yes... and he's probably more NFL ready than Mr. 7/11. I shall now go off on a tangent... If Hogan is 7/11 then: Bess is AM/PM Gates is Kwik E Mart (open but not in reality) Hartline is Doctor's office (closed when there's an emergency)
Hell we could extend this not just to receivers... offensive linemen... John Jerry... HomeTown Buffet?
Bess is "what time it is" Gates is lost fed ex. Package made the wrong destination in a hurry. Hartline is Warden.
Me and a couple of south florida dolphin fans (non-rabid fans) were watching hard knocks and discussed this. Just my .02 Davone Bess - I saw philbin question something about Davone and didn't really like it. He changed his tune about him but we all know, Bess is our man. Don't know too much about his contract but I hope we resign him and get him paid. He's a great all round guy and at WR, there are few of those. Ever since Davone broke Ed Reed's ankles in a game against Baltimore, I knew he had game but he needs to learn how to get some yards after the catch. Don't know too much about the techniques of Wide Reciever but i think Bess is good talent. Clyde Gates 4241.58% - we could really use him to "take the top off the defense" lol seriously though, how great would it be to see tannehill connect with a flying gates? Brian Hartline 9190.10% the local fanbase is forgetting what hartline has done for us. he can learn more in philbin's system. he's not the fastest but catches well. again, could use more YAC... Chris Hogan 5655.45% - I honestly want to read CK's connection between his LAX skills and the Wide receiver position. This kid is in space, all the time. Like lionel messi...some ex-cornerback for Northwestern said he's playing against scrubs, everyone agreed...but there's just something about his moves that i've never seen on the dolphins before. Rishard Matthews 5150.50% Legedu Naanee 7877.23% Roberto Wallace if we carry six WR, i think these are the selections. Frankly, we suck at wideout. lots of potential there, im expecting more out of Clay, Fasano, Bush etc.
It shows how bad the Dolphins receiving corp really is, when fans seem exited at possibly picking up a receiver who might be cut from another team. The group of receivers the Dolphins now have in camp is very average and it would not surprise me in the least if by 2014, none of these receivers are still on the Dolphins roster. Bess is by far the best receiver on the team and he would only be the third receiver on most teams in the NFL. Hartline is a receiver who seems to disappear in too many games and this new coaching staff has not been able observe him at all in preseason because of his health issues. If he is still on the roster after the final cut down, it won't be because he is a quality receiver. It will be because Ireland convinced the coaches to keep him on the roster and because the rest of the receivers in camp just aren't very good.
That's ****ing silly. He is a quality receiver, and if he's on the opening day roster, that'll be the exact reason he's on it.
You have your opinion, I have mine. I happen to see Hartline as a very ordinary WR, who would be the 4th or 5th receiver on the better teams in the NFL.
That would be my list as well. I expect that Nanee makes it, but I haven't been impressed by him. IMO Hartline's injury is the biggest camp disappointment. He was a guy who showed he could get separation and make the big catch. Reviewing tape from last season he was a guy who got open consistently, but seemed to suffer from the QBs forcing it to Marshall or just getting pressured. My only knock on him is that he didn't tend to finish the play by breaking tackles, getting YAC and/or scoring enough. IMO he could be a poor man's Jordy Nelson. I see him as a good to very good #2 if healthy. I think Bess is an okay #2 and a very good #3. I think the other four on my list have the "potential" to develop into good - to very good #2s. Realistically though the best we could hope for is that one or two actually reach that potential. With a healthy Hartline, I think we'd be fine going through this season and looking to add a guy with #1 potential next year. I did like how Matthews finished that TD the other day. That was something he showed in college. It would be nice if it clicked for him quickly in the pros. Without a healthy Hartline, we're left hoping/praying for accelerated development from the young guys.
Bess and Hartline are surely locks. After that I have Naanee, Matthews, Pruitt, and Wallace. I'd love Gates to make it but at the he's going to need to step it up real quick to do so.
Im just shocked people are still convinced that Wallace will make this team. I really do not see any way that Moore, Wallace or Cunningham make this 53 man roster. I have - Bess Hartline Naanee Fuller Matthews Pruitt I'm really torn between Matthews and Hogan. Hogan just doesn't seem to be getting the reps that you'd expect of a guy to make the team. Fuller has a clear advantage considering his history with Tannehill and there being a slim margin between himself and the others, but if it were a fair competition Pruitt and Matthews would go over Fuller every single time
I really want Matthews on the squad. Not only did he show some good receiving skills the other night, but he has played well on special teams in a number of roles.
How many of you think Hartline will be on the roster if still injured, which at this point it looks like he will not get into a preseason game and it is anybody's guess when he will practice? You have to do some work The Dolphins made a mistake by not putting him on the PUP before camp. Now it is carry an injured player or put him on IR. What I am not saying is that he should be cut at all. I just wonder how serious the injury is.
Right, it's a very difficult thing. The coaching staff has barely seen this guy on the field if you go back and look at minicamp with the whole appendectomy thing. The calf injury goes back to June 20th. I do think the staff dropped the ball here (perhaps a poor use of words considering our receiver discussion here). He should have absolutely started the camp on PUP. Makes me think he has an achilles tendon situation... Next to Bess, he's the only other receiver that has shown up consistently in the past. But I've always maintained that he's not a fit for this offense. He just doesn't have the run after the catch ability that you need. So if not a serious injury, I'm thinking a trade is in the works... Unless you already have a trade suitor in the fold, I don't understand if he's remotely healthy why he wouldn't be on the field to show people he's healthy.
Something is definitely amiss with Hartline, more than has been revealed. Two months for a calf strain, one of which there was no organized physical activity at all? Doesn't make sense. I wouldn't count on the guy at all for this year.
Got a link/citation for the June 20th date? I don't recall anything wrong before the 1st practice other than the appendectomy.
got a link for that? I thought it was in place... but perhaps I only saw the owner's version of it. EDIT: yeah, you're right... http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8...s-rule-changes-injured-reserve-trade-deadline ****ing NFLPA... lets wait until Aug 22nd to vote on something that the owner's approved back in May. Unbelievable that they haven't ruined this game yet. The trade deadline extension to week 8 also wasn't approved. Man the NFLPA is consistently inconsistent.
JW, Patrick Turner is getting major reps with the jets..I wouldn't swap Hogan for him. Bess..Hartline..Pruitt..Hogan..Matthews..Fuller. If you put Hartline on the half season DL, BJ/gates takes the spot. I wouldn't cut any of the receivers first, I'd let them play it out til after the fourth game, and a healthy dose of watching film.
From my ESPN link: Maybe they'll remove the link to change in season practice rules and just put the two aforementioned changes in.
I thought there was a new rule saying that there will be an 8 game injured reserve?.. I know I heard that stitch?
I have no problem with the Dolphins going with the young receivers on the roster at this time, because unfortunately that is all they have to work with. Perhaps one or two of them will turn out to be decent receivers, but looking at the position right now, they do seem to have one of the weakest receiving corps in the entire NFL. I am just not as high on Hartline as some people on here are. I have always seen him as a 4 or 5 receiver for a good NFL team. The fact that some individuals feel he is the best WR on the Dolphins roster clearly shows how little dept this unit really has.
