Well depends on where were picking if we keep winning we might be picking outside the top 10 and most likely missing out on Blackmon and Richardson.
We're not sucking for anybody right now; we're trying to win games. Where ever we draft is where we draft. I'd rather focus on winning and then subsequently hit on an entire draft rather than losing and hoping for a miracle QB. Pouncey, Thomas, Clay, and Gates are starting to pay off. Another solid draft like that and there's nowhere we can go but up.
Gates isn't contributing much, but IMO he's flashed enough to show that he has the talent and ability to be something. He's just gonna take some time, which is expected. It could take another year or 2 before we see a true payoff from him, but the potential is there.
I know it seems that way, but that's not true TBH. We just put up 35 points against Buffalo with our backup QB after 10 weeks into a new offense. Plus much of our team is still ascending to their fullest potential while few are descending. IMO we need to continue getting more athletic, faster, and more physical. We need to continue adding some more play makers. If we can do that, IMO we can win while we develop a rookie QB.
What I'd like to know is how much influence Parcells had on past drafts b/c 2011 was very much different in approach compared to this regime's first 3. "If" Ireland was finally able to do things his way without Tuna's grubby fingers all over it, then he might be worth keeping around in some fashion b/c IMO Jeff did a heck of a job with the few picks we had, including having the balls to move up for Thomas despite not having many picks. And let's not forget Jimmy Wilson.
Do we have all our 7 picks in this coming draft....or did we trade one for Bush??? Its conditional I think...wonder what round based on his production.
All I remember is Amaya. I don't recall reading what rough draft pick accompanied it. I couldn't imagine higher than a 4th.
Its conditional....dont know the details of what has to happen and what is the WORSE CASE scenario for the round we traded away.
i think getting blackmon or kalil would do more to help this team then getting landry jones. with kalil we would have a monster ol unit finally and insurance if long ever got injured. with blackmon we would have a bona fide playmaker to pair with brandon or to replace brandon if he continues to flake on us
I agree regarding Landry. IMO, for every Peyton Manning there are 50 Matt Schaubs whose future hinges greatly on the personnel & coaching around him. In the right environment, he thrives; in the wrong one, he washes out. That's how I see Landry Jones; even if we draft him, he's still a QB you have to appropriately build a team around. After all, elite offensive talent made Terry Bradshaw, Troy Aikman, and Jim Kelly, HOF QBs, while the lack of talent prevented Archie Manning, did it not? I wouldn't turn down a franchise potential QB if we have the chance, but I don't think the team is doomed if we end up with an All-Pro caliber impact player or 2.
Now here's the other question I'd ask. If we addressed the line in free agency and went defense with the top two picks could you potentially be looking at a truly elite defense something on a level we haven't seen in Miami since the 1970s. How would a draft of say: 1- Upshaw ROLB/RE 2- Lester FS Do for you guys. The team has the potential to field a defense on another level that can flat out change games by itself. I think that's something worth looking at if the franchise QB option isn't there.
i think everything is worth looking at. the qbs after barkley and luck are projects that will take years to develop. why bother spending a first on them when we can draft guys to help us now
Depends where you are. Oh by the way for all the pining on the OL and DL picks, Odrick looks like an excellent DT/DE and Pouncey is excellent as well. I can't complain about either of these guys.
I think that's definitely something to consider, Jaj. IMO it's second nature for most people to first look to improve the offense side of the ball b/c that's where the points are scored; however, like you allude, we're in the rare position to build an elite defense, and IMO we're in a better position to build an elite defense than elite offense. I've done a lot of thinking lately about focusing this draft on defense while looking to pad the Oline through FA like you mentioned. Personally, I'd really like to see this team take on a certain type of identity, one related to both intensity and athletic & physically dominating play that instills confidence in the entire team and that the entire team can feed off of. I think our defense is close to accomplishing that, so I'd hate to see us bypass this opportunity. IMO we're almost at the point where we have enough offensive talent to where Moore or Henne could play well with an elite defense and great coaching behind them. What was Houston's 2010 record with Schaub and the best WR & best RB in the game? Call me crazy, but I'll take an elite defense, especially with Brady in our division, as the Jets have proven you don't need a world beater at QB to beat them. Another pass rusher and playmaking DB would certainly help take us to that elite status, and if either represent BPA, I'd have a hard time passing them up.
It's very hard to pass up on talents like: - Trent Richardson - David DeCastro - Morris Claiborne - Justin Blackmon As much grief as we got for the Pouncey pick, I wouldn't be scared to draft a right guard in David DeCastro. I have not seen a better RG prospect since Hutchinson. He's that good. He is an absolutely fantastic guard who simply has all the phases of the game. If you told me that I could draft a Hall-of-Fame player on the OL I'm not going to sit there and just say well no I won't look at him because he's just a guard. It's the same with Trent Richardson. You're looking at a potential Hall-of-Fame RB, one of the great ones. I know the world wants a quarterback and this or that, but if my favorite guy is not there, **** ya I'll take an elite player. You don't think Larry Little was huge for Miami. Larry Allen was exceptional for Dallas for years. Look at what that running game in Houston has done for Matt Schaub. They have immense huge holes in that line for Foster to run through. Look at Dallas for years they could pound the rock silly into teams because they were just that good. Passing on that for Landry Jones... Man that would suck... Looking at Trent Richardson. ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME? He has that kind of power, instincts, and deep speed. He has little wear and tear, he's 21 and he can carry the rock, pass block, and catch passes? Teams will have to game-plan for this guy for eight-nine years.
agree on all aspects. I love DeCastro, especially in our offense next to Pouncey. I'd also love me some Claiborne or Kirkpatrick, even if it meant moving Kirk to FS or Sean Smith to the bench. We'd definitely have some versatility to our secondary, no? If we end up in the 9-14 range, I like the potential available players: the ones you listed plus Kirkpatrick, Tannehill, Griffin, Floyd, Jeffery. Call me nuts, but if Tannehill or RG3 were off the board, I'd be excited to see Claiborne or Kirkpatrick followed by DE Brandon Jenkins (even if he requires a slight trade up) or Bruce Irvin. I think we could see 5 QBs legitimately taken in the top 10-14.
When Christian Ponder goes 12 that's very possible. Claiborne is just a top CB ready to be picked. Kirkpatrick I'm not sure on but he could make a heck of a FS that's for sure, perhaps a CB too. It's not like the Ravens are suffering for picking a stud player EVERY single year outside of Flacco. They just hit on Torrey Smith it seems. If Miami hits on a fifth straight first round pick that'll be something that not even Shula did since probably the 1970s. There's so many options this year, perhaps including signing Ben Grubbs and drafting Mike Adams depending on where the team is in the draft: LT- Long, LG- Grubbs, C- Pouncey, RG- Incognito, RT- Adams Flat out dominant.
