Also, if you all remember, it was Mort who kept telling everyone Saban was headed for Alabama when everybody else, including Saban, kept saying he was staying with us.

I'd say Mort isn't going to lose any sleep about being wrong on Porter!

 

He was the one that said Saban WAS leaving ....

 

I don't think so. I distinctly remember - I think - seeing Mort on TV saying "there's still a chance he could go" even when all other signs pointed to him staying after he said "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach," etc. etc.

Anyways, who cares, it happens.

Mort gets paid to say something interesting and relevant to football, even if hes got almost no real sources, that gets people riled up and talking about, watching, or clicking to, ESPN.

Doesn't matter if you're talking about how he's always wrong, you're still talking about him. And that means he's done his job. he's not really a journalist, his priority isn't to the people. (I'm not really sure how sports writers got the term journalist added into their title to begin with, but that's another story..) It's to be a face on tv, or the internet, that people pay attention to. And even though people are paying attention just to find out what he's wrong about next, their still paying attention.

it's like Howard Stern, the guys biggest ratings came from people who hated him most. And the irony is that major news publications don't care if you like a guy or not, they just care if your tuning in. The higher the ratings, the more money they can get from advertisers, the better business goes. By posting links to articles that Mort has written, you're providing more clicks to his stories, even if it's to laugh at how wrong he is, which in turn helps him solidify his importance to ESPN.

Hey man, I'm not the guy frantically scouring the internet for anti-Mort articles. He gets some right. He gets some wrong. He covers his *** by using the qualifiers "likely" and "I've been told that...". Big whoop.

Mort started off really well and then someone gave him the title as the top NFL Insider.......it's been downhill for him ever since.

 

You're like a little dog that won't let go of my ankle. My posts are consistent and speak for themselves. They all revolve around the the idea that we all get stuff wrong and that its not really a big deal. If you want to characterize that as a defense of Chris Mortenson, that's cool with me.

If i was a reporter i would have more integrity, and try to earn a reputation correctly...he's a reporter, not an analyst.....report, dont analyze and project.
