I onlly say that because he only played a year of college football and at a small college too, but CK's evaluation sealed the deal for me personally.
A slot receiver with the capability to play outside too, with his physical tools size, strength, speed, quickness, does have a pretty high ceiling of potential. However his inexperience could work against him unfortunately. Hogan is all about through the roof potential though.
I think when so many players have said positive things about a guy (i.e., Hogan), he pretty much has to make the team to maintain the integrity of camp. You want guys in future camps to battle it out harder because there is the perception among them that guys who stand out in camp have a definite chance to make the team. You don't want the whole thing to be perceived as a farce, where no matter how well you play, you still can't make it. That would just lessen the intensity of your position battles and soften your camp overall.
Could be coaches are going a lot by practices too. Maybe they consider he and Pruitt pretty well set, which is why we didn't see much of them vs Carolina, and the coaches wanted to see how the other WRs stacked up a little better.
Bro, I edit video for a living. That's why I discredit it as nothing more than entertainment. I'm sorry if I came off as a wiseass but it just kills me to see people buying into it so much. His'nBeatYour'n was posting about this earlier and he does the same thing for a living (or at least he use to). I would think that our opinions wouldn't simply be dismissed considering it's something we do professionally. You don't have take my word 100% or anything but at least bring it into consideration that HBO is selling a story here. I am just trying to at least get people not to get their hopes up because of what they saw on Hard Knocks. HBO shoots over 100 hours of footage each week. They can make anyone look good or bad. Cut out Les Brown's poor blocking and throw in some nice catches... change those soundbytes to the positive ones because you know there are a few in there. You can bring up soundbytes but you can manipulate them as well. When you interview someone, the interviewer will always direct them into a path that they want them to walk into. They aren't always looking for the answer as much as the answers they want to hear. Considering that HBO has some of the finest cinematographers and great editors... you can't put it past them. Hard Knocks is a great thing, I am not denying that. It's an excellent way to get to know the personalities of your team and storylines... but it's still reality TV. It's not scripted but you have enough footage to really decide the story arc. I watch Hard Knocks and I do enjoy it... but I'm not basing my opinion on someone's play on the show.
I voted these guys: Davone Bess Brian Hartline Julius Pruitt: Special Teams and is our third best WR based on games from last year to now. Clyde Gates: The only burner we have. He doesn't have to catch them all, just one or two to be effective. Jeff Fuller: I think he has a high upside and is our QBs most trusted target. If there's a sixth, I'd say Naanee, if not, but something can be done with an IR list and Hartline, then still Naanee. If they keep six and Hartline can go on some kind of IR, then Naanee and Matthews. This entire post was made with the stipulation, I don't know **** and am talking out of my ***.
Where did I say I'm basing my opinion just off HK? Your the one who decided to shortchange me and insult me.
After 36 votes, we have, in this order: Bess Hartline Naanee Pruitt Matthews Hogan ...with Fuller next. Interesting that Wallace, Moore, and Gates have fallen so low for so many.
I'm sorry that I misread your thought process. It's been a subject that has been up for debate for the past week or so please forgive me if I jumped the gun on your opinion towards the matter.
I understand and appreciate that. So you are going by practice reports and the 2 games. Even doing that I'd think Hogan has to be given strong consideration for making the team.
Looky at Mister Fancypants thinking he don't gotta vote, like the rest of us. What's a matter, city slicker...you yellow?
I ended up voting (since a poll is actually up), but I'm only remotely confident on like 3 of the choices. Lock: Bess Near Lock: Hartline and Naanee Good Chance: Pruitt Hit or Miss: Wallace & Fuller These are not the 6 I would keep, but just based on where people have been practicing, game alignments, special teams prowess, and the depth chart is how I am guessing (likely in that order). Moore would be my next likeliest after Wallace and Fuller, followed by Matthews, and then Hogan. I can't see Gates making the team sadly (hope I am wrong). Not even over the drafted rookies. I want to say I see Cunningham as destined for the PS, but I wouldn't keep him over either Matthews or Hogan, and I can't see us having 3 WRs on the PS.
Not saying he can't make the team but I just think if we stashed him on the practice squad he wouldn't be stolen right away. Maybe down the line when guys get put on IR and what not but not right away.
I tried to pick 6. I just couldn't at this point. May be able to after Friday. But its to close to call right now. Also, everything shown on Hard Knocks about Hogan was coaches and team mates bringing him up. There were no interviews to manipulate. You can't manipulate 2 coaches and your GM in 45 seconds of film talking about how well he had played thus far. Do I think he makes the team? I don't know. I hope so.
Just pick 5 or 6 you think based on what you know as of right now. We can have another poll after 1st cuts.
voted... Fuller... because he's RT's boy Gates... because he is faster than fast Hogan... 7/11 makes it Matthews... He's actually the most impressive to me out of all the receivers not named.... Bess... Best Wallace... safe, solid... and promising Why no Hartline? He either gets traded (to the Jets, don't laugh) or is on the IR Naanee? I reserve my right to change my vote after Friday's game...
This race is very difficult to handicap. Hartline hasn’t sniffed the field since the 1st practice. Bess and NaaNee have been making cameo appearances to this point and coach Philbin singled both of them out as top camp performers today. Pruitt made 6 catches in game 1 with 4 or 5 first downs and didn’t take a snap at WR in game 2. Roberto Wallace was tagged “ankle weights” by a coach yet leads the team in yards (82) yards/catch (16.4) and is 2nd in catches (5). Matthews is the only WR with a TD and you have to love how he finished the play. Fuller is tied with Pruitt for the most catches. I’m also curious where Thigpen figures into the mix. No snaps on offense in game 1. No carries in game 2 but 3 catches for a 40 yards in game 2 (13.3). http://www.nfl.com/teams/miamidolphins/statistics?team=MIA
Picking just for today. Unless Hartline starts the year on the new IR, I would say Hartline, Bess, Nannee and Pruitt are locks. I picked Matthews after. Then I cut it down to Moore and Hogan. I think they are similar, except Hogan is bigger and Moore has had a chance to prove himself with the Dolphins and hasn't been able to hold onto the ball. So I chose Hogan.
Thigpen is ineligible for the poll until they switch his position. But he didn't get any snaps in game 1 because he was held out due to injury. Leading up to game 1, he had been making plays in practice if camp reporters are to be believed.
The truth is NO ONE has emerged as a reliable redzone threat at WR. Whoever does THAT in THIS game has the inside track.
I think you keep either Wallace or Fuller, not both, and you give Hogan the other guy's spot. I think Hogan offers a lot of versatility at WR with his mix of athleticism and route-running, not to mention his special teams play.
I am more in agreement with you than I think the coaching staff will be. I am keeping Fuller over Wallace (as of today) if I am picking guys.
If you look at Jeff Fuller's college game tape, he was a definite threat in that area. Whether that has translated to this level as of yet (i.e., in practice), I don't know.
We have a vote for BJ Cunningham! Very interesting to me that Fuller, Matthews, and Hogan -- all guys who barely made it into the league -- are more highly regarded by us in this poll than Clyde Gates, a 4th-round pick.
I'm most definitely guilty of this, something about Gates doesn't wear well with me, can't put my finger on it but I just don't get the feeling he's going to make it in this league.
This, also Pruitt and Moore for special teams Though the coaching staff will have a hard time passing on Wallace for his upside... Really going to be a tough call for the staff, but special teams will be a big factor for those bottom guys. Sent from my Galaxy S III
