Knowing what they know now, would the Dolphins make the exact same trade for Brandon Marshall again? So what do you think? Trade for Brandon Marshall?
He had hip surgery last off season, then caught 100 balls, without even being the focus of the passing game for most of the year. Case closed for me.
Well, probably, 2 #2's and the contract seems a bit much, however Boldin went for a #3 and #4 and 28 million and is older, and is far more dinged up than Brandon Marshall, so such a trade makes sense in terms of value. 26 yr old, dominant Wr do not grow on trees, you kinda have to pay for them. And with the way it worked out, we gave up a 2011 #2 and 16 spaces in draft position to pick him up, so a trade back and a future #2? All day baby.
If we didn't make the trade for Marshall the front office would be getting bashed for not going after him. There would be continuous talk about our bad WR's. always a double edge sword situation so it seems.
If the reports are correct that it was to clean up lose bodies and is back for a full training camp then sure. He's still young and he's still a top 5 receiver in the league and that's exactly what we needed. If the reports are incorrect (and no reason to think they are) and it effects his first year or god forbid his career then no. If this is the case though who's fault is it? Bill's? Ireland? Or the doctors?
Heck yeah! Every day the fact that we have B Marsh sinks in more and more...I can't wait to see him play and I also can't wait to dismantle people with him in Madden.
Yup. Until proven otherwise I'm going to assume that the hip surgery was minor and will not effect him. We exchanged Ginn, one of the most passive receivers in the game, for Marshall, one of the most physically dominant. He has good but not great speed- but he demands double teams and produces big time, and that's what being a #1 WR really is all about. He'll lighten the load on every other offensive group- more one on ones for the skill position players, less 8/9 man fronts for the OL/RBs to deal with, and a God send for Henne. And with us recouping the 2nd rd pick given up this year for him dude only cost us a 2nd rounder next year, if you look at it that way. We absolutely needed a #1 WR to make the leap from good to great, and we got him. Great trade imo.
I don't think they'd make the same deal. They probably wouldn't have given up that second #2. Would have been something lower. And Marshall probably doesn't get quite the same deal.
Then he very well could have been playing on the Jets instead......they were right there too....Miami's contract was higher no Muck?? Anywho....yeah I do the trade, the got back a 2nd, can opt out of the contract after one year...alllll day baby!!!
You mean he had the 100 catch 1200 yard season after a major hip surgery? I want hip surgery too. That said, yeah, I'd make the trade 11 times out of 10.
from what i gather the jets were willing to send their #1 (29th overall) to the broncos but the jets couldn't put together a long term contract that would satisfy marshall. thus no offer sheet.
All i know is i am still one happy fan knowing we have a top reciever to send LoNNNG!!! Or even the fact that this man WILL BE double teamed. Either way i see PLUS yardage for our team
You might be right, be trades/FA signings in the NFL aren't always just about a player's worth, but also about outbidding other teams.
All Day Long! I am sure it was a nothing procedure and will have no effect other than to delay Henne and Marshall getting on the same page. It is very rare to get a player the caliber of Marshall in the prime of his career on the market. You have to grab them when you get the chance.
Sean Smith, Chad Henne, Phil Merling, Pat White. Thats two starters, a starter/depth and Pat White. The starters are looking like future stars at QB and CB. Not sure where you get this trend from.
I'd rather pay top 15 money to a guy who has proven he can get the job done and is in his prime (no development required -instant production), than take a gamble on an unknown *cough*Dez*cough*
I'd think the better question would be if Seattle would trade what they did for Charlie Whitehurst if they knew it would mean losing Marshall.
Yes, he's proven himself plenty of times. They also have a contract with an out in it. The fact that they didn't go after Anquan Boldin, who liked Miami and would have been cheaper[but older], shows they may have been thinking about getting Marshall knowing he was on the outs with Denver in March.
Games aren't being played today. Come September Marshall will be healthy and in all likelihood will prove to be more valuable than any player we could have taken at #12. Plus we traded down and recouped a 2nd 3 spots higher than our original. Good luck covering him this season, you'll need it.
We didn't give up the 1st regardless, but for the sake of argument I'll say that a hole was addressed via a known/tested-proven talent as opposed to a top 15 (ooh) prospect whom we may have had to shell out some serious dough for. More so in an uncapped year; no thank you, I'll take my chances with Marshall (or even Otogwe over than Earl Thomas for that matter).
People are acting like Marshall got his arm amputated. If the surgery was a major surgery, he would not be walking around at practice and on the bikes 3 weeks later. He caught some passes too I think. And he's not even limping. And even if he did get one arm amputated off, he'd still be better than Ginn.
Marshall is the savior around here now. Expectations are high so why is the Ginn comparison in the conversation. The media is waiting to pounce if Brandon doesn't produce. we all know that.
