Really a huge impact guy is Zach Miller but haven't heard a peep out of him. Why?

If you want to improve QB play good O-line (should be better this year) and a safety net TE, and Miller is young and available.

So I don't see why Miami isn't looking his way.

The one thing no one calls Fasano is a pass catching TE. Fasano is lightyears a better blocker than receiver. He's an average to solid receiver at TE.

Bo Scaife, Zach Miller, Daniel Graham, Dante Rosario, and Kevin Boss haven't been re-signed.

Scaife has to be the most overhyped TE in the NFL. He gets hyped as breakout every year and never does anything.

its just not a necessity position. Fasano isn't great but hes always been good enough. Tough to say otherwise.

Well I think Clay is being played at #2 TE mostly. Perhaps our new OC doesn't rely on as many 2 TE sets?

    Clay is the #2 guy.

Telling ya, he's going to present some problems for a defense.

    Production....

Fasano is fine to have but he's no Zach Miller.
That guy would give us a much bigger threat at the TE position.

For me he'd be the top priority for us.

You spend big money on a tight end, and you're obligated to heavily run a 2-TE set. Which is fine, but you're basically steering your offense in a direction and you're probably still not going to be as good off as running 11-personnel.

Scaife is incredible to watch play. I haven't seen him last year much, but I've seen him bail out Tennessee on several occasion. I'd take him over anyone else...

Ya but at the same time have you seen anyone talking to Miller?

Haven't heard anything out of OAK about Miller or Bush. I'm gonna assume they're giving OAK first crack to lock them up long-term (which I'd guess they're doing now).

Youre attempting to make an argument that acquiring talent will actually end up limiting the offense.
    I don't buy it, sorry.
A good staff will acquire talent and use it intelligently without allowing it to limit them.

We just made a decision that we are sinking or swimming with a young turning the corner this year or not.
We need to make sure he has the tools to be successful.
We've been in need of a top threat to attack the middle of the field for quite a while now and Zach Miller would provide that.

Limiting the offense? Is it an inefficient use of resources given the current roster?

Zach Miller isn't a big enough upgrade over Anthony Fasano to justify signing him and basically shelving Fasano. Therefore, you're in a situation where you need to put them both on the field. A two TE set, it's a valid base offense, but you need to consider what you are giving up to run it. In most cases, that's a fullback or #3 WR. Zach Miller probably is not going to out-produce our #3 WR in receiving, and while he himself is probably a better blocker, it's quite possible the Dolphins might be stronger running the ball out of that personnel set too.

If they were to sign an excellent LG that could be an even stronger addition. With Incognito at RG, Pouncey at C, and a great LG the offensive line would be an efficient unit capable of a variety of running plays. I'm not sure who would be the guy now that Gallery has signed with the Seahawks.

Some decent options out there with Jacob Bell, Rich Seubert, and Brian Waters. I'd prefer Bell's athleticism over the others, but DeGuglielmo would be familiar with Seubert from his time with the Giants.

Bell's not a bad option, I'm not sure how he played last year but I remember him being a capable player, something like what you'd want out of your LG.

Addai+Bell and call it a day?

Wouldn't be mad at that. I'd consider Jalen Parmele too. A little more power, and he's been a decent kick returner.

Edit: Scratch Parmele, he's an ERFA, not an UFA.

NE runs two TEs quite a bit. The beauty of that offense is that it works well as a run or pass set as long as you have TEs that can catch. NE, one of the stated roots of Daboll's system, had two TEs that each caught for about 500 yards. A second TE can absolutely out pace a a fb and be pretty close a third WR. More importantly though is the increased effectiveness of the offense in the redzone. Now Daboll didn't use the TE much in Cleveland, but they were all crap. So we don't know if he doesn't use the TE much or just didn't have a TE worth using.

If you truly believe that Zach Miller isn't a big upgrade over Fasano, then I think you're severely overestimating Anthony or underestimating Zach
