Lots of talk about the incredible depth of this years wide receiver draft class. (Maybe even slowed down the free agent Wideout market)
In just the last two drafts. The 2nd round has produced stud receivers AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Chase Claypool, Tee Higgins and Deebo. (Pretty high hit rate)
Let’s assume Chase, Smith, Waddle and Bateman are 1st rounders...
1)Which guy not talked about in that top tier, do you think is going to hit big and be a steal!?
2) Would you be OK with doubling up on Pass catchers with early picks (Like OT last year) given Parker, Preston, Fuller and Wilson are all free agents next year?
A lot of interesting candidates;
(I know a couple could end up 1st round picks)
Kadarius Toney - Florida
Tutu Atwell - Louisville
Rondalee Moore - Purdue
Terrace Marshall -LSU
Dyami Brown UNC
Amari Rogers -Clemson
Amon-Ra St.Brown -USC
Elijah Moore - Miss
Tylan Wallace - Okla state
D’Wayne Eskridge -W.Mich

I don't think that the Fins have a whole lot of freedom and opprotunity to really look in that direction, unless they trade for more picks. After #50 in the 2nd round, all we have is #82, #157, and two 7th rounders.
I personally badly want a RB at #36, and would like to see a center, or perhaps a defender at #50. So unless we take a WR at #82, it might not be in the cards.Irishman and Pennington's Limp Arm like this. -
I think once we address WR/TE at 6, we need to find a pass rusher, C and RB. A 4th or 5th WR seems like a luxury even though Fuller is only on a one year deal and Parker can’t be trusted to stay healthy.

Still possible Grant and/or Wilson could be cut too.
Guess I’m searchin for any excuse to end up with Dyami Brown or Elijah Moore!
Those are the 2 I think people are going to look back and say were really underdrafted.
Moore averaged 11 catches for 149 yards and 1TD last year. PER game! I watched some of his pro day and he moved so fluidly and was smooth catching the ball. Made it look too easy!
Watched a couple UNC games last year and Brown always stood out as explosive. Then you see numbers to back it up like 50+ catches and averaging over 20 yards per catch. Only player to ever do that twice as an underclassmen.Last edited: Mar 28, 2021 -
I'm crossing my fingers for Pitts at #6, and then expecting that the team will likely look for other long term depth a year from now.

I’m of the opinion that we add pieces to our offense to help Tua but add 1-2 pieces on defense to go from very good to elite/great.Irishman and Pennington's Limp Arm like this. -
Some would say that our depth at WR is a strength of this team:
-
Williams part was funny.
He is the tallest receiver on the team. ‘Some people say he is a stud and others say he sucks... whatever.’
Haha gold. -
...but they just can't stay on the field. We ended the season with starting Gisecki, Ford, Hollins and converted quarterbacks, just because all that great talent we have couldn't stay healthy. Look at 2019- same story. 2018- pretty much, the exact same story again. Grant, Parker and Wilson miss time every single season. Williams is also 0/2 in completing a season, missing a chunk of time both years. And Will Fuller, who I know next to nothing about, hasn't played 16 games in a season recently either.
My thinking is that we can't have incredible depth at WR because you just can't afford all of them once their contracts catch up with the team, but I'd let Parker walk and probably Grant too. That pains me to say because Grant is one of my favorite current Dolphins, he really is, but the man just isn't reliable enough outside of special teams.
Personally, I'm high on Chase since he's a stud on film and has an NFL comp as "a bigger, faster, stronger Jarvis Landry." But where does he fit? Do you finally end the Parker experiment for him? Do you hang Fuller out to dry before he even takes a snap in Miami? That's why I see Sewell or Parsons as the logical #6 pick, they fit somewhere as an instant upgrade. On paper, those rookie WRs are probably better...but they're not overwhelmingly better like comparing Pitts to Gisecki.
It really is a tough call, but I don't think the franchise sees it the same way as most of the folks here do. Because it's not about what we see...that doesn't matter at all. It all comes down to what our front office sees.Irishman, OwesOwn614 and Pennington's Limp Arm like this. -

I think that this is an Inception question because it is a question within a question.
Are we looking for boundary guys or slot guys?
Looking at our current boundary guys - Fuller and Parker - and I think to myself, "I do not really think these two guys have a lot of the front office's confidence in them. I very much think that Grier sees them year-to-year."
Fuller is literally on a one year deal.
Parker is getting reasonable money. He is undoubtedly our best WR, but I get the feeling that Grier would gladly replace him if given the opportunity. I tend to think that Parker has benefited from our best, reliable option.
I could see scenarios where Parker and Fuller are both back next year, one of the two are back next year, or neither are back next year.
I think if the pick is Pitts, we should be eying boundary corners to shore up the position.
Now, if Chase is the pick, I'd think that we are gonna be alright at boundary for the next two seasons. I think at that point, we are looking to shore up the slot.
I see Toney as a guy who would really work well with Tua, but I have a feeling he is not making it out of the first round.Pennington's Limp Arm likes this. -
If we take a WR or Pitts with our first pick we are good. Fuller, Williams, Parker, Grant, Wilson, Hurns, Bowden Gesicki, Foster, and Hollins are all still signed this year. I think Parker, Fuller, Williams, Gesicki, our first pick plus either Wilson, Grant or Hurns is a damn good core. Just need a little line help and a great RB.

No consistency in where he gets mocked. Anywhere from 20 overall to the 3rd round.mlb1399 likes this. -
I've said for a few months now that Toney would be high on my list for receiver, but a few months ago he was being projected in the 2nd/3rd round (so was Trask, for that matter...he also might go late 1st now). I've been hoping all along that we ended up with Pitts, Toney and then Trask as a project QB, but it no longer feels realistic given how the boards are shaking out.
Don't sleep on Toney though, he's a sensational playmaker and a big part of Trask's incredible year.mlb1399 likes this. -
