We can probably get him for less than half of what Albert wants and we keep our picks. Martin stays on the right side for another year to develop. When McKinnie's deal is up next year we'll probably need to find another tackle again but the key difference will be that we'll have a much better idea of what Jon Martin really is and if he can play at this level after he sinks or swims in 2013. We can even take a OT in the mid rounds this year and groom him to compete for one of the tackle spots in 2014.
McKinnie is plan C or D but I think this is the best route. Gambling on Martin at LT is something I'm not comfortable with, not yet at least, he could improve, he could not. he could improve but not enough to help stabilize the line, and I'm definitely not the type to automatically assume any Ireland draft pick will develop the way we want them to lol. So given the team's heavy interest in coughing up not only a high pick but also a boatload of money for Albert, I think they feel the same way, and I can understand why the team would prefer an established veteran on that side, so would I, and even though BA will be more expensive, I'd still give up a 2nd for him rather than trade away our 1st, 2nd and maybe even another pick for one of the top 3 rookie OT's, but I don't think these have to be the only two options we consider, because McKinnie can still play.

Because he's old, and we're trying to build a team not band aid one.
In fact, this panicking and signing anyone chicken crap is why this team hasn't been to the big game in decades.Skyfire023, Ohio Fanatic and Drowning like this. -
Team has shown little interest in players his age. Not to mention thats a huge risk relying on someone his age. He also won't be very cheap.

That sort of move may still happen, but its usually something that occurs after mini camps if the team doesnt see enough from the players already on the roster. Of course McKinnie may not be available at that point, but my guess is at his age/condition he may well appreciate taking the early part of summer off and look for a job come training camp time, and that would be the time we would look to make such a signing.

I hope we sign Winston to play RT after the draft, we are not a Super Bowl contender just yet. So I see what Martin can do there first, RB's and TE will then have to help with more chip blocks.

We won't even know if we need a Tackle until after the draft...unless you know something I don'tASOT likes this. -

I played LT for the ravens and won.

My main concern is not our OL's age though, it's Tanne's. What is the worst case scenario next year? If you ask me- sophomore slump for Tanne. We can't have a line, dinosaur or not, that will up the odds on Tanne's lack of progression. While I hate it an option of this sort, if it's the better option to keep Tanne safe and growing, I'll consider it as taking it but with the vasoline. -
Because we want a good football player who fits the scheme. Being able to trust him to play more than a year is nice too.

They should actually sign three OT's.
They could sign Winston right now to a three year 10 mil contract.
They could sign McKinnie to a two year 7 mil incentive laden contract.
They could sign Winston Justice for near league minimum. Justice led the league in PBE the first six weeks of last year before he was injured.
They could draft Terron Armstead and Reid Fragel and give them a year or two to develop.
The cap room is there, the only reason the Dolphins have to have a crappy OL this year is that Ireland is stubborn and stupid.
GM's need to take what is given them just like a smart offense takes what the defense is giving. -
Somehow I don't think that would fly with any owner other than Dan Snyder. -
B/c dumb dumb, unless you use the #1 overall pick on a LT you are doomed!
Wait, what? -
Because he will still be sitting there after the draft. You play out your picks and then make your signings.
For instance if Jags go thru with their bluff about taking an OT. I have ZERO problems offering 42 and Jake Long money to 26 year old stud LT Eugene Monroe. -

Remember when some folks on here thought Colombo over Mckinnie was a good idea? :shifty:

Like it or not, the #1 need of the Dolphins right now is a quality LT who can block for Tannehill's blindside. This may not be the sexy pick, but it is the most important pick for the Dolphins in this draft. I would rather the Dolphins give up a second round pick for a proven LT, in Albert. Yet if they can't come to terms with the Chiefs, LT still is their #1 need, as far as I am concerned. I would have no problem with Ireland trading up and trying to get one of the top three LT's, if the Albert trade doesn't happen. -
