http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/watchdog/blog/2009/03/adam_schefter_has_disappeared.html Seriously.. If NFL Net lets Schefter go it has got to be one of the stupidest moves in tv..
Maybe they see Lombardi as his replacement. Lombardi, I assume, has twice as many contacts as shefter anyways. Regardless, It would be very stupid for the NFL N to let Shefter go.
He is holding out while negotiating a new contract. Apparently, he gets paid WAY less than Jay Glazer and Chris Mortenson while being on camera much more, so he wants a salary similar to what they make. Of course, as the NFL has proven in their negotiations with cable companies, they are willing to cut off their noses to spite their faces, so I would expect to see Schefter employed elsewhere after his current contract runs out.
The writer says they're pretty far apart on a contract extension. So money's an issue. However you'd think he'd need to work to earn a paycheck. Perhaps they're indeed looking to fill his shoes with Lombardi, though I think he fits more of the Charlie Casserly role at CBS, rather than the Jay Glazer (FOX), Chris Mortensen and John Clayton (ESPN) roles. Lombardi has National Football Post, and that's where his #1 priority lies. His stuff also appears on CBS Sportsline (via NFP). It would seem like Schefter would like to stay on TV. NBC Sports has weekly TV coverage, but Peter King is sort of that guy. And they have a relationship with SI.com for content. NFLN is the place to be, as your face is on TV seven days a week and you're writing for the league website. Schefter is synonymous with that network. I think it'd be a mistake for the NFL to let him go. He's a bird dog and they really don't have anybody else like him writing for NFL.com.
So the richest sport in America can't pay one reporter the equal amount his peers are making (not to mention is better than)? Well that's sad.
Schefter is heading to ESPN, according to ProFootballTalk.com. Until his contract expires, he won't be doing... I guess anything. It sucks. He was awesome on NFL N, I don't know how they'll replace him and now ESPN has the best in the business, they can fire Mort and Clayton (hopefully).
that'd be a good look for ESPN. they need someone who will break news, and actually get the information correct. Adam S is the best in the business
I like Clayton and dont mind Mort at all. The only one I really hated was Sean Salisbury and hes been gone for awhile thank god. Not a big fan of McShay either really.
Wow. Can't believe they'd let him walk. It isnt like they don't have the cash and he seems like a reasonable guy.
I thought the NFL Network was struggling? That could be a reason why they couldn't pony up the cash. I know this, if they were struggling before, they're really going to struggle now. One of the main reasons I watched was because of Schefter. They do have a pretty good guy in Sam Wyche. I wonder if they'll go after a guy like Michael Smith or one of the other guys at ESPN.
I hope they can work things out. I really enjoy Adam with NFL Network. I like what he brings to the table. I think he does a great job on his draft day coverage as well.
No, I'm not kidding. I don't particularly care for the guy either, but he does break some stories on ESPN and he does have some good connections. He isn't one of the "top dogs" on ESPN's football pundits and might be a guy they can replace Schefter with on the cheap. Is he as good as Adam Schefter? No, but they have to replace him with somebody.
Of course he is, but they have to replace him with someone. They have Wyche on their now and he might be someone their thinking of to replace Schefter for cheap.
