I mean maybe in a couple weeks, right? You kind of had a snapshot of Moore and Cutler. What if we have a diamond in the rough? Worst case they can be a cheaper back up next year, a season where every dollar counts to save to try to improve the team. This team needs a spark, it needs someone to rally around.
I still think Cutler gives us the best shot at winning. However, if/when we are out of the playoff race (which some could argue we already are) I'd definitely like to see what Fales and Doughty could do.
Right now we are still in the play off race. The Bills have just swapped quarterbacks to Peterman, if they can’t halt their fall they are going to lose control of that sixth play off spot. We are in a three way tie with the Ravens and Raiders, two more inconsistent teams. If we can have a strong finish to the year we can still get past them and the Bills. It won’t be easy and personally I don’t think we will, but as long as we are in the hunt I don’t see us making a quarterback change. To be honest, I don’t see us making one if we lose our next two or three games and all but eliminate ourselves from the race. At that point we might as well stick with a struggling quarterback and continue to lose to improve draft position. With that said, I do agree that it would be nice to see what they’ve got, but I don’t think we will.
it's funny with this team, the playoffs would actually hurt us. Kind of like last year. Everyone was over-rated, some signed extensions. Lay on top of that, a lower pick. This team doesn't play well when they lose and when they win, it is barely. No game has been easy for them. They are last in offense and their defense has been shredded. Playoffs would not help us, and in this case, is a false advertising of the team
With regards to Doughty, he's currently on practice squad, so you would have to cut a guy or place someone on injured reserve to free up a spot for him on the team. It's very rare that any team would roster 4 QBs in its 53. The logistics are not good for him. As for Fales, like the others said, we are not mathematically eliminated yet, so Gase isn't going to Fales yet. But Fales should get snaps if/when the Dolphins are out of the race.
If we're 6-8 I certainly wouldn' mind. Having said that the coaches know what they have in those two. I would imagine they would get a shot to play only if there was some hope they could develop into something. Personally I like Fales more than Doughty
I disagree. Making the playoffs from this sorry state would tell us one important thing: Gase is the right coach. If we have to blow up and start over again.. and I mean with another HC, then that just means the last few years were wasted like the ones before. Making the playoffs would show us we got at least something right for once!
it would tell me that the AFC is weak and it would be smoke and mirrors for years to come as other teams are real and fix their issues. Let's not forget the major salary cap issues this team has and the salaries for players like Thomas, Pouncey and James ($22M). The team has not played well and don't deserve the playoffs
Even if you're correct and the AFC is weak it would still mean they are in the playoffs and stronger than the other "weak" teams. Being the tallest midget is better than being the shortest.
Deserve is all relative - if we have a record that gets us in ... we deserve it regardless of anything that happened. If we don't have the record, then no we didn't deserve it. Also, just being as bad as possible doesn't fix anything lol, or the Browns would be a wrecking ball by now. Then you have teams like NE, Pitt and KC who are always just reloading with maybe a "meh" season or two but never a bottom out. It's all about just finding the right guys where you are, no more no less.
I would have to disagree that making the play offs would be bad for us. There is no question that this team is boom or bust, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter how you get to the play offs, what matters is that you get there. The 2011 New York Giants and 2012 Baltimore Ravens are prime examples of teams that were not the best team in the regular season, but they got to the play offs and got the job done in the play offs. Do I expect us to make the play offs and win the Super Bowl? Nope, but making the play offs would show that we have the "right" head coach because he has managed to get the most out of this roster and get it to the post season. From there you evaluate the players that played well and deserve to be on this roster next year, and then you highlight the players that didn't play well enough and don't deserve to be on this roster next year. Fill the gaps through the draft and free agency and go from there. If this team makes it after all it's been through, that's a good thing. For me not making the play offs would actually be worse because it would leave this team in a state of flux. I don't think our front office would take it as a signal to start a full scale rebuild, I think they would prefer reloading and trying again next year. Unfortunately that puts us into 2015 and 2016 San Francisco 49ers territory. They believed that a reload with Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly would get them back into the play offs - wrong. Both of those teams sucked. It wasn't until this off season that their owner realised he needed to overhaul the entire team and front office. So I think that missing the play offs is worse because I see our front office going for a quick fix rather than committing to a rebuild, and they would likely point to Ryan Tannehill's absence as a reason for a reload rather than a rebuild. So we would likely be in a state of flux for at least next season until Ross decides to overhaul the entire team and front office. The AFC being weaker than the NFC doesn't make any difference. Some years the AFC has play off teams with better win-loss records than their NFC counterparts, in fact some years the AFC has had non-play off teams with a better win-loss record than some teams that made the play offs in the NFC. Same has happened with the NFC when they have been better in the regular season than their AFC counterparts. But the reality of this is that the performance of a conference in regular season doesn't mean anything unless a team from the "better" conference wins the Super Bowl. If the AFC is weaker than the NFC, and a team from the AFC wins the Super Bowl, what does that say about the NFC? Perhaps that the AFC has the best team in the league but the conference is still weaker, but I am pretty sure that the team that does win wouldn't care whatsoever. Same goes for us, we shouldn't care if we make the play offs in a weaker conference. What is matter is whether we get there or not, and ultimately what we do when we get there.
....though the same thing was probably said about guys like Favre and Tom "I wear maxi-pads" Brady and Warner, etc, etc, etc. I was all for it. Fales, come on down!! Fales all day mofo'ers!! ......sorry.
