Last year one of our big weaknesses on defense was covering the tight end. Despite our defense looking absolutely amazing through 8 quarters of football, that was a problem last week as well, as Shiancoe (sp?) got us for a couple of big plays. Dustin Keller is set to have a breakout season and I'm sure Mark Sanchez will look to him a lot Sunday night.
My question is, can we do a better job against Keller than we did against Shiancoe? Who will be tasked to keep him in check?

Dansby.

Smith

I could see Sean Smith drawing duty. He matched up well against Shiancoe last week, and limited him to one catch when matched up. Smith has the height and athleticism to run with the TEs down the field.

I think we will be able to limit Keller with either Dansby and/or Smith. My main concern is LT catching out of the backfield.
-
bell, dansby, smith depending on whats called
-
That said, our team speed on Defense is amazing, this won't be Thurman Thomas taking screens 80 yds for Td's, in fact historically LT has a 3.1 ypa against the phins. -
Bell will give him most of his yards but no big plays. Dansby IMO has the best chance of shutting him down consistently, and Smith is the best matchup for long yardage situations.
My opinions. -
A better question may be who will Keller be asked to block this week. This defense forces offenses to use one of the secondary receivers to act as a blocker. It may be John Conner who draws that assignment, but if it were me wherever Keller lined up, I'd make sure there would be someone coming off the edge.
The Jets can't have him out in patterns every time.FinFan_Est.1984 and GARDENHEAD like this. -
Keller is emerging. We're going to use him A LOT this Sunday. Big game for him this week.

Keller had a touchdown in all three of our playoff games last season. He's easily Sanchez's favorite target. I do see what you're talking about when you mention LT, though. He looks pretty good thus far. -
Keller is a solid TE. Nothing more, nothing less. He get a lot of targets because Sanchez is always checking down.
-
If sanchez throws like he did last week we are going to pick his *** off. Accros the field to a coverd TE...intercepted. Jump ball to Braylon...knocked away. He didnt look that great to me it looked more lke the Pats DBs suck alot, i mean alot like more than, hmmm......

yeah even more than ^^^this guy -
this game really is a rinse and repeat of last week, except now we're home, and facing less talent. But a shaky qb, strong TE and RB, hurting secondary, weak wr's...last weeks gameplan should suffice.

Bell, Smith and Dansby will take turns.

already doing damage...

Seriously...WHO IS COVERING HIM? So far Smith just watched him on the first catch and was totally out of position. Bell couldn't cover him for the TD. And now he has this huge wide open catch and not one person was covering him off the snap. He had a total free release and was wide open in the field with nobody paying attention to him.
HUGE FAIL SO FAR! -
apparently absolutely nobody will cover Dustin Keller.
-
Nobody we r just gonna piss down our leg
-
Jimmy Hoffa is covering Keller.
-
Let's just hope Nolan can make some halftime adjustments and figure out how to slow Keller down.
-
The endzone is having lots of Dustin Keller tonight.
-
Plain and simple, someone needs to step up...this could turn into the theory I was describing with Kris Wilson on either Bess or Hartline opening it up for the other receiver (Bess or Hartline depending on who K.Wilson was covering).
Bess and Hartline need to step up even more regardless as I say halftime adjustments from the Jets aimed at Marshall...
Looks like Clemons is covering Keller now...
