It was a very interesting day for us, while I was distracted gambling on horses and boxers we filled a lot of needs and had a couple of nice players fall to us. Jay Ajayi seems like the obvious choice, 2nd round talent that can be the perfect compliment to Lamar Miller that Joe Philbin always thought Daniel Thomas could be for some reason. But I am much more excited about Tony Lippett. I was watching some of his highlights and this guy has toughness and physicality that our secondary has always lacked. You can't help but get excited about the Richard Sherman comparison although I don't know if our current regime of coaches will be able to help make that same transition that Sherm did. Even as a receiver he seems promising and always seems to pick up a tough YAC. Who is your favorite day 3 Pick?
I love Ajayi and Lippett too. I like Thompson the most. I really dislike Bobby McCain and I'm lukewarm on Jamil Douglas.
Bobby McCain might just be our best acquisition of this draft, unless we some how land La'el Collins.
Lippett is the most intriguing prospect to me, but I think Ajayi is the best value especially if his knee holds up.
Douglas, for nothing else that he has the potential to hugely upgrade the LG position and protect Tannehill against the monster Dlines we'll be facing
Jamil Douglas..... at least it was a scientific wild-@$$ swing at filling the gaping hole in the offensive line (or at least one of the two!) They're laying might thin hopes on a pair of deueces!
Douglas has incredible natural strength (405 pound power clean) and has the athleticism to be a key performer in a ZBS. If every team needed that skillset out of an interior lineman, Im guessing he wouldve gone earlier. Either way, he appears to be a good get in round four. Im hoping he starts on day one and keeps the job all season long.
Lippett.. then Ajayi... I mostly like Lippett as a receiver though. He always played kind of like a Plaxico Burress.
McCain easily for me. He's that instinctive ball hawk DB with great return skills that can turn your D into a a scoring threat. He also has the versatility of being a kick returner as well. The only arguable knock on him is size and that shouldn't be a knock for anyone who's a fan of Grimes. I think the only reason he was available so late was b/c the league is looking for the next Richard Sherman so they're overly focused on big CBs and as a result are bypassing many good CBs. Ajayi or Douglas would be next. I don't see either as potentially elite, but they're both good players. I don't know much about Thompson or Lippet beyond what I've read so I don't have my own opinion on them. Some of what I've read is intriguing so who knows? Maybe one of those will become a fav of mine?
Agree, Raf... love this kid and pulling for him. His height and some knee issues hurt his stock. Nothing not to love about him though. He turned down bigger programs to play at Memphis and has already completed his Bachelors in Sports Mgt. Played perimeter and slot and doesn't shy away from tackles. Fantastic returner as well. A film junkie and vocal leader. His coaches claimed they had to run him out of the film room. McCain stood out at the East-West Shrine practices and game with his play. He consistently jumped routes in man coverage. He also spent the pre-draft period working out alongside Devante Parker.
Bobby McCain for me, and its not even close. Ajayi may be the one with an immediate impact, but I doubt he has a long enough career to say he was the best day 3 pick. All of our other picks besides McCain and Ajayi are projects.
