His disciple in NE is doing ok though. Belichick's disciples failed just as much. Isn't Pioli as much of a Belichick disciple as Parcells? Interesting take on that.

Difference is Belicheck caught up with the times; he adjusted his playcalling. He's also become more of a offensive type coach than defensive, even though he was always known for his defense.

 

They did, but just like the Phins in 2008, they had played 13 teams that did not have a winning season...

and just like the Phins in the 2008 PS... they met the Ravens who obliterated them in the PS...

 

This "proud franchise" was a disaster when he got here. He took a disaster and moved it to mediocrity. The issue is everyone has is they feel like the jilted bride because he didn't stay to take them to the next level.

I love how ESPN talking heads love to ask him question after question about Tony Romo, but I haven't once heard them ask a question about the abortion of a team he left behind in Miami.

 

coaching and legacies are as much about luck (pardon the pun) as it is anything else.

Parcells would have never won a championship without one of the best LBs in the history of the game on his defense; conversely - do we think the PATSIES would have won ANY SBs without Brady at QB.

You can claim to be a great coach .... but great players (in a handful of positions) dictate your success or failure on the field.

I have always and continue to be a Henne supporter - as i believe the kid got a raw deal here ... but it is what it is, he will go on and be successful somewhere else. And while i won't ever subscribe to a 'suck for Luck' campaign .... it seems our 'luck' seems to be pointing that way with Henne out for the year, players playing like its a lost year, and our overall coaching is just plain terrible. IF this kid is HALF as good as he is made out to be ... he would end up being at least the 2d best ever PHIN QB.

Lastly, if our man Long is going to need surgery on his shoulder -- he might as well as do it now to be 100% next year. There is no sense in him playing another down this year (unless its a tenure thing to get credit for the year .... which i think is selfish). Might as well as use IR to its fullest and let some young players get some experience so the FO can make some informed decisions for next year.

I lost respect for Parcells when he quit that was what Saban and Jimmy Johnson both did. althought Jimmy had more talent when he arrived at least on offense so I understand that Bill Parcells had empty shelves . the wost part of the Parcell's era is that he brought Dan Henning and that is why i disliked Parcells .final note both Jimmy and Parcells were too conservative on offense and their egos messed things up for us. Am I wrong ?

Bill Parcells quit after 2 and a half years of the operation, and left us with a lame duck front office situation, a healthy losing streak, and a very angry fanbase...he's a scam, and a wuss of a man.

If our movement upward toward mediocrity was something Parcells had done, the effect would have been lasting (for example the staff & players he left us with continue to take us upward). Instead we draft guys like Pat White (and Turner, Merling, Misi, Jerry), trade away guys like Wes Welker, let guys like Ricky & Ronnie go without clear replacements, & pick up Cowboys free-agent rejects. Other than Jake Long (safest pick in a draft ever), what starting-level NFL talent has Parcells left us with from his drafts? What front-office personnel did he put in place that is so good at his job we won't fire him after this year? You might find one or two examples - but that's the point. You have to look to find them. (Especially the 2010 draft - yikes!) To give credit where it's due: Hartline is probably the best player at his position they've drafted that wasn't a lineman.

I think what the KC & Miami situations highlight is the fact that Parcells gets a lot of credit that Belichick probably deserves. One enjoyed success without the other, and not vice versa.

 

Didn't care for Jason when I lived in KC and I still don't. Haven't read this piece but I'd be surprised if he didn't put a racial spin in it some place ... meh

He spins Pioli into being a parcells disciple despite his first pro experience being under Bill Belichick. Following Bill to the NYJ under Parcells. Then following him again to NE and staying with him. Did he go to Dallas with Parcells? NO.

Other than 3 years Pioli has had no other professional experience with Parcells yet this whole article is based on the premise that Pioli is a Parcells disciple. Seriously? Yes he's Bill's son in law. That's about it as far as I can tell.

You are correct. With the draft and free agency selections of Parcells hand picked GM, Ireland, the Dolphins have gone from one disaster to the next disaster. It is time that Ross admits that the Parcells experiment was a complete failure and he gets rid of the men Parcells selected to run this organization. The sooner Ireland and Sparano are sent on their way, the sooner the Dolphins can get on with actually rebuilding the franchise.

I feel bad for Ross, he inherited all of Parcells moves when he took over, and had to deal with the scam of Parcells.

 

I hated the Parcells move. I thought he was scum before, and scum with what he did to Atlanta before signing with us. Then everyone started fawning over him "the parcells way, that's not a parcells guy, that wouldn't fly with parcells."

So I was never on the Parcells wagon. Glad to see him gone, and wait for Sparano to follow. Ireland ... I'll withhold judgment for a bit. As long as his eye for talent is good, I don't care if my GM is an arse, look at AJ in San Diego.

That said, I still think Whitlock reached around for this story. It's very weak.
