I am indifferent about the new. Sure Ricky is a good asset but he is the only person to break my heart twice. Ronnie Brown is the real deal; I think Ronnie is a Top 5 Back in the game.. period

 

I agree 100% with your assessment of Ronnie, but until he can go a whole year without missing time due to injury then having a guy like Ricky around is a good thing!

It is a great asset to know you can carry a backup running back that is not only capable of filling in for your starter, but also of winning games by himself. In addition to that he appears to be a genuinely nice guy. I am proud to call him a Dolphin.

 

Good point. Still scratching my head that a guy could be foolish enough to state during the same press conference that 1.) He wants to be traded and 2.) He only wants to play one more year.

But back on topic. If Ronnie Brown can prove to be that every down back we think he can be, by making this statement Ricky has given himself some trade value. So even people who might not be that high on Ricky (no pun intended) should be happy with this news.

His statement about playing another four years tells me he's still on the ganga because he's high as hell if he thinks he still has that kind of productivity in him.

 

In this day and age, after you turn 30, running backs are disposable. I highly doubt the unreliable pot smoking head case will be the one to buck the trend in the league. JMO.

JT has always been and always will be looked upon as a class act.. He might have handled his situation better but at least he didn't wait until the begining of t-c to decide that he would not be playing football this season because he wanted to hump camels in the far east!

Well its sure refreshing to see that the weed jokes and puns are almost non-existent now. It got old pretty fast, too bad it carried on for freakin' three years.

 

Well I look at it like this. I still watch on occasion some of our games from 2002 when Ricky was a monster. I long for those days of having a RB and an Oline that performed. Ricky was unfortunately not enjoying the ride.
So when he says 4 more years, I ask some questions. Like how much debt is he in? Why now, all of the sudden, is he interested in playing? I understand his life has turned around, and thats so freaking awesome for anyone let alone him.
But since he's been out, his body isn't as beaten up. But can he play for 4 more years? Will he want to once the games start rolling?
All questions that can only be answered in time.

Well I understand that williams was traded to the Phins and he signed a renegotiated contract...

And I also understand that williams walked away from that same contract flicking his middle finger up at this organization, team, and most importantly us fans...

And if that isn't BAD enough the jackass continued popping us his middle finger by smoking weed and being suspended..

I was raised to believe respect and trust are earned not given to individuals who repeatadly take advantage of it. Are you one of those guys who always took back a cheating girlfriend because she promised she'd never do it again or one who learned from it and moved on without her? it tells me he has thought about where he is at in life. if he is serious and can stay healthy, he is the perfect #2 behind Ronnie and the combination of both will only help Ronnie in the long run. the reality is that, even with the time off, his body is only going to be able to do so much. four years from now as his carries seriously decline, Ronnie will be in full on peek.

 

so, if he waits 'til the day/s before TC to announce his retirement, what would you think of him then? would he be a bad guy like Ricky, or will you just write it off as the end of a great career?

 

He was so fresh and still in football shape from Canada last year, he made it all of what 6 snaps last year. One thing Ricky has proven is you never really know where his head or heart truly is and you sure as hell can't count on him.

 

I would love it if Ricky played here two more years and finished as our all time leading rusher (until Ronnie Brown surpasses him of course). That would be a great redemption story for Ricky and for us fans.

JT has been one of the most productive defensive players Miami has ever drafted while williams has been a black eye and a league wide JOKE since wanny traded for his stupid ***!

I am personally not thrilled about how JT has handled this offseason but considering the way this teams f-o has operated the past 8 years I can understand JT's frustration and his desire to wear a s-b ring..

If JT retires I wouldn't be a happy camper but I would accept his decision.

Williams on the other hand is a complete waste of talent. His choices since he came into the league are a reflection of what williams is all about,,,, HIMSELF!

i'd be naive to question why people do not trust Ricky. heck, i'd be a fool to put all my faith in him as a primary player, as Wanny, did just before he retired. but, Ricky seems to be much more relaxed and from what is coming out from him and those around him, he is very motivated to play...for what ever reason. i believe that he is more comfortable in the #2 role, there is less stress and expectation on him. if he fails, in any manner, as a #2, then the failure is not so great. but, if he fails as a primary #1, well that is a whole lot of stress.

i believe him when he says he wants to play for 4 years. i think in a support role he will excel. weather he is able to or has the desire to, i guess we'll see.

 

NOT completely different. at his retirement, Ricky was the premire RB in the league. the only questions about him was his quirky-ness in the spotlight. everything you are saying he is occured after he retired. you are perfectly able to accept that the FO from from the past 8 years has been questionable at best, but only in regards to JT. we all know that Wanny POUNDED Ricky that last year and it was clear that Wanny was going to do it again. people who are considered normal handle stress in various way, even strange ways. now we have Ricky who has been diagnosed with Social Distress Order, probably did/does not have the tools to handle stress like that. the only thing i hold against him is the manner in which he did retire, or more correctly the timing of it.

as for Ricky being all about himself, it seems to me that JT is proving to be as much or more about himself at this point. he is trying to manipulate the NFL into getting what he wants while trying to look like the Golden Boy in all this.

if you choose to accept the behavior of JT and accept that he is responding in a manner that is o.k., fine. he is a talented player that probsbly deserves a shot at a championship. if you choose to hold the manner in which Ricky has dealt with similar stress, well, o.k. as well. but don't think that the situations were so unsimilar that we can use the actions of the FO or coaches as reasonable for an excuse and then completely exclude those same actions in another.

 

I would love for Rw to be part of this team for 4 more years. That means my Rw jersey gets 4 more years of use and hopefully we get 4 more years of him being a very nice compliment to ronnie.

 

No I did not see williams as a "premire" rb in this league maybe you did but there were always questions about williams. Why do you think that the Saints drafted McAllister? It wasn't because they wanted to see a double headed monster in both he and williams.. The Saints knew williams was a head case and wasn't long for this league. I also believe that they were suspicious of williams drug use.. A team just doesn't place a "premire" player on the trading block without examining all the repercuscions that could follow.. Mueller and Haslett probably laughed long and hard when williams decided to retire!
Yes wanny pounded ricky that year and I will be the last Dolphins fan to ever make excuses for Wannstedt but ricky signed a renegotiated contract and he knew that he was the focal point of that years Dolphins team.. If williams had a problem about how he was being utilized then he could have voiced his concerns to the coaching staff.. Not call the team up a week before t-c was to start and tell them he was done and retiring!

And yes there has been problems with the f-o that is obvious. But to walk away the way williams did was selfish, immature, and completely uncalled for.. And there is no one to blame but the person who commited the act,,, Ricky Williams..

JT has been a Miami Dolphin for going on 13 years.. He has put up with this f-o for a hell of a longer time then williams and imo deserves a hell of a lot MORE slack than williams deserves.. Do I agree with how he has handled this off season? NO. But I understand the amont of frustration he has kept bottled up inside of himself. JT has earned the respect of many around this league.. What respect has williams earned?

As I have already addressed this I see no similarity between the two.. And cannot for the life of me see how anyone else can!

He plays a game for millions of dollars, why would we give JT any slack at all? There are no promises about winning or losing when you sign a contract. He did it on his own.

I hope Ricky plays four more years, I just wouldnt count on it.

you are absolutely correct, now that i think about it. there is absolutely no similarity between the two situations and thank you so much for helping me see the clarity now. it is so obvious..i am sorry that i did not see it before. we are talking about one player who is obviously selfish in his regards for personal gain and one who is selfless to the point of personal pain.

clearly Ricky was incapable at that time to handle the stresses in his life. he just did not have the coping mechanisms and the FO and Wanny did little to help him but literally run him into the ground. so he did the only thing he could think of. Quit. i can never forget what he did or how he did it. but i sure can forgive him and understand where he was at mentally and emotionally at the time. bad decisions but understandable.

Jt clearly deserves the loyalty of all his adoring fans. he has suffered through the poor FO and coaches just like every other player during that time and deserves all the credit for being the stand up guy and team leader he is. i mean clearly the support and direction he gave his teammates,especially last season as well as how he is helping now, attending the team functions and learning the new system while he quietly awaits the possibility of a trade. team player.:pity:

you and i see these situations differently, i'm cool with that. i forgive Ricky for what he did. i even understand why. i will never forget but hope he can make good on his word. JT to me, is showing me a side i never believed him to have. i understand his desire for a ring. i wished Marino could have won one and would have understood if he went to another team at the end, though i wouldn't have liked it. JT, in my mind, is being selfish in his actions and that i can not forgive. i'd rather not have him on the team than have him grudgingly play because he could not be traded as he wished. that could hurt this team more in the short run than help

 

So let me ask you one question - how long has JT endured mediocrity and bad decisions in comparison to williams?

Wasn't williams supposedly under a doctors care for this? If I remember correctly williams was prescribed medication but instead CHOSE to smoke weed. And he admitted this to the media. But yeah this should be blamed on Wanny as well..:shifty:

As I have stated before, that I am not thrilled with what JT has said and done this offseason.. But I understand his reasoning and to judge JT for what should be considered an abortion last season in the negative is an area that I totally disagree with!

I do not have a problem with our difference of opinion.. That is what makes this fan base strong and battle worthy..
JT has endured a lot of B-S during his career here whether you want to admit it or not. I agree with you on not liking his actions this offseason but unlike you apparently I understand why. If JT is being selfish than williams is beyond being a self centered jerk.. I also disagree in not wanting JT on this team. JT was drafted by Miami. Ricky was traded for. how many players in general have endured mediocrity? it's unfortunate, but part of the game. i assume then that you are unfamiliar with people who have these types of disorders then?

because some one is under Dr. supervision and medicated does not mean that the person is automatically "fixed". it is usually a lifetime work-in-progress as people learn to cope with themselves and how to deal with the stresses of their lives. if you do not believe me, then ask any one who suffers from any anxiety or social disorders. there are a couple here on this board.

now you are putting words in my mouth. i never said Wanny was to blame for his pot smoking. i said Wanny was responsible for his decision to run away from the situation that was causing him conflict. smoking pot was just a coping mechanism for him to deal with the continued stress, not saying i agree with his choice here.

i have never said that JT does not deserve a legitimate shot at a ring. in fact, in other threads i have said i would be ok if he just said, in public, i love Miami, but i don't think this team wins soon. i want a chance... if JT shows for any of the mandatory stuff, we aren't having this conversation.

I love the fact Ricky is talking like this because he is not known to speak like this with this much confidence and yet, composure. Meaning that the person under "Dr supervision" needs to want to be treated. We can dance around this forever but the fact's are williams was under a doctors care and being medicated. He chose to stop using his medication and become a ganga smoker.. Now you can blame this on his illness until kingdom come but if he knew that he needed his medication and stopped then the responsibility falls all on him and NO BODY ELSE!

And AGAIN no one is going to convince me that wanny was responsible for williams choice to retire. Also if williams was unhappy with how he was used in the offense he had ample time to approach wanny or ANYONE on the coaching staff to voice his concerns! He made his choice and IMO it was totally selfish and self centered..

And AGAIN I agree as far as JT's actions this offseason but turning 34, starting over with a completely new f-o and coaching staff for the 6th time, can you really find fault in him wanting out? Yes his way of handling the situation should be more professional but everyone has their breaking point.. You seem to think that williams wasn't of sound mind in making his multiple of immature decisions and deserves a chance yet AGAIN but JT is selfish and you feel he shouldn't be on this teams roster because of it..:pity:
