I know my answer but I would like to know if anyone here would do that deal? DAK has proven he can play, he's also proven he can lose in big situations. Tua has proven 1 year that he can play, Both are looking for bigger deals from their franchises, but its looking more a more that both teams have some real concerns. Do you think a change of scenery would improve DAK or allow TUA to grow? (Tua obviously would benefit and it would benefit us to keep him, but if DAK would come cheaper, and he can run when needed and has a very good TD/INT ratio last few years and AVG. Just an interesting discussion to have before the draft and wondering what you guys would do? I would take DAK over TUA today if I had to have someone for the next 3 years. Reasoning is show below. NFL playoff experience, Bigger Games and won, Has consistently played in Cold weather stadiums and performed well. With out targets on Offense I think he could easily get 5K passing 42 TD a year, and Playoff Leadership Experience for probably relevant money. This is just 2023 stats, but last three years also DAK has been better in almost all categories
Nope. No disrespect to Dak. He's had to put up with as much BS from Cowboys fans as Tua has from Dolfans. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
...and we have three months before training camp. We haven't scratched the surface of thephins.com offseason insanity yet.
I think they're in the same tier of quarterback so I'm going to vote no. It would be a lateral move for both franchises assuming the hypothetical trade was Dak for Tua straight up. I don't see Dak as a better fit either.
Dak is talking about securing a $60 million bag after this season. Not good context for the question you asked.
While Dak has had to endure the never ending soap opera that is the Dallas Cowboys, he’s not demonstrated to me that he can win the big games needed. Jones tends to stick with losing quarterbacks too long.
The best you are doing is ever so slightly upgrading but at the expense of a QB who is 5 years older so it wouldn't make much sense to me.
Just playing Devils Advocate… If we were to trade Tua (and I don’t want to trade him), it would have to be for either an DEFINITIVE upgrade…or part of a rebuild in which we needed multiple draft picks for him.
As was mentioned above, Dak is 5-6 years older and about to sign a huge contract. I doubt anyone believes that Dak would come here and play any better than Tua has. And if people were willing to give up that amount of draft pick, enough to fill a rebuild, we’d be crazy to do it. Franchise QB’s are hard to find.
Next year QB class is an iffy one as well. I do think the Chargers can do the funniest thing ever though by trading Herbert for an astonishing amount of picks/players and then drafting JJ to play with Harbaugh. It won't happen, but I am rooting SO HARD for it.
I didn’t mention Dakota because I don’t believe he is an upgrade, let alone a definitive upgrade as I previously stated.
the question proposed was if neither team could come to a deal and would look to be traded. It’s kinda lateral but might be a good 2-3 stop gap.
Saying it interests me is not me saying I would actually do the trade. At first blush, it is interesting. Not sure why people act like it's crazy to think it's interesting.
If they were the same age I think it would be. I don’t really think of Dak as a “choker”. His play is nearly identical in the postseason as it is in the regular season. He’s a very good QB and ai like him. However, due to his age and the contract he will command, I’d pass. Tua does some things better, Dak does some things better. I don’t know who McD would rather have, but if they were both the same age, and McD did this hypothetical trade, I wouldn’t be angry. I’d have more of a wait and see approach because I trust McD.
Oh, so because YOU don't find it interesting means NO ONE can? Like dude, you really think about what you're writing? I mean, if McDaniel is this great coach and QB guy, why wouldn't the assumption be that he could have Dak playing better than he ever has? I think it is an interesting conversation to have. Doesn't mean that at the end I would end up dumping Tua for Dak.
Both Tua and Dak have had more than enough time to prove themselves capable of winning playoff games and making it to the Superbowl. Both have failed so it's time for both the Cowboys and Dolphins to draft QB (s) and give new players a chance to succeed.
Whew thanks! I needed a good laugh. It’s been a rough day of work on a Saturday. You could say Dak has had plenty of time, plenty of weapons and one of the better offensive lines in the league. If you think you can HONESTLY and OBJECTIVELY say the same about Tua?
For the 2022 and 2023 seasons the Dolphins roster was loaded good, especially 2023. For 2024, with a significantly depleted roster, if Tua plays on his 5th year option I am expecting a 9-8 season and fans breathing a sigh of release the team did not extend him.
