Randy Moss's speed is still a problem for Smith however Davis and Smith stay on the same side of the field all game and don't really move

Good point. Never really thought about that.

yeah i thought thats why they drafted him, maybe oits a rookie thing but if we keep our CBs playing sides we will allow the offense to pick and choose the matchups. I prefer Vontae on the speed guys and smith on the big guys. maybe next year they will be allowed to matchup

I dont care who covers moss really, we need safety help. Have 1 safety just shadow him preventing the long ball. The second safety plays welker and faulk short like the Saints did.
And our DL had better get some pressure. The Saints DL isnt really better than ours but they had their way with the Pats all game it seemed.mbmonk likes this. -
On a similar note:
Brandon Meriweather had a brain fart that allowed the Saint's receiver to run unmolested 60 yards down the field - it was a fine example of what every coach fears from their inexperienced secondary. The blitz comes from the nickel. Meriweather could not shop for a play. It was a man on man assignment and he had a brain fart.

This ain't exactly a mystery. Check it out at 1:00 in the video. The linebackers drop to hook zones. Everyone else is man on man. It just goes to show that even though they are professionals - when you get to calling coverage after coverage, it can eventually sneak up and bite you in the butt.FaninPatsyLand, The G Man, mbmonk and 1 other person like this. -
I agree with Zod, and wrote something similar for the site.

The way to take Moss out of the game is hit him hit him good hit him often. He doesnt like contact. If he gets hit quick and knows he is going to take a good hit on ball contact like the saints game for instants he backs out and becomes stagnant his effort just goes away. So i believe it would be best for Smith to cover him and Davis be back in good shape to hit if he reaches for the ball. He has never liked aggressive hitting, one reason he would rarely go across the middle.

Could be the fact that atm Smith sucks at press coverage. And failing the press on Moss is a bad thing.
