We definately need a reciever and Jerry has been slowed down last year with his injury, but after being cut, what could it hurt to bring him in for a workout? If he can get healthy and come at a reasonable price, why not, he can't be any worse than Wilford IMO.
I would have to say no thanks brother. He was labeled as having the attitude in Jacksonville, and Oakland. We need contributors who believe in the team, and not detractors.
I don't think porter would be the ideal options for this team, attitude, injury, probably looking for a bigger salary than he deserves... Not exactly what this team is built around.
Jerry Porter? Besides the fact that he liked to take the first half of the season off even when he was productive is not the kind of WR we want on this team, IMHO. He might have some talent but he lacks the work ethic to go with it.
I'm going to go against the grain and say yes. He has a lot of talent, I think we can get him cheap enough that if he does become a distraction we can cut him with minor cap repercussions. He is 6 ft 2 so his height is definitely something we could use, but having said that I don't think he's overly physical. Is he a better option than the guys we have now?
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80eb1dde&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true Porter signed a six-year, $30 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed. He also earned $1 million in salary last season, but he caught just 11 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown. Porter started the season on the physically unable to perform list following hamstring surgery and ended the season on injured reserve (groin). Teammates singled him out as a main culprit for the chemistry problems -- a label Porter first earned in Oakland.
Yeh but none of the Jax receivers was outstanding last season, and no way is anyone going to give him that kind of money - unless the Raiders take him back. I think he's worth a look, perhaps on a one year contract.
