It's the same stuff Ed Reed said, and Eric Mangini said. How many critical plays has this guy had passes batted down at the line? It's enough with the whole crew. We need an offensive lobotomy. Firing Henning won't make a bit of difference as this conservative philosophy is tony's philosophy.
I know, Henne had what, 4 more passes batted down at the line of scrimmage? Who called the out route on the flea flicker?
Actually the oFfense we are seeing is neither sparano's or henning's offense of choice. They are simply calling the plays that they feel best suIt our crappy personell. Does anyone think we're calling all those max portect calls if we had matt ryan and a offensive line you could trust?
Keep in mind though Adamp, Henne can call those max protects, as was stated a couple of weeks ago by OmarK. That is a part of the reason why I said Henne is Beck with more starts as he went max protect all the time as well only we have Marshall instead of Chambers at Wr this time around.
We did have a guy running deep, as I remember seeing the safety turn and high tail it deep after the pitch back. Marshall was the secondary route and he was more open than Curtis was.
The stupid part of it all was not the route but who was running the route. Curtis was running down field while Marshall ran an out. If that is the routes you want the recievers should have been switched. Just like on the one deep shot we took it was to Curtis who has had all of what 3 days to get timing with henne? Stupid. The end of the game we need 50 or 60 yards and we are running 5 yard routes to the middle of the field that shouldn't even be a freaking option. The whole thing is screwed. We need a new QB cause checkdown Chad just isn't going to get it done. We need a new OC and possibly head coach. We need a new center and another sting guard. New young running backs with fresh legs. A good TE. So basically we are looking At an offensive overhaul. Sucks.
Exactly, Curtis ran a fly route and I seriously doubt even if it wouldve been single coverage that Capt. Checkdown wouldnt have thrown the same pass.
Well Matt Ryan wouldn't help with this line. Not defending Henne by any stretch b/c he's really not good and Matt Ryan is obviously much better (rightfully so, the guy was a top 3 pick), but what this front office has done with the interior line is an absolute joke. You pay Grove (a guy with consistent injury issues) the same as what Jason Brown signs for in St Louis. Sure enough, Grove is cut the following year due to injury issues. The guy is still not on a team to date. Smiley was a key reason this running game was so prolific the past 2 years, he gets cut due to injury issues. Bring in Incognito this year and draft Jerry. After all they have done to the interior of the line in only 3 years, you would think this line would be unstoppable. Just shows how weak the front office is in finding talent in the draft and FA along the offensive line. They had to take a future HOF LT with the 1st pick to get it right (and that was the right pick in my eyes, just saying they haven't gotten one other player right on the line).
Well, Henne doesn't hit deep throws anyway, Curtis was NCAA open and Henne missed him by what 5 yds? Anywho, I think at a minimum a veteran Qb who can start should be brought in to compete with Chad Henne next yr, and agree about rebuilding the offense, outside of the Wr Corps and Fasano and Big Jake, I am not really sure anyone else is worth keeping intact.
Because you can see his talent, he will go on a hot streak and hit 11 or 13 or something and throw the ball to 7 different players and he looks sharp as anyone in the NFL. But gaak, when he is cold, he is ice ice cold, a interception machine who muses up just the fundamentals of playing the Qb position. When he goes bad he looks like Trent Edwards, scared to make a throw, or takes the open stuff underneath that is not going anywhere, eats sacks, just terrible play.
Over the Pats last 4 or 5 games I've seen Brady connect on one deep throw. And that was underthrown to Branch, during the Bears game, when Branch was about 20 yards away from any DB. Brady has multiple opportunities each game to throw the ball deep and he rarely ever connects now that Moss is gone. And you guys expect Henne to connect the one time every other game that he gets that chance?
I'm not trying to say Henne is great on deep balls, but killing him over one missed chance is crazy to me. I watched the Steelers/Jets game after ours and there were so many missed deep passes I could only imagine what it'd be like for our fans to see Henne miss so many times. The fact is he shouldn't get killed for missing one deep pass (even if the guy is wide open). If anything, he should get killed for only trying one deep pass. But then again, do the coaches even want him to try and go deep often? I've been saying Henne and Henning are both part of the problem, but after yesterday I'm putting Sparano in there too.
Beck never played with Chambers, Chambers was traded before Beck was given the starting nod. Also, the comparison of Beck/Henne is wrong. Way wrong. Beck was complete dog****, Henne is nowhere as bad.
i disagree... playing to our personnel we wouldn't be running two TE sets so often when our backup TE is a practice squader at best... we wouldn't have our pure blocking FB running patterns on 3rd and longs... thats an offensive coordinator who is set in his ways and wants to call plays how he wants to call them regardless of our personnel... Henne's strength is NOT play action either, yet our stubborn OC loves to call PA even at the dumbest of times... someone calling to the strengths of our team would NEVER run a two TE set with our personnel, or have Polite in there on 3rd and longs...
And Ginn, who Henne did more with, as opposed to Beck, who couldn't escape the pass rush and was a fumbling machine. At least Henne, for the most part, holds onto the ball when he's sacked. Same crappy O-line too, just different names.
Sparano has been quoted as saying that he doesn't like to get involved with the play calling or make calls over the head of the OC. His culpability starts and stops there. I think Sparano is a very good coach, but like Henne he is new to his job and needs to learn from more experience. I honestly think that if we had a different OC we'd be sitting with at least 2 more wins under our belts and possibly more. And if we hadn't of gotten screwed over in the Steelers game this team would be sitting at least at 10-4.
Yeah, his 73% completion rate yesterday and his career 61% completion rate prove that, huh? Are you one of those people who also thinks Henne throws too many INT's in the red zone?
I think it's time this clown Stephen Ross takes his head out of J-Lo's *** and actually did something to help this football team.
I thought the defense last year was a huge problem. They addressed it in the off-season and they moved forward defensively. They hired a new defensive coordinator, they signed Karlos Dansby, they drafted a bunch of new LB's and they're starting to get production from the younger safeties (Reshad Jones isn't going to be a total disaster, which is nice). I'd like to offer the dudes in charge the opportunity to address the offense. It seems like they're more than a WR away, which too, is their fault for not realizing that. I don't think they should be free from ALL criticisms, but to fire them when they've shown capable of addressing a side of the ball in one off season is an over-reaction. Cowher isn't going to come in and solve the team's offensive problems, IMO, well unless he's bringing Roesthlisburger with him. I say, allow them to figure it out this off-season, see who they bring in for QB and then give them the 16 games to re-prove themselves. These dudes brought the wildcat, they know how to coach. They knew enough to move on from Jason Taylor, they know how to scout. I'm willing to give them a shot. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll get a fair chance to prove themselves without the massive presence of Parcells in the room.
Henne is not going to improve the rest of this year ... he needs the offesason to work with the WRs on timing and deep throws. The difference when he is 'hot' is that he makes a decision, steps up and throws .... when he isn't, he just stares at the receiver and 'waits' til he is open -- THAT is the tale of the 2 Chads ..... i still believe an offseason with the WRs will trend more towards the 'hot' Chad vs the other .... The other piece he HAS to work on is recognition .... right now he is so consumed with trying to read the coverage, that he doesn't even look at the line of scrimage to see what's coming. He should be scanning, and he just isn't .... Regardless, i do feel that most of this is correctable .... during this offseason with enough practice and reps .... and NOT using a 3 second horn, but recognizing what's coming at you ..... maybe once he gets beyond focusing on the S for a coverage read -- then he can progress looking at the LOS for a blitz read. I still believe this organization has done a terrible job developing him into what Henne and his skill set can be instead of what this regime wants .... he needs a new QB coach that will coach to his strengths, start fresh and to try and build him back up ... otherwise, they might as well trade him - and watch him develop into an at least above average QB on another team.
Well, not directed at anyone in particular, but the article mentioned the largest problem the dolphins offense has is: Trust, Henning doesn't trust Henne to hit anything down the field, Henne doesn't trust the Wr's, or the pass blocking and his eyes are slowly dropping from looking downfield to looking for who may hit him on his knee on the passrush.
I was vehemently against Sparano being fired after this year a few games ago. I would still like him to coach next year (with a new OC), but I am far less against his replacement now. I do hope Ireland is given another year at the very least though, just to see if he can address the offense more with this FA/draft.
That is where I am as well, only with the coming lockout, maybe Sparano should take over playcalling and have an assistant who handles the minutae on offense? And to me, Ireland has done a great job at keeping us competitive in a tough AFCE with the Jets huge checkbook, the Pats mtn of draft choices and the Bills ability to draft high in each rd. We have 6 draft picks, our #1 is probably in the mid teens, we have 4 or 5 legitimate needs on offense, Ireland is going to have find some guys from somewhere who can come in and play quickly and at a high level.
This is just an overall great post! It's refreshing to see that there are Dolphin fans around here who can think things though and rationalize. If I could give you 10 thanks for this post alone I would!
This is going to be a very interesting next month. If there is to be a change I think it happens between now and before the Super Bowl. If Ross has a brain, he will be hiring a coach, not actively coaching right now, so no need to wait until after the Super Bowl.
There's nothing wrong with the offensive line's pass blocking. It's not great, but not NEARLY as bad as the Beck OL was. Henne needs max protect for two reasons - it limits the number of receivers running routes (what's the point of 5 receivers with Henne?) and it buys him additional time to TRY to read the field.
Why did you leave out this part? So this business about Checkdown Chad? Is that an accurate tag of dismissal on a quarterback now 13-12 as an NFL starter? “Nah, he’ s a good quarterback,” Florence said. “But if he doesn’t have that trust … ” Florence, an eighth-year pro out of Tuskegee who has spent time with the Chargers and Jaguars, shook his head. “Pass coverage isn’t just [against] him throwing the ball,” he said. “They’ve got to protect.” “I think injuries to the O-line have been a big part of this,” Florence said. “He was getting hit from the blindside last week against the Jets. The head coach is an offensive line guy. So he’s going to protect him and use two-man routes if they go deep, which they did early with Curtis. They maxed it up.”
