What is new with the Ronnie Brown extension talks, if anything?
I think it is important that we resign Ronnie Brown before the season. First if we sign him before the season it is just one less thing for Ronnie Brown and the staff to worry about. Second if we dont sign him before the season and he has a probowl year he is going to be the number 1 free agent out there and he is going to want more money and I dont think Bill Parcells is going to out bid a lot of people. Third he is great at running the wildcat you cant just toss any running back in there and they will pick it up. Lastly if we dont give him an extension before seasons end I have a feeling that it is going to bite us in the butt. Like maybe the Pats throwing a bunch of money at him. ( I hope that does not happen).
So any updates?

Extention talks?
A) Front Office knows & is current on everything Ronnie Brown. Obviously, they are not convinced he is that Franchise Back worth the big contract @ this point. Ronnie has to finally have the complete, elite season if he wants to be respected as one of the top five elite RB's in the NFL & be compensated accordingly.
B) the next draft:
1 Andre Anderson TUL
2 James Starks BUFF
3 Jahvid Best CAL
4 LeGarrette Blount ORE
5 Jacquizz Rodgers ORST
6 Eugene Jarvis KENT
7 Kendall Hunter OKST
8 Bryce Beall HOU
9 Damion Fletcher SMISS
10 John Clay WIS
& free agency (in-house dispute/problems between Al Davis & McFadden) could possibly shake him lose for the Dolphins. we've already capitalized on two of their unhappy but very talented players. [/I]
through the Draft or FreeAgency we might replace a very good, over priced RB with a much better over-all deal
C) I wonder how Ricky Williams is coming along & what his performance will be this year? This could impact Browns contract too. If Ricky returns to form, he is the man. If he's lost a step & just does very well, he can still carry the team. as a Tandem Williams & Brown are amongst the best in the NFL today & will carry our running game to opponents throughout the NFL this year. no problems in our RB stable in 2009.
E) the WildCat/SingleWing offense is based on the run. any good RB will flourish in the system. the same cannot be said about QB's, that's why we drafted Pat White.
anything can happen, I'm focusing on the 2009 season & the RB stable is one of the best in the NFL today. should have a great year running behind the reconstructed & much improved Orca-5.Kanye West likes this. -
maybe its a good thing that he doesn't get signed before the season. Then he will be in a contract year, and he may give 200% and light up the league instead of the usual 100% and 600 yards.

1)the Patriots won't pay big money for a RB, would be totally out of character
but another Franchise might step up, if they really need one & he proves himself a top five (elite) RB.
2) the WildCat/SingleWing is essentially a system of play created to extract the best out of the running game. any good RB will excel in it. the problem is with the QB, that's why we picked up White. to use the system to its greatest advantage you need a QB that is a running back. You have to throw & run @ QB to keep the defense honest, only then does it become a legitimate system in the NFL & cease to be a gadget play.
I wish Ronnie well & know that the Tandem will be a powerhouse running behind the Orca-5 this year. -

Anyways , yes i think they will sign him, because he is an elite talent where all the variables set up for him to have an mvp type season and he just fits perfectly for what it is were trying to do here.
And noone can run the wildcat from a power running formation like ronnie brown, ive studied every run and i seee things in his game that seem like he was born to play that position.Kanye West likes this. -
tag him after this year, and draft his replacement to back him up for 1 year.

had a dream McFadden fell out with the Raiders right into Miami's lap

I love Ronnie but, he has not proven he is worthy of another 5 or 6 year contract at the money he is gonna want. I love Ronnie and would hate to see him go but I want to win a super bowl not just the division!!!!! -

That is obvious. Dude what are you talking about???? Every single post on here is hypothetical and someone's opinion???? That's fair...you wouldn't trade Ronnie for Brandon Marshall. Your reason is because Ricky gets hurt a lot....when has this happened.....surely you cant be referring to the broken arm and torn pec muscle..........you really don't expect him to play that way do you???
Sometimes a change of scenery will do a player good......and I can assure you Marshall wouldn't come here and Buck up on the Tuna!!!!
Brandon Marshall would make this team an instant contender!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Darren McFadden played in 13 games last year and had.
Darren McFadden
CAR 113 YDS 499 AVG 4.4 TDS 4
That is not that good.
Jonathan Stewart played 16 games last year and had
CAR 184 YDS 836 AVG 4.5 TDS 10
Both rookies -
I can't see this FO paying the big money for Brown or any RB...
These days that position is just too easily fielded...
Brown has never quite made it to the top tier of RB's to this point and has a had a few injuries.
Hope him and his agent keep that in mind when they are negotiating that new contract -
Brandon Marshall? Did you just miss the big fued between him and Joey Porter last year? That would be a distraction in it self for a young team. Plus that is not counting the times Brandon Marshall has been arested.
Who ever said Ronnie Brown wanted big money? No one ever said he wanted to be the highest paid runningback in the NFL. He just is not that type of guy. Patrick Cobbs and Ricky Williams? I love them both but they could not carry the load. Patrick Cobbs from what he had shown us he is not an everydown back and he just does not have that kind of talent. Ricky Williams is old. I dont care if you say he was out of the game for 2 years his body is getting old and his body just is not going to be able to take the beating the way it use to. -
-
I think Sparano and Co. will keep the defenses guesssing with the cat and will even take things further then they did with different personal packages and some play's we haven't seen. Either way Ronnie is our back and I am happy for the time being having him here. Ronnie definately makes us a better team. Weather or not Sparano and Co. is gonna pay him what he will want next year is another story.
For now .....GOOOOOOOOO Ronnie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

I have a good feeling about Ronnie this year. Not only has our line been upgraded, they have also had an extra year of experience together. You can especially tell with Jake and Justin (from training camp). Aside from our better O-line, Ronnie is still young, and his career carries are just over 700.
If things don't work out with Ronnie, like any other player/position on our team, our FO will fix it. Like someone pointed out, Parcells likes to get quality out of running backs in later draft round picks. -
I am not reading this anywhere it is my opinion....he gets paid or he will go elsewhere....guarantee their are a lot of teams in the NFL that could use a back as talented as Ronnie Brown
Let's just hope Sparano and Co feel the same way -

I love Ronnie Brown, my favorite player on this team. But he has yet to step out and prove in a 16 game season that he is the elite back we all think he is. I will put my trust in Ireland and Parcells to do the right thing about his contract. If he stays GREAT, if they let him walk, they will have a plan and it will likely work. I would miss him, but IMO the running game is more to do with the OL than it is with the "elite" running back. Don't get me wrong, the RB is important, I just feel the OL is MORE important.
-
Just for reference despite Brown holding out his rookie year his contract was considered subpar for his slot. However, he will go for the team that shows the money......this is a business after all. My money is on a high draft pick at RB next year, franchise Brown and regardless of what happens Ricky is most likely gone. Only way I see Brown getting his extension is on a injury free year and he tears it up.

I think our high draft picks will be spent on Linebackers next year.
