-round pick? Are you okay with not having a first-rounder again in 2024? And if so what would it take for you to move that pick at this point? If you don’t want them to trade away the pick what would you prefer they do with that pick instead?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Grier will trade it for someone. Hope we trade down a few spots and assemble more picks.

21 might be too high for a center; I’d try to trade down and pick up a third or fourth rounder.

That's the catch right? Do you get someone who is going to be "potentially" a starter for 5 years salary control or trade it for the potential to have 3 picks instead of one since its a numbers game.

Always like more picks, unless you really want a certain player.

We need OL help and could use depth at DL/LB/CB. I'd prefer to see IOL addressed before the others.

    Slightly left of center
If we can trade down to the 27-32 range and pick up a 3 or maybe a late 2 and still pick a Great C/G I'd do that. Or if there's a Micah Parsons sitting there or a 3 down MLB who can cover TEs I'd run to the podium for that

    Draft BPA. Period.

We are not loaded at any one position where you can justify passing on the BPA anyway.

    - Draft a QB.
    - Need that power forward type of receiver, the bigger, taller, “go up and get it” type of receiver to go along with our smaller speed guys.
    - OL
    - Edge Rusher

I would not trade the pick for a player due to the salary cap mess we are in. The only way we can get back to normal is to pick and develop players. I would go best player available and hope it is a linemen.

I'd be desperately trying to trade down at least once and maybe even twice to get a couple of 3rd rounders. Then use the first 3 picks on C,G and TE.

There is still so much to unfold that it's hard to make definitive statements ... but trading down is probably what I am looking to do. If you can grab an extra 2 or 3 that would help a lot. Seems to be a nice draft with some solid depth. I wouldn't even be averse to trading out of the first round entirely if we get a really favorable deal.

OL is obviously a big need. There are some good Center prospect that are hanging around the middle of round 2 atm, but I can see them (especially the Oregon kid) going higher. A lot will depend on whether we bring back 1 or both of Williams and Hunt (unlikely, and I would prefer Hunt) and whether or not Armstead retires or is released. Currently though, I'd love to trade late first/early second and grab Powers-Johnson or Fautanu from Washington.

I also either want a strong interior runner like King Henry brought in, or to draft someone like Estime from ND or Corum from UM. Have an elite interior line and just run the ball and keep people out of Tua's face. Use the WR speed and quick release to protect our tackles.

I would be stunned if Grier drafted a running back in back to back drafts (especially if they don’t acquire more picks), but I don’t think you could go wrong with either of those two. Corum put the offense on his back in pretty much every big game this season, and nobody could stop him.

Trade back. Deep enough draft for OL and we could use a 3rd round pick too.

That would be a horrendous pick. Get a player who will actually play, please. It would be great if B tier guys like him and McCarthy go ahead of us and push some good players down.

OL or TE. If you want to win multiple championships in this NFL you need a good TE.

Nix is struggling at the Senior Bowl, according to most reports. Not crazy for any of the second tier of qbs in this draft.

I'd take the BPA unless there's a player on the board that another team is willing to overpay for.

    My personal ratings for need:

    1) LB
    2) LT
    3) C
    4) DE
    5) TE
    6) CB

For me, it's time to start shipping out frequently injured veterans and bring in younger talent. Ideally, you want a year or two of overlap and we have limited picks, so we're really looking at replacing or upgrading two potential starters here. Tight end is our top positional need but I think that has to be addressed through UFDA or later rounds.

Again, draft players whom will actually play and help us. Second tier QBs have some of the lowest hit rates, assuming they even see a field. Hard pass.

Personally as well, as much as I wouldn't do it, I would definitely take either Penix or McCarthy over Nix.

    Offensive line, PERIOD!!

Gentlemen consider this, we had 12 different starting rotations on the offensive line this season. There are 17 games in a season and in 70% of those games, we had a different starting line up on the line. That’s completely inexcusable! We were in such dire straits we were picking up the phone, “hey, wanna come play with us?”

    Jackson Powers-Johnson
    Center, Oregon.
At 6’3” 334 lbs, he could fill the position quite nicely. Finally have a natural center and not a converted guard. That leaves us options for Conner Williams; move him back to guard or release/trade him and save some cap space.

    Troy Fautanu
    LT, Washington
6’4”, 317 lbs. we all love Terron Armstead but we also know he’s getting paid to play half a season. His injury history just makes him unreliable to count on him for a full season.

Those are the 2 that pop in my head as immediate starters and solidify the OL.

Tua’s quick release helped make him one of the least sacked quarterbacks in the league but as a result of the overall poor play of the line, Tua had to often dump off to his first read rather than let plays develop as they should. If the Dolphins had an OL like the 49ers have?

We have 2 running backs that consistently average 5, 6, 7 yards per carry in Mostert and Achane but when the line can’t consistently block when it counts most, the run game is being abandoned way too early.

We’ve GOT to shore up the line. I swear to God, if we get the line truly fixed, offensively EVERYTHING else is going to fall right into place.

We can’t really point to a specific need with the free agency period between now and the draft, although the OL won’t be fixed in free agency alone. We might find one starter and a LB or TE, maybe.

I think because of our situation we can take BPA on all positions for the oline.

Round two look bpa at linebacker Oline again or tight end.

So far from what I’ve watched besides powers I don’t see any tight ends that are in the Laporta or Kincaid talent and movement level.

Nothing worth our 2nd round pick, that being said I haven’t see the penn state kid, do you think he’s that talented?

Sign and trade Wilkins to make room for the rook and don't forget to blame the contracts of Chubb and Ramsey for this unfortunate decision.
