Where does Henne rank among current starting QBs?

sorry. maybe should have used a different term but what I meant was still playing at a HOF level as in Peyton or still capable of playing at a HOF level as in Brady. Favre will likely be in the HOF but certainly isnt playing at that level anymore

 

Actually, no. Last year the fan base and local media wanted to tar and feather Pat Shurmur. His play calling sukked, he did not know what he was doing, I CAN CALL BETTER PLAYS then him. You know, the usual remarks from fans and media in regards to a losing team. The only big change on that team this year is at QB. Jackson still go loads of yards last year but Marc Bulger was either shell shock or just plain lost it, do not know. St. Louis fans, media and the team, made excuses for Bulgers performance, season after season. The Oline, the WR, the playcalling, everything. Then they finally released him and drafted Bradford.

The kid has basically the same team but his WR have gotten injured game after game after game. Granted, they have the 31st easiest schedule in the NFL and have only beaten one team that has a winning record, Seattle but just the same. Sam Bradford is doing things as a rookiie that Marc Bulger could never hope to do.

One thing I learned about football, if a player has " it " they have it early on and its noticable. Yes, in some rare instances a player comes out of nowhere but rule of thumb is for a QB, its noticeable right from the get go on how far they can go up the ladder of being really good.

Henne , as of yet, has not shown me, at least thats my opinion, of anything possible that he can do better then he is doing right now. Of course if fans are happy with 7-9 or 8-8 or even 9-7 seasons, then Hennes the guy. I and again, I pray I am wrong, do not see Henne taking any team to the next level of competition. I am not a coach, this is just pure opinion of the regular everyday Joe fan. But I will say, his likeness of the way Bulger progressed is almost a mirror image and thats a scary thing to think of.

If it does turn out to be that type of scenario with Henne I certainly pray this team will realize that and move on.

 

Shurmur has done some good things IMO. Having Bradford has helped but Shurmur's called some good gams this year.

 

henne showed it to me in last year's first monday night gm vs the jets. its all about flashes the first two years. year three as a starter you have to be just about complete though. he's still improving which gives me hope he will be a complete qb by the time the learning process is done. bradford has a strong run gm to rely on. henne doesnt this year. how much better would henne look with jackson and how much worse would bradford be with our rbs?

 

This year and believe me, he could mix it up why ? Bradford. Last year it was 8 or even NINE in the box every play. The teams dared Bulger and Boller to throw, they PRAYED they would throw the ball.

Shurmur is a good OC but like I said, go back to 2009 ? Yeah, the fans wanted to flog him often and it was because he had no other options but Steven Jackson Right, Steven Jackson left and Steven Jackson up the middle. Bulger had two cement buckets on his feet, Boller could not hit a 45 ft. tractor trailer even if it was stopped and the WR were, well, there weren't any. The top two were lost for the season by the 2nd game. They relied on a rookie and ps PLAYER and another they took from a PS.

Amazing how a good QB makes an OC and HC look good, no You tell me what Indy would look like without Peyton Manning, mediocre to say the least.

 

Every coach is made by his athletes to some degree. That's an obvious. As I said, Shurmur's called some good games this year and you don't seem to disagree with me..

 

Oh I agree, would trade both Ricky and Ronnie in a heartbeat for Steven Jackson. Jackson is not even getting the holes this year, most of his yardage is on his own to the outside. Just the same, Bradford is head and tails above Henne in the talent dept. Crap, the kid did not even play his sr. year in college, has his arm stiched on with fishing line and still goes number one overall in the draft ? As far as progression with Henne, how many seasons does it take to see results ? Like I said, wish he turns into something very special. Guess patience is not one of my strong suits.

Again, one seasons from now, Henne , lets say, progressed some but we are still 0-7 8-8 how many more seasons do you put into him ? 1-2-3 more seasons of progression ?

 

I am not disagreeing with you on this year because Bradford made the major difference. You seem to discount the fact that last year, without Bradford and basically the completely same team with Bulger at QB, the offense did not work. You do not seem to agree with that point. Major difference ? QB. They wanted Shurmur fired last year.

Take Bradford out of the lineup and insert Marc Bulger again ? the team would be 0-8 again. Bulger was a complete failure at all levels last year and Boller was , if you can believe it, worse.

 

with qbs its really about three years starting. first year you see what they got. second year is usually a sophmore slump as defensive coordinators make them play to their weaknesses and by the third year you hope your QB has put most of it together and can handle most situations. we'll see with bradford as they start scheming him differently. he is more accurate then henne. but henne is tougher IMO. We'll see how long Bradford stays healthy

 

I didn't say anything about last year lol. You are the one that brought it up. I merely stated that Shurmur has called some good games this year. And yes, athletes make a difference, that is obvious and applies to all teams.

 

18) Henne - I thought he would be higher, but I simply cannot put him ahead of any of the guys I've already listed. That said, he's shown flashes of being a Top 10 QB at times. He just needs to do so more consistently (and lead the Dolphins to the playoffs sooner than later).

I thought 18 was about right.

 

I've watched him in the NFL and in college (several times and charted his throws).

You'll see a ton of drops as well.

 

I hope you're not talking about Mark Clayton when you say "solid if not spectacular".

 

I think that says more about the group at his position than it does of himself. There was not much talent behind him in Baltimore IMO and that appears to be the same in St. Louis.

He is not consistent IMO. He doesn't really get in the end zone, as he has four touchdowns in the last two years.

Every quarterback has some errand throws. However, to call him inaccurate is misleading IMO.

I don't think anyone here said he was a top flight QB. It would be too soon to say. However, the guy most certainly has the talent to be and he's certainly flashing it.

 

Clayton played less than 3 games for the Rams I believe (and he performed pretty well considering the transition). But as I said, he played 3 games. The Rams have had their like 3 best WRs (certainly best 2) go down with season ending injuries. I wouldn't be talking up Clayton as a reason Bradford should be doing better.

 

All but Dilfer (and maybe Johnson) on your list were considered top-10 QBs when they won. You have to account for what QB standards were in the day if you're going to use those names for comparison. Namath's stats look crappy today, but at the time he was near the top

AdamC13 makes a somewhat fair point - look at all the QBs who won the superbowl - even just the last twenty years. In fact - in all but four Superbowls ('07, '03, '00, and '99), even the losing team's QB was considered "top 10" at the time

 

That's the beauty of winning a Super Bowl. The media will hype everyone on the winning team, especially the QB. The point I was trying to make is that you don't need a "great" QB to win a Super Bowl.

And out of some of the losing QB's: Morton, Kapp, Kilmer, Ferragamo, Jaworski, Woodley, Eason, Esiason, Humphries, O'Donnell, Grossman.....Which ones are you saying are or were top 10?

 

What is wrong with you people? Garrard and Cassel are NOT poor QBs and ARE better than Henne. Currently at least.

Matt Cassell is not very good, from what I've seen.

 

i would take henne over both of them. saw quite a bit of cassell early in the year and he was horrible. maybe he's improved but i doubt by that much. garrard never impressed me but i havent really watched that team this year

 

Cassell blows and Garrad sucks.

 

Let's offer Henne for Garrard and see how long it takes for Jax to smile from ear to ear and say YES....... after Jax first thinks to themselves: "Is Miami seriously doing this straight up, or are we giving up a 1st round pick along with Garrard?"

 

I really get the feeling that alot of you guys on here either
A) only watch highlights and read boxscores
B) only watch the dolphins
or
C) don't watch alot of football PERIOD

cuz alot of you seem to have the "the grass is greener on the other side" mentaility and don't realize that Henne is playing pretty damn good

he's not an elite QB, at least right now he isn't
but to say that guys like Garrard or Cassell are better are just stupid

he's in the upper half of the league as far as QB's are concerned

I watch 6-7 games a week, with a game on the tv, and one streaming on my laptop beside me
plus a switch back and forth on halftimes and commercials to other games
I have watched every team play this year. with a few teams more than others
and I can HONESTLY say that even with his mistakes, he is STILL better RIGHT NOW than half the league

he's got the dolphins at 4-3 in a very tough division and with one loss that is very questionable(pitt)
he's really only had 1 bad game.

He's in the top half in most of the pertinent stats, has a winning record and has played pretty solid overall
even with all the drops and the extremely conservative play calling.

 

Very much agree. I'm in NC so I have to watch Miami play from a sports bar. I have the benefit of 5 TVs in front of me..... and I usually stay for the 4pm games too.

I have yet to see a QB play every game at a high level..... and have yet to see a QB not have an erratic performance (Brees & Manning included).

Henne played Rodgers at GB and Aaron was not legitimately the best QB on the field that day. He played Roethlisberger, and both were pretty even. Henne vs Palmer and Chad was the better QB. Chad's performance was equal or better than Sanchez's, and he was having a better game than Brady before our Special Teams fell to crap. He was also the best QB on the field vs Buffalo & Minne.

 

Unfortunately this list lost some validity at number 1. Manning is the clear numbers one quarterback in the league and will be untill he retires. I like hennes spot as of now, i actually might even move stafford ahead of him...the kids good. I see Henne moving up with time though.

 

How is Phillip Rivers like Dan Marino? Is it because he doesn't have a ring?

 

Can't agree with a list that has Brees behind Eli Manning. Also, IMHO, Carson Palmer is pretty far from a top 10 QB at this stage. I have no huge argument with the general placement of Henne on your list, but I'd take Henne over Palmer at this stage any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
