He's awesome! Perfect pick, look I wanted a Quarterback, but i'm glad we passed on Haskins. I think Wilkins is a can't miss.

Good pick to bolster that Dline having an elite player at each level on defense will be a huge boost for a young team. Hopefully he also closes up the middle ala vice fork did for NE sorta.

I seriously hope we now trade some picks and move up and grab a QB either via rose trade or grab Lock

 

He is average without Lawrence and Ferrell. Draft capital at 13 for a dt is same old same old Miami. Just picked Paul Solai. When teams chipped under or inside he became Jag.

I will ecstatic if we can package our #2 and 4-6 pick for Rosen. We will have an NFL experienced young QB for a test drive and an impact defensive player immediately. If Rosen doesn’t work out you really didn’t lose much everything from her out is a crapshoot!!

 

At each level? Who is our elite LB? That is the straw that stirs the drink on defense. We needed a strong presence at that position for a while now.

 

You had an elite dt in Suh and he did not make an impact without parts around him....no difference with this jag. Lousy value. Ok player but terrible resource management.

 

Are you seriously comparing Christian Wilkins to Paul soliai? They are two completely different type and caliber of player.

Nope I am comparing the impact of a dt...whether it is Suh or Solai or Wilkins dt’s Need pieces around them and don’t carry teams.

Every position needs pieces around them. That's a weak argument.

 

An impact position...a tackle, lock down corner, or a pass rusher....Haskins, Lock, Taylor, Dillard, Baker, Ford, Sweat, Burns..... personally I trade down because there is so much compression between 13 and 30......but if forced I take the qb if I love them but I really don’t love any either so I would have gone Sweat, Dillard or Baker who is criminally under rated imho....

 

Not so ....some positions are about skills and other positions are reliant on what surrounds them...but we can agree to disagree.

 

You're not seeing the forest for the trees. The Dolphins have tons of need. DL is one of those many. Wilkins has the potential to be a pro bowl caliber player for the next decade. Sure, the Dolphins could have gone DB, LB, OL, QB.. Etc... But they would have still needed a Dlineman...

 

I have no issues with defensive line but has to be a productive pass rusher and outside at end is generally a safer pick than inside. If you watch Wilkins he is just not special other than in space....he is a great feel good, great attitude, average player. He is great in space with his hands but when Bama or anyone else chipped down or let Lawrence or Ferrell loose and actually chipped or slid don on him he did not stand out... imho he is ok just not a great player and a horrible value.

He's no anchor, but his hands and quickness, agility... Man, all are off the charts. He's a very smart, hardworking guy to boot.. Terrific value at 13.

Interior pass rush is actually more valuable in today's NFL than edge rushers. QB's can step up in the pocket and get rid of the ball quickly to avoid edge rushers, but having interior interior pass rushers penetrate into the backfield or collapse the pocket completely messes up an offense. Wilkins will give us that. I had him rated as the second best interior dlineman in the draft behind quinnen Williams. Great pick.

 

How did Suh work out....I am used to being on the wrong side of these discussions when everyone is giddy on draft day... had a dieRect exchange when I said Brian Hartline was a far better prospect than Turner...when I said Charles Harris was a one trick pony...when I called Larry English or when I said Aaron Donald was a steal when everyone called him too light......we will see but I don’t see a special player... I don’t even see a player with “teen” type value......but we will see as it is only our opinion until the results are in...but I am firmly of the belief dt or 5 tech end is not a game changer no matter how good they are....see Kyle Williams, Suh etc etc etc....

 

Using Suh as an example is stupid. We also had wake one of the best edge rushers in the NFL and we still weren't able to win. Edge rushers are not necessarily more valuable than interior rushers. There was no franchise QB available at 13 and Wilkins was the best player available on the board. It's a great pick. He can play 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT, fits perfectly what we are trying to do on defense. He is good against the run, he is a good pass rushers, no injury or character concerns. He was productive in College against great competition, he's a leader, great character, great teammate, won 2 national championships.

Your argument is weak. There was no better pick available at 13. Other than trading down it was the best pick they could have made at 13.

No I just don’t see value in drafting a dt at 13....I am not real sold on any of this years qb’s so early...I would have gone with pressure player (Sweat) or an anchor tackle like Dillard which are more impactful positions when in complete rebuild mode. I don’t see tremendous can’t miss qb value at 13 either.

You're pigeonholing Wilkins as if he's a one trick pony type player. You also keep saying that a DT has no value at 13, but in the same breath claim you liked Aaron Donald when he came out, how you had a bunch of "I told you so" moments about him, actually. Yet..he's a DT and he went 13. lol..

Now, I'm not saying that Wilkins is or ever will be an Aaron Donald, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Either it's possible for a DT to be a good value or it's not.

Wilkins is a top 20 player in this draft. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone with any football knowledge say different. He is quick, agile, smart, tenacious...he fits the Dolphins defensive scheme. He was a good pick.

 

I mean, if the best DL in the game (at the time) didn't make enough of a difference for us, then I'm not sure how Wilkins could be better than that. The only difference is that Wilkins isn't getting a trillion dollars a second and we can afford to build around him...but Miami has already rejected the veteran leadership approach. My main worry is who else fills those gaps- a beast in the middle just means the opponent runs off-tackle instead of off-guard. So it's definitely not a stupid example.

 

As long as we didn't skip over a solid QB to grab a DT, I'm fine with this pick. I don't think either Haskins or Lock will be all that great in the NFL, though Haskins seems to have more upside. Either QB in the second round would be tempting, but at that point you could probably get Rosen.
