what did you have in mind? As I said earlier, my goal is to keep everything roughly the same. But I'm not opposed to trying something new as long as the competitive balance remains intact. haha, Roger Goodell would have loved that last part. The biggest challenge is to keep it interesting until after the "real" NFL draft in early May. We can't close this out (with voting) until after that. But we need to start free agency before the "real" NFL starts theirs, March 11th IIRC. I want you guys to be tested on both of those fundamental tasks of being a GM. I don't want you to be able to "cheat" and look at the "real" NFL free agency and say, "I need to go after this guy too because he's getting paid." So I'm thinking of pushing the start date of free agency to around March 1st... and then trades can be announced just before that (like a few days). If I give you too much time to make trades, free agency is just a spending spree where every team has a crap load of cap room. So the trading forum won't open to the GM's until the official start of the trading period. I can't stop you from PM'ing and working behind the scenes though. Last year, the trade window was open on Feb 4th. But the FA window was more than a month later. That's way too much time to clear out your roster. Those two need to be much closer together IMO. I understand everyone wants to get going. But I think patience will be rewarded with a better experience. Also, I've started working on team rosters and free agent lists (already have free agents done). The longer I push stuff back, the more work I'm going to need to do in keeping these lists accurate. There will be a roster freeze date whereas anything that happens in the NFL has no impact on your beginning roster, just like usual. There is one thing I'm looking at with regards to free agency that will hopefully help you and make things a little more realistic as well. All I'm saying for now.
For free agency are you thinking of doing the same process? 5 active bids and 48 hours to sign? My only concern is if you have free agency and trading going on similtanueously it will be hectic for a month and then die off until the draft, where as in the past trading and free agency was broken up and lasted a full 2 months or so. Also what about cut players free agency? Would they just be mixed in with regular free agents?
it was 24 hours last year, and five bids. It definitely won't be shorter than that. The 48 hour thing can be confusing to people. But it does make free agency longer. Not going to say what I'm thinking of doing. You've raised a good point about cut players. Nothing is set in stone yet. I'll consider any and all feedback with respect to scheduling and the like. Think of it as the winter owner meetings But there won't be a vote
I am open to trying a new format, seems every year we make a slight improvement. I'm just thinking if we open FA and trading near the same time it won't give people time to get their roster in shape to know which positions they need. Maybe we don't need to have trading open for a month before FA but at least a week or 2. Also people might need time to figure out if they need to franchise a player or not.
I like the time given too dissect your roster before anything else distracts you, signing up for your teams message boards is another great way to get a feel on the back end of their roster. Doing your homework thoroughly makes for a great season IMO.
Also I would perhaps attach this thread to the draft forum, normally the guys in their are good candidates for GMs IMO
Now I remember why I didn't put the Browns at the top. Go figure...........the only time folks WANT the Browns ;p
Going to give returning GM's and ones that have been monitoring this for the last couple of weeks a little time before I start going global. Like a day
Didnt one of our fine members offer a year in club for the winner? That's a solid selling point and a heck of a gesture aswell. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Nope. Prize is for the feud of the year. 1 year club level membership or $25 gift certificate to NFL Shop (1 per side of the feud).
Fair enough I'll just pound Phinsational more than normal. Wait, huh??? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
It's not like they have 2 1st rounders, a ton of cap space, and a solid core of talent already established....actually randomize ng these bastards also may be a solid idea.
It appears that way... but it's early. People can always amend their lists up until the league is filled just post a new list.
Just make a scavenger hunt type ordeal out of it.... like, first person to post a picture of a cartoon ***** in the mains gets their first choice. Or, first person to send 55 Private Messages to GiK.
Im just saying... You're a NOD now. Use it effectively to ruin peoples lives and keep them plastered to this website indiscriminately ignoring reality and avoiding sun light. If I was you, I would actually draw this thing out, and not start it until AFTER the real NFL free agency and draft... and say "You know what **** you, Rule 1. You cant associate any off season moves with reality... choose a different player"
Or you could add a new post with a new list without editing your original post... no matter I have it documented.
yes, but it's okay.. in future don't ever do that again you should have stuck with the Bengals at #2... someone will want the Rams eventually at #1
So is it first come first serve for teams (except the Dolphins). As in, if you put a team #1 before anyone else you get them? Or will it be decided later?
