Assuming all of the guys in the poll are still on the board at 12, who would you take? This is also all assuming we don't make another significant move before our pick via trade. I just want to get an idea of what a majority of the board feels. Feel free to give your reasons and to pick someone who isn't listed if you'd like.
Dez Bryant. IMO the most talented of the listed players, and he plays a huge position of need. Some character concerns, but overblown in my opinion. This is a guy who has the ability to take an offense to a different level. The perfect weapon for a developing Chad Henne.
Dan Williams. This FO cares deeply about the trenches. I'm not even ruling out Mike Iupati, as it just seems like a move we'd make. everyone close to Bryant seems to say he's uncoachable and lazy.
I believe that this team will go defense at #12 overall. This is for a number of reasons. The defense gave up tons of points last year, leading to the dismissal of Paul Pasqualoni at the end of the season. We’ve brought in Mike Nolan, and my gut instinct is that we’ll get him a playmaker, especially with the success he had with Dumerville last season. I don’t think that points to a FS or a NT, honestly. I’ve been clamoring for an OLB for the last 2 years, and I believe this is the year I’ll finally get my wish. I’m not going to be stupid enough to mock who we will get, but guys like Jason Paul-Pierre, Derrick Morgan, Brandon Graham, Jerry Hughes etc., are my favorites for the pick here. If you twist my arm and make me pick just one, I’m going to go with JPP, mainly because he’s an athletic freak and has more upside (arguably) than any of the other guys I’ve listed here. Lots of folks want Dez Bryant, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if he is on the board when we pick.
brandon graham has a great motor, great character, and is a pass rushing monster. all of these are things the big 3 look for. i know its a reach at 12 but i think he is the best olb fit for the phins.
I picked other because I would love for them to trade back and get another pick or two and still get a quality first rounder. I wouldn't be disappointed with Bryant or one of the other defensive stars but we could sure use more first day picks. I just think we are in a good position at 12 this year especially if a couple of the big names slide down to our pick.
This comes down to Dez Bryant VS Earl Thomas for me. Which ultimately boils down to WR vs FS. To me, the dropoff at safety this year is less than at WR between round 1 and 2. But let's just say that we go OLB in round 2, and take the remaining WR/FS in round 3. That gives us two options. Option 1: FS, OLB, WR Option 2: WR, OLB, FS I would take option 2, and hope Major Wright is still there in round 3. But I can see the Dolphins taking option 1, and then never addressing WR at all.
Earl Thomas for me. We had just about the same recievers and went 11-5. The FS position is one of the most important on the field and we need a great one. Look how great safeties around the league change games. Thomas does not issues like Bryant does either. I also think we can get a good WR in rd 3 (Decker, Cooper, Ford, Gilyard, and others). I would be very happy with either.
I look at it this way...Our talent at receiver is much better than our talent at FS. For the most part, all of our receivers made big plays last season. Whether it was Bess, Hartline, Camarillo and even Ginn, they had there moments where we needed them to make plays and they came through. Now let's look at FS. How many times did our FS get burned, fail to make a play on the ball, fail to come away with a turnover, or miss tackles? Quite a bit. actually, a lot. That's why Wilson was cut. And that's why I want Earl Thomas. He can cover, can make plays on the ball and create turnovers. He's a ball hawk. Plus, a guy who can make the big hit.
Large turnout in Austin for Texas Pro Day AUSTIN, Texas — Earl Thomas was already in good standing with NFL scouts with an impressive combine last month. After his performance at Texas’ pro day on Wednesday, he outdid himself — and every other prospect the Longhorns had on display. Thomas (5-10 5/8, 202) ran a blazing 4.37-second 40-yard dash, which would have tied for the third-fastest time at the combine, and would have been the best time by .08 seconds among all defensive backs. Thomas, an accomplished pianist who also plays the organ, saxophone and drums, has an interesting back story. He left school after his sophomore year (he was a redshirt sophomore last year), but coach Mack Brown explained to me that Thomas left early because his home in Orange, Texas, was devastated by Hurricane Rita in 2005, forcing his family to live in a hotel for a year.
Picked other, I'd rather use the pick for Marshall than to use it on Dez, being an uncapped year they can frontload the contract to help deal with the financial ramifications and we have a guranteed playmaker on the field. If they won't pickup Marshall then i'd rather see them get Bryant with the 12. Problem is it seems obvious at this point the FO is interested in neither of them and will go defense, if that's the case i'd like to see Earl Thomas rather than a OLB because we could really use the turnover machine.
Defense, Defense, Defense, its a simple decision after watching this team last year. Someone to get to the QB
I'll take Bryant. He might be a knucklehead, but I'd rather he be our knucklehead than someone else's. I have a feeling he'd be more of a problem for the Bills, Pats and Jets than he would be for us. If you know what I'm sayin', and I think you do.
Derrick Morgan. he's the best all around OLB prospect in the draft. he's very good at all aspects, has a variety of moves and strength. I believe he has the quickness to be a successful OLB, where some do not. well see
The top three probably won't be there. It's not this regimes' MO to draft a NT as high as #12, and I like Jerry Hughes over Brandon Graham at OLB, but wouldn't be unhappy with either. I still see OLB as not only our biggest need, but probably will be the BPA at #12. Of course, the argument is the depth at OLB, but hey, we need more than one anyway. The troika could go OLB (Graham, Hughes, Morgan perhaps), NT (Williams, Odrick), FS (probably only Thomas has a shot at being available for us. Berry will certainly be gone and there just isn't anyone else worthy), WR (Bryant, probably the only worthy of the 12 pick) or TE (Gresham is about the only one, but 12 could be a reach for him). If I had to wager a guess, I'd say that we go all D on the first three rounds this draft...
Voted for Graham but would not mind E Thomas. I think it would be harder to fill OLB position then FS later in the draft.
trade down and get Kindle .... i like most others really want an OLB, an OLB that can play THIS year ... if we must pick at 12, then take Morgan. i will say that Thomas is trying to make it a difficult decision ...
I knew this is who you would say. If we go defense then this is who I hope for. Right now, though I'm on the TE bandwagon
Sergio kindle Any Guy who can pancake a 300+ pound tackle is a Monster in my Eyes and will be a great addition to our new and improved defense next year Benn in 2nd Round anybody?
Two things I get from this poll; A LOT of people want Dez Brant (and are afraid to say so, for some reason) and people are gonna be pissed when we draft Dan Williams (techincally that was three things)
1. Ndamukong Suh 2. Gerald McCoy 3. Eric Berry 4. Dez Bryant 5. Derrick Morgan 6. Earl Thomas 7. Rolando McClain 8. Dan Williams 9. Jason Pierre-Paul 10. Brandon Graham 11. CJ Spiller 12. Jerry Hughes 13. Jared Odrick 14. Everson Griffin 15. Jermaine Gresham
Dez Bryant for Henne's sake. Throw in Dorin Dickerson, and we have one of the best offenses in the NFL.
If I'm GM its Jerry Hughes. I predict it will be Sergio Kindle however. More of the prototype body and his constant hustle will endear him to our front office
Morgan is a 4-3 DE honestly i dont see him transitioning real well to OLB he said he would be willing to try but is way more comfortable with his hand on the ground. he plays stiff sometimes and whiffs here and there. To play OLB he would have to become way more disciplined. Kind of the opposite of Marco Coleman who played LB at GT and ended up being a pretty nice DE in the 4-3 for the Dolphins
Kindle has a lanky build though. I like Graham's center of gravity he gets low on blocks and can stunt inside and uses his hands well. the guy doesn't stop. you could move him around and he would disrupt. at OLB he would be a beast all day long Still reminds me of Lamar Woodley
