Whats up with all these teams playing panzy ball and running shotgun 95% of the time? The Pats do it and now im watching the Colts do the same panzy crap. Whats up with this?
Their strength is the passing game. Manning isn't exactly fleet of foot, so why not give him even more time to read a defense and pick his WR out. That's like asking us why we go "panzy" and use the wildcat.
LOL.. It just bugs me.. Wildcat is attacking you. Shotgun is avoid pressure and contact at all cost.. It bugs..
Shotgun is attacking you as well. As stitches said Peytons whole thing about him isn't really his footwork; but his football IQ is monstrous (an add I'm seeing says his IQ is 125. I have no idea if that's true or not but regardless his smarts are incredible). He's also a very accurate passer. Why not give him a little bit more time to diagnose what's going on with the coverages and rip you a new one with his IQ and arm?
Can someone let me know if I'm right on this. The only team that can unseat the colts from the playoffs are the pats? I was looking at the tie breaker. So yeah...Lets go Colts!
A lot of teams have trouble when their spread out and their linebackers have to cover, especially the Vikings, who are arguably the worst linebacker coverage team. That's why you see teams like the 49ers, Pats, Chiefs and now Colts do it.
Obviously because they have a good quarter back who can draw people to the secondary and get a big run or the other way around
IMO the future of the NFL will have more spread offenses. What you're seeing in college will move on to the NFL. College teams are looking for the next Tebow or the Ohio State guy (Pryor, I think) b/c teams with those kind of players are succeeding. The NFL gets 99% of their talent from college football. What kind of QBs do you think those schools will produce?
You dont need an athlete like Tebow or Pryor to run a spread. You need an accurate passer who can get the ball out quick. Personally, I think its a fad and dont think it will become a staple of the NFL. Once to many teams start doing it, defenses will load on pressure players and CBs, and defenses will figure out ways to stop it and that will be that. At the high school and college level talent gaps are so huge and the playerbase so spread out it becomes far more feasible than at an NFL level where the talent is concentrated and new schemes are constantly developed to counter. Plus, its a huge disadvantage to be a spread team playing in extreme cold or rainy conditions, why limit yourself? I think the Giants to a large extent showed how to deal with a spread team, and did so very well.
