I like Lamar Miller at his contract better to be a lightning. I'd rather pay Maurice Jones-Drew than Chris Johnson, or just draft a bigger RB.

 

After watching that OSU game I'd be down for drafting Hyde and pairing him with Miller.

I honestly don't think our backs are the problem. Every time I see a crease, Miller hits it hard. The problem IMO has been the line making those holes. I'd just like to pick up a better red zone/short yardage back.

 

We have a good amount of our free agents, so after we do that, I'm not sure what we'd have left to sign a Chris Johnson...really just don't think we could afford a contract that size..

 

We need an inside runner. CJ isn't it.

A better fit for this team's needs would be LeGarrette Blount or Ben Tate. And we need to get blockers ahead of the RBs before worrying about the most fungible position in sports.

 

I prefer power backs like Ricky and Ronnie rather than a finesse back like Bush/Johnson but that's just me.

 

Miller, as fast as he can be, makes bad decisions off-tackle and simply put, he is too small to reliably hold on to the ball against today's run defense. Most, if not all great RBs, are power-guys, or at least capable of breaking tackles consistently and keeping fumbles to a bare minimum.

 

He's bigger than most backs at 216 (even better because at 5'10 he has great center of gravity) and has fumbled once in two seasons.

This team looks like a prime landing spot for MJD and I think he can be had for a reasonable contract. More important will be acquiring two linemen in free agency to augment another two in the draft.

 

I don't see any issues with Miller's ball security but he has very little power in his game. Miami is definitely lacking a back who can push the pile.

 

Man, just think how many more conversions this team makes this year with a Lousaka in his prime type back?

 

RB is a big problem and should be a priority this off-season...but Cj isn't the answer. I just hate the idea of putting that much FA money into high-profile offensive skill players two years in a row. That said...we do need to find a feature back in the draft, imo.

 

He's not a power back, but I would argue he has decent power for a non-power back. For what he lacks in power he makes up for in balance.

I think that CJ fits in this offense, but I don't think he's Philbin's kind of guy and don't look to see him here. Besides that, he'll definitely want more than I would pay him (in FA), than what some will...

I like the idea of MJD better, but it depends on what staff and coaching changes are made as to whether he'll want to come here...he probably wants to go to a team closer to competing for championships.....

 

I would prefer to try and get Mark Ingram from New Orleans. He is lost in the shuffle there and will be a FA in 2015 so New Orleans might want to get something for him. Plus he wouldn't break the bank at 1.3M.

 

I don't see him as being unreliable from a ball-handling perspective...we haven't seen issue from him. Acutually he's just a bit taller than MJD. The problem with him, as you said, is that he seems to not be power back and any defender getting a hand/arm or leg on him seems to bring him down. Additionally, I'm not crazy about his instincts in hitting the rigtht hole at the right time, but he is averaging 4.0 YPG behind an inferior OL, so that says something. I like more of what I see from him since Thomas has been out and he's getting more carries... But fumbling is not his issue at this point...

 

To bad we can't add Adrian Peterson and at least two good run blocking OL.

 

Chris Johnson has talent that I think can be harnessed and put him in a more productive position than he's been recently, but this team can't match scheme to linemen or backs to save their lives.

The draft has so many options at running back.. Honestly finding a good running back in the draft is like the easiest position to figure out. Malcolm Brown would be a nice pick up and be the type of combo back we need.

I would rather see the Dolphins add offensive linemen and a power back. Johnson is not the back he was a few years ago and I don't think he offers much more than Miller at this stage of his career. The Dolphins biggest need at the RB position is someone who can break tackles at the line of scrimmage and pick up the tough yards on third and short or down by the goal line.

You mentioned adding OL in general, yes. I took it further and laid out a priority list and alternative candidates to run behind the OL.

 

Walter Payton was 5'9 198 pounds soaking wet. He was very much a change of direction back with excellent instincts, intelligence,vision and more heart than anybody; but he was not a big power back.

 

I would take MJD in a heartbeat.....he would be rejuvenated on a team that is in the playoff mix, plus he gets to stay in Florida.

 

I'd rather wait for Duke Johnson to come out in a year.

It's not his size, his size is fine. Miller is pretty weak as a runner and could use some more strength. It's our blocking. It sucks. Maybe scheme. I see Andre Ellington and Bobby Rainey have a lot of success with similar/smaller size.

 

Any Toby Gerhardt love? Hasn't been used much in Minnesota and liked him coming out a few years ago. Thoughts?
