the Tandem is the best in the NFL
if the Orca-5 play to expectations, our running game will be the premier ground game in the NFL

Well 23rd, ive never seen the miami dolphins with a lethal running attack in all my years of being a fan, ive always wanted one of my own..iam not sure about being the premier one, cause i think that takes a few years of everyone being on the same page {giants}, but i do project ronnie to be around 1500 at the end of the year. so i would be happy with top 5.

I do believe with the trio that we have, were close to being the best overall running back unit in the league, i think dallas for me is the best..Barber and felix jones are very impressive athletes..i think that the combination of smashmouth with barber and the diversity that a felix jones can bring to the table {wildcat executioner} along with their oline, they are the projected premier tandem imo.

We can sign him midseason. This way, If he is having a great year, we resign him. If not, we let him go.

I'll tell ya this, if ronnie has an mvp 1st half, then i sure would like to be his agent, because whoever that is, will be clamoring for the biggest contract ever for a running back. and i say that because of how i feel the wildcat is going to impact this game.

Just in case anyone forgot, Ronnie brown made the probowl last year...voted in by his peers.

I don't know about that, there are better RB combos in the NFL. What we have is good, but Ricky isn't what he once.

But it is better than signing him before the season begins, then not having him perform up to expectations. Unless you can get him for a bargain of course, which I doubt.

That's the thing. We can't take any risks dishing out contracts. A player with Ronnie Brown's injury history and lack of elite production doesn't deserve a contract that he'll warant. That is why, say November, If he is producing at an elite level, then I wouldn't mind resigning him. But right now it's to risky.

You saying "you would'nt mind resigning him" tells me all i need to know.

He is the centerpiece of the franchise.

He is the frontman for a new scheme that is ultra effective and brings publicity to the franchise.

    He is 100 healthy.

He is an elite football player, no matter how anyone wants to spin, the man is an elite football player.

No one player is the centerpiece of this franchise.

I went into Ronnie's injury history in another thread, I don't think it's anything to worry about. 2 unavoidable injuries does not a injury prone player make. The only other injury that the guy has suffered was an ankle injury in his rookie year that caused him to miss one game (the other game he was inactive/reserve), and lets not forget that he held out of camp and that may have played a role in the injury.

As far as lack of elite production, just to be fair, you have to take into account how the player is being used instead of just looking at numbers. Even if Adrian Peterson was on this team, he wouldn't be putting up the same type of numbers that he does with Minny, he would be a part of a 2 RB system and his numbers would reflect that. The simple fact that a RB is used less frequently in a system doesn't mean that players at the position are interchangeable or less important, it still takes a player with exceptional ability to produce when called upon. So I don't see an issue with signing Ronnie to a contract comparable to some of the more productive backs in the league, when you have a player who shows that he has elite ability, you do what it takes to keep him around.

Understand and understood... He is the most feared player on this offense, which makes him the centerpiece in terms of his value.

You dont let your most feared player who is in his prime, is healthy, and has no character concerns, play in limbo imo.

I can deal with a midseason extension but thats as far as i go, i do not gamble by letting this man play out the whole year without one.

I'll give you the freak injuries, because they were, well, freaky. But then theres the durability issue. Coming out of Auburn, we knew he probably couldn't handle alot of carries. So, obviously, his production is going to be low. So, why sign Ronnie Brown, who will put up good but not elite numbers to a big contract, when you can easily find his replacemant in the draft for a much cheaper price? I don't see why we have to sign him ASAP.

If he takes a contract that's affordable, then I would have no problem signing him. But I fear he will ask for a heavy contract, and I don't think we should give it to him. Especially when we can find his replacemant for a much cheaper price.

BTW, Dj, when I mean replacemant, I mean as a runningback, not as the WildCat captain. Besides, we have Pat White to run the Wildcat now, so that makes Ronnie Brown's departure less painful.

Reread my post you quoted, and tell me where I, in any way, compared Sayers to Brown. It's not there. What I did say is that determining a player's dominance through the analysis of statistics alone is a fallacy, and that Sayers was a great example of why this is true. The only inference I made was that this same logic could be applied to the evaluation of Brown. That's it. Try reading before letting your fingers hit the keys next time.

"so why sign ronnie brown"...."you can easily find his replacement"... "for a much cheaper price"..........those are statements that do not respect the mans talent.

By these comments {which baffle me} I dont think your properly quantifying his talent, or the direction of this offense, or his impact in this offense.

I hope some people like crow, because iam gonna serve some up after Ronnie punks defenders all season long....I like mine medium just so you know.

I think we as fans should be grateful for his talent, for the fact that hes a miami dolphin, and his ability to execute and be a major part of a innovative offense that he is built to run and execute from a power formation. This man is THEE MOST DIVERSE RUNNING BACK IN THE N.....F.....L. RESPECT IT.

Calm down Dj. I'm not "disrespecting" Ronnie Brown. I just stated facts. He has not put up elite numbers. He does NOT deserve a contract that pays him top money. Like I stated, IF he puts up great numbers, then he'll get his contract. If he doesn't, then he won't.

And his production so far can be replaced. His highest yards total is 1008. Highest TD total is 10. We can draft a runningback in the second or third round, pay him much less, plug him behind a great offensive line, and see the same results.

I can find 30 guys then can run for a thousand yards behind a good offensiveline...Does that mean i want them over ronnie brown......no, i dont, not even close.

I'll tell ya what you'll get if you put a cheaper younger player in this system, and ask him to do all the things that ronnie can do {because we've seen it with our eyes}, and will be asked to do {because we know where this offense his headed}, which is something that your stats are not taking into account.

Imo, it will get you a team that you cant call a division champion.

amazing to me how some can just think that a player with this kind of skill can be so easily replaced. I wont say be careful what you wish for because i know your smarter then that, but being so easy to dismiss the talent {by thinking he can be so easily replaced} and how it projects, will get you regret. jmo.

Dj, I'm not trying to dismiss what Ronnie can do. I know what he is CAPABLE of. He is a great pass catcher, tough runner, and an amazing pass blocker. Hell, throw in being a great leader and classy guy in there, too.
What I'm talking about is production, results. So far, he hasn't produced at an elite level. But, he still might ask for a big contract, which he doesn't deserve, IMO. If he asks for a reasonable contract, I would love to resign him, ASAP.

were just fundamentally apart in our thinking...for me he has produced at an elite football player level, and if iam the gm and i recognize that, then its my job to surround that elite player with the proper variables and system to flourish, and capitolize on that elite talent, and If iam the gm, i also recognize ronnie brown has not had either of those things {proper variables, system to flourish} in his carreer....until last year.

waiting for the elite talent that is 100 percent healthy to provide you with stats is a form of procrastination imo and lack of what is required in building a championship team...risk is involved in the team building business, thats why the GM's get paid the big bucks, to project based on what their eyes tell them. their talent is that of an executive producer.

Every first round pick will be paid huge contracts based on nothing but projection. I think by midseason at the latest, after seeing what i feel confident that you will see, he will be locked up for a big contract, regardless of his knee injury, or the fact that he couldnt put up huge numbers with the cards that he was dealt in the past {bad oline, lack of carries when healthy, horrible qb's, constant offensive system changes}.
